What if WoW started with 5 Factions ?

Another elucubration and wild thoughts thread !
This time, I started to imagine what would WoW be like if it started with the playable factions of Warcraft 3 instead of putting the Night elves in the Alliance and the Undead in the Horde. I then remembered that at some point in wow development, it was discussed to make demons playable. So I added a fifth faction, the Burning Legion. I must say there are debatable choices, and choices that may appear impossible, anatomically-wise (four legs, no legs races, etc) But you know, ever since the mechagnomes and their missing mog slots, I really stopped caring too much about that in my thought process.

    Vanilla
    Horde
Newly settled in Kalimdor, the Horde led by Thrall is mostly trying to sustain their needs, sometimes at the extents of neighbourly factions. The amount of work and logistic required to build this new home would make the goblins come sooner in the Horde !

Members : Orcs, Trolls, Taurens, Goblins

    Alliance
The Alliance situation would be quite close to what we got in vanilla. Except they wouldn't have been dum-dum with the blood elves and would have stepped up to help them and the high-elves.

Members : Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, High elves/Blood elves

    Night elves
Here, the Night elves would have refused to join the Alliance, on account of their divergent methods and objectives. They would still accept collaboration, but not at the expense of their duties to Nature. They then would make their own allies, trying to strengthen the bonds with the allies of the Wild.

Members : Night elves, Furbolgs, Dryads, Treants

    Forsaken (formerly Scourge)
The Forsaken would not need the help of the Horde, as Sylvanas would already move quite aggressively in order to establish her dominance over Lordaeron. Her first actions would be to rally other Scourge forces freed from the will of the Lich King and to subdue members of the cult of the damned.

Members : Undead, Banshee, Human acolytes, Nerubian

    Burning Legion
This faction is a mere fragment of the infinite armies of the Legion. After the defeat of Archimonde, the demons tried a more subtle approach, sending only few forces on Azeroth to establish local outposts and sabotage the efforts of the mortals. Nathrezim apprentices eager to demonstrate their talents are among these forces.

Members : Felguard, Imp, Succubus, Nathrezim

    Burning Crusade
The demon faction would be the one responsible for the re-opening of the Dark Portal, which would be the biggest goal of their vanilla quests. And while they would try to rally their allies in the Outlands, the Horde and the Alliance would soon follow to eradicate their presence. Meanwhile, the Forsaken send their own forces to find the secrets of the ancient death knights, and the Night elves try and solve the Illidan situation.

    Horde
The ogre clan who rallied the Horde thanks to Rexxar will ask for a request : Since the portal is opened again, they would like to find their people and rally them to the Horde once again. This expedition will lead them to the Thunderlord clan, but also to the mysterious land of Ogri'la. Here, the ogres will try to regain their ancient glory, but with wisdom as a better guide than cruelty.

    New race : Ogres

    Alliance
As the Exodar crashed into elven land, the draenei have been mistaken for eredar and responsible for a ton of ecological disasters. Because of that, the Night Elves wouldn't want anything to do with them and, granted the exiles repair their damn ship and get off with it, they'd let them live and get them in touch with the Allliance who probably wouldn’t mind counting them as allies.

    New race : Draenei

    NE
Among the fauna and flora who fell on Azeroth with the draenei, there were strange spores which dispersed all around the Azuremyst Isle and beyond. Soon, the resulting mushrooms sprooted as Sporeling who became attuned to the Emerald dream because of their growth on Azerothian soil. The Night elves quickly rounded up these Sporeling as allies in the purification of the soiled environment and used them to make contact with their Outlands counterpart.

    New race : Sporeling

    Forsaken
The mad Talon King Ikiss and his Sethekk were driven out of Outland by visions of immortality and power. Crossing the Dark Portal, they met the forsaken who were themselves looking for ancient knowledge from the old Horde. A partnership was quickly established, as the Sethekk would be reborn in undeath and the Forsaken will accompany them in the Outlands, in search of dark powers.

    New race : Arakkoas

    BL
As the portal is opened once again, the Legion's forces on Azeroth will be joined by a group of Shivarra warning them that Illidan betrayed Kil'jaeden and captured many demons, including a coven of their peers. The Legion will then enter the Outlands to make the demon hunter pay, only to discover the treason of their own people.

    New race : Shivarra

Ending : All factions would fight for the control of the Black Temple, trying to achieve their own goals. Night elves would rescue Maiev, Horde and Alliance would defeat Illidan, the Scourge would gain access to Gorefiend's secrets and the Legion will be able to salvage numerous artifacts that were taken by the illidaris all the while punishing the demons who dared betray Sargeras.

    Wrath of the Lich King
After the mere setback of the failed necropole assaults, the Scourge tries and attack Azeroth once again. The Horde and the Alliance move to the Northrend, but Sylvanas wants this vengeance to be hers. As for the Legion... They just want their old pawn back.

The Death knights class will be accessible for all ! Acherus, after creating so much Horde, Alliance and Night elves DK will betray the Scourge. But Sylvanas, will find her own way to produce those warmachines... As the Legion would, thanks to the precious informations of Varimathras.

Ending : Varimathras betrayed and joined back the Legion. But Sylvanas hit both Bolvar and Tirion with a black arrow, becoming the new Lich Queen. Both Horde and Alliance try to maintain their forces in the Northrend to stop this new threat from arising. The Legion couldn't get back their lich servant, but rallied the undercover nathrezims and strengthen their ranks with their pawns.

    Cataclysm
The new Scourge of Sylvanas seems pretty tamed, but the Horde and Alliance won't let go of the offense made to Tirion, Bolvar and Saurfang Jr. Luckily (or not) a new threat arises as Deathwing shakes the earth and sets the skies ablaze. Every faction is now turning their eyes away from the great North.

    Horde
With the new war ahead, Horde forces are called from everywhere to defend the assaulted lands. The taunkas made no exception and had to step out of the frozen toundras to aid their new allies.

    New race : Taunkas

    Alliance
Though the Hinterland were quite spared from the Cataclysm, the Twilight Highlands had been much more affected. The Alliance and the Wildhammer tribe will need to strengthen their bond in this new conflict.

    New race : Wildhammer dwarves

    NE
Gilneas suffered from calamity after calamity in the Cataclysm. The spread of the worgen curse, the earthsakes and the attack from the Forsaken. The pride of Greymane would not let him call the Alliance for help, but since the Night Elves came to help them master their feral curse, they would join these allies of Nature and embrace their new instincts.

    New race : Worgen

    Forsaken
Since she took over the frozen throne, Sylvanas has been worryingly silent. Val'kyr, aside with a new type of gargoyles, came to the forsaken forces in Lordaeron to lead them to battle, in the name of the Lich Queen. Some forsaken citizens start to worry about what the Dark Lady's plans might be for them, and for the world.

    New race : Gargoyles

    BL
As the Old Gods of Azeroth seem to be unleashing the all might of their pawns, the forces of the Burning Legion in this world need an asset to counter this new threat who strikes indiscriminately, mortals and demons. They will then rally the satyrs who remained loyal to Sargeras and didn't follow Xavius' change of masters.

    New race : Satyrs

Ending : While the Horde, Alliance and Night elves will lead a conjoint assault to defeat Deathwing, the Burning Legion takes the fight to Cho'Gall and punish the ogre for his lack of loyalty. The Forsaken would trespass in Nefarian territory to put an end to his experiments... And take the results for themselves.

    Mists of Pandaria
Though the Horde and the Alliance took foot on Pandaria by mistake, the greed of the Burning Legion and the Lich Queen will drive their forces to this mysterious and plentiful land. Both the demons and undead are after the ancient secrets of the mogu, in the arts of molding flesh and defiling souls.
And if the Horde, Alliance and Night elves will meet their new pandaren allies on Shen-zin Su, the Undead and Demons will take over villages on Pandaria itself.

    Horde & Alliance
There really won't be anything new regarding the Horde and Alliance presence on Pandaria. Garrosh will ultimately go crazy for power and end up the corrupted prick we've all known, while Anduin will become our goody two shoes after his royal tantrum.

    New race : Pandaren

    NE
Emphasis will be made on the Night elves quest to find their fountain of youth. On their way, they will end up helping the different Celestials while the furbolgs reconnect with their long lost cousins. And if the pandaren will teach the ways of the Chi to the forces of Nature, Night elves will teach the pandaren the ways of druidisms and the bond that can exist with the Emerald Dream.

New race : Pandaren, with the possibility to become druid

    Forsaken
The Forsaken wanted access to the secrets of the mogu, but they could not rise as undead those stone creatures. So they decided to resurrect pandaren in order to gain knowledge of the land and better infiltrate their society to achieve their goals.

New race : Undead Pandaren, with the possibility to become a Death Knight

    BL
Upon arriving on Pandaria, the Legion encountered a raid of mogu on a pandaren village. Although the mogu quickly turned against them and were annihilated, the demons were baffled by their use of soul ripping magic. Nathrezims quickly rounded up the survivor, corrupting them with fel magic to inflict them a lust for power, vengeance and destruction.

New race : Corrupted Pandaren, with the possibility to become warlock

Monk will be available for most. The forsaken and the demons, by corrupting and rising undead pandaren, have perverted these martial arts, using the power of Decay and Fel instead of the Chi.

Ending : With Garrosh going crazy and Orgrimmar being under siege, everyone will try to benefit from chaos. Forsaken will bolster their ranks with the fallen, the Legion will get their hands on the Pandaria's artifacts gathered by the Horde and Night elves will claim retaliation for the attacks on their lands.

Warlords of Draenor Warlord of the Mongrels

Big retcon ahead ! Instead of the Warlords of Draenor, we'll get the Mongrel Horde of Garrosh as a playable faction !

    Mongrel Horde
After his humiliation in Orgrimmar, Garrosh was taken out of his trial in Pandaria by the Legion. In exchange, the demons asked him to follow his father's step by making him and his followers drink the blood of a pit lord. But the orc would refuse and turn against his "saviors", beheading good ol' Varimathras before going his own way. Rallying his troops and goblin allies, he will take over the various savage tribes of Kalimdor and enhance them with goblin tech to better serve his revenge.

Members : Gnolls, Kobolds, Troggs, Centaurs, Quillboars, Harpies, Murlocs

Most of this extension will be about the Horde and the Night elves trying to rebuild their home, all the while facing the attacks of the Mongrel Horde. The Alliance will try to get its land back from the Forsaken, and the Legion will meddle in everyone fights to get to their own goal : the opening of the Tomb of Sargeras.

    Legion
Here we will cut the crap stating that you need a Gul'dan to open the Tomb of Sargeras. It will instead be brought back by the demon faction. Chaos follows as the Legion launch its massive attack on Azeroth. Also, even if Vol'jin dies at the Broken Shore, he will immediately be replaced by Baine, who will also be the one to take the blame for Varian's death.

The new Demon Hunter class will be available for Alliance and Night elves only, (Yeah, class repartition is all over the place in this fanfic...) because I think it would be too much of a stretch to try and give it to every faction. And I stretched really hard to get everyone a monk !

Ending : Despite the efforts of the demon faction, Kil jaeden will die, Sargeras will be imprisoned by the Pantheon, and the Legion will only be able to salvage the heart of Antorus.

Horde allied races : With the Legion mostly defeated, the Horde will strengthen the bonds made with the Highmountain tribes. The Mag'har of Outland will be able to massively come to Azeroth, leaving their dying world behind.

Allied races : Highmountains and Mag'har

Alliance allied races : Not much will change from how the Alliance get the Lightforged. As for the Void elves, although Quel'thalas leaders won't reconsider their decision to banish them from the Sunwell, they will still accept them in the realm.

Allied races : Lightforged and Void elves

NE allied races : During the war against the Legion, Drake-Faë will come to aid in Val'sharah with a new form, more humanoid and more potent. This new incarnation of these allies of Nature will soon join the rank of the Night elves. After the battle against the Legion, Tyrande will just not be a bitch about the Nightborne and they would join too.

Allied races : Fae (humanoid incarnation of the Drake-fae) and Nightborne

Forsaken allied races : Sylvanas being the Lich Queen will completely changed her relation to Helya. Instead of bargaining a deal with her, the Dark Lady will save her ass once she's defeated by Odyn and get her to join her forces, along with the kvaldir. Meawhile, in Suramar, the nerubian will find unexpected allies in the Fal'dorei, the cursed arachnid elves, relieving them from the curse of mana thirst with the gift of undeath.

Allied races : Kvaldir and Fal'dorei

BL allied races : After the defeat of the Burning Legion and the loss of Kil'jaeden and Sargeras, the demon armies will start to crumble. To maintain cohesion, the demons on Azeroth will need to rally one of the most powerful race of demonic leaders, the Eredar. They will also flee the Broken Isles with every Felborne that could follow them.

Allied races : Eredar and Felborne

MH allied races : Garrosh -now Emperor of the Mongrels- grows impatient and frustrated of not getting his revenge on the Horde, the Alliance and the Night elves... But the Mongrels are quite happy with the results they got by working together, even if they just survived their first apocalypse as a faction. Emboldened by these feats, they will try to get their peers all over the world to join their "better Horde". As a result, the Snobolds from Northrend and the Stone troggs will rally their forces, to the dislike of Garrosh, who is slowly getting tired of these guys shits.

Allied races : Snobold and Stone troggs

    Battle for Azeroth
BFA will be different in numerous ways with this much factions. But I guess you can still get the major event of the expac here and there.
The azerite is a game changer. So much so in fact, that the Mongrel Horde will move against the Night elves to steal their island. But accident ensues and Teldrassil ends up burning. The Alliance is still blaming the Horde for Varian's death, but has chosen to move on Lordaeron and take back the city from the Forsaken. The Legion, in an effort to preserve themselves from a new conjoint assault of the Horde and the Alliance, will try their best to spread confusion and misinformation between the two factions. Most of the conflicts in the world will be the result of this tactic, and factions will race to make new and powerful allies.

Horde Instead of the AU Mag'har, the Horde will look for the Mok'nathal, to try and convince them that the Outland is indeed doomed and there's no point in dying with it.

Allied races : Mok'nathal, Zandalari, Vulperas

Alliance No changes whatsoever in the races recruited and the order they are taken in.

Allied races : Dark Iron, Kul Tiran, Mechagnomes

NE After losing their home in Teldrassil, the Night elves will seek refuge in Hyjal and Nordrassil. Here, they will find the help of the Stone giants, who will assist them as such, but also by sending smaller, vibrant incarnation of the earth in their ranks, just as the Fae did after the Legion attack. But with rumors of Azshara returns, and the shores being unsafe, the night elves will search for allies in the sea, meeting with the wise Tortollans. After N'zoth is unleashed and Azshara is taken, a climate of confusion and panic takes on the nagas. Some of them will beg the Night elves for help, with the promise to help them defend the world from the Black Empire, as long as they let them get their queen back. Though Tyrande doesn't intend to let the queen live, she knows better than to turn down help in a war against an Old God.

Allied races : Stone giants (smaller incarnation), Tortollans, Nagas

Forsaken Although they were not the ones who set Teldrassil on fire, the undead will take advantage of the situation and take over Darkshore to rise the fallen as undead. At the start of the war, Sylvanas will send the San'layn from the Northrend and the player will have to make sure these guys get fresh blood (in every meaning). Then during the siege of Dazar'alor, the Forsaken will abduct the remaining ice troll in Zandalar, as long as knowledge of his loa, so that the last remnants of the Drakkari empire can be assimilated by the undead forces. And then, as the war concludes, Sylvanas will be joined by the drusts, after she freed them from the Blasted lands.

Allied races : San'layn, Ice Trolls, Drusts

BL Most of the Legion effort in this extension will be to turn the other factions against each other, all the while reinforcing their own ranks. In order to do so, they will travel to multiple worlds, only to see how much power the demons have lost all over the universe. The gigantic pitlords are no more, and those who will join the fight are weaklings far smaller than the great commanders they once were. The aranasi and their multitude are not so prolific anymore, and only a fraction of their spider children will become sentient queen demons like them. The situation is so critical that even the foolish but resourceful wyrmtongues are considered a valuable asset.

Allied races : Annihilan, Aranasi, Wyrmtongue

MH After burning down Teldrassil, the Mongrel Horde felt pretty confident about their combat abilities, except for the tiny detail that Emperor Hellscream wanted to OCCUPY it. This extension, the orc chief will have a hard time maintaining control over his overenthusiastic troops and ends putting out more fire than he actually intended to set. Luckily, unexpected good news will sometimes come to him : like that time when the murlocs brought this clan of Saurok who wanted to join his armies. Or that other time when the murloc king managed to rally his peers from the depth of the ocean, freed from Azshara's domination. How can murloc make friends so easily ? He himself only managed to bring one new faction under his command, and they were hard to convince. But in the end, these mogu are great at conducting inferior races. Surely they will be able to help him regain control over his numerous, yet undisciplined armies.

Allied races : Saurok, Deep murlocs, Mogu

Ending : Saurfang would not have been made a prisoner during the battle of Lordaeron, nor would there have been the need for a rebellion. Instead Horde and Alliance will reconcile over the rescue of Derek, taken by the Forsaken and the discover that they were indeed manipulated by the Legion. The return of Wrathion and the lash out of Anduin against the black dragon will help the young King to move on his father's death and make peace.

    What about the future ?
I didn't give much thought about Shadowlands. But mostly, it will be revealed that ever since she put on the Lich King helmet, Sylvanas had a feeling something was getting wrong in the afterlife. All the years she commanded her armies to be more and more aggressive, to reinforce their ranks, she tried to prepare her forces for what was to come. And when the moment arrived, she stood up from the frozen throne and tear her helmet apart, before entering the realms of Death with her most loyal subjects.

One thing I think would be fun is about the Mongrel Horde.
In the future, Garrosh and the mogu will treat the Mongrel Horde pretty badly, considering them like slaves. But at some point, the orc will die in a dire battle to save what he took so long to build. His death, so pointless from his point of view, will be mistaken for a noble sacrifice, and the Mongrel Horde will be more united than ever. Even the mogu will be touched in their heart of stone and see the error of their brutish ways. Emperor Hellscream will be elevated to the status of god by the Mongrels, a God of Honor, Leadership and Sacrifice. A council of the bastard chiefs will be founded, to defend their people, to preserve their leader's heritage, and to pursue his goal : the obliteration of the other great factions who looked down on them.

The rest is mostly hypothetical races to join each and every faction and things inspired by other speculation threads and fan made content from this forum. Candidates for an hypothetical Tinker class, a Dragon oriented expansion and class, things like that !

Horde hypothetical races : Sethraks, Hozen, Amani, Farraki, Drogbar, Yaungol, Gilgoblins

Alliance hypothetical races : Arathi humans (turned into thunderforged humans), Alteraci humans (thin humans ?), Earthen, Frost dwarves, Jinyu, Broken

NE hypothetical races : Botanis (seeds reborn thanks to the Sporelings), Absolved satyrs, Crystal nymphs, Furbolgs and Harpies blessed by their wild gods.

Forsaken hypothetical races : Flesh assemblages (think Frankenstein's monster), Val'kyr, Slimes, Shades, High-nerubians, Crypt lords

BL hypothetical races : Void walkers, Mo'arg, Corrupted Ethereals, Fel'orcs, Inquisitors, Corrupted blood elves

Mongrel Horde hypothetical races : Quillboars and Gnolls blessed by their wild gods, Variation of centaurs more attuned to the earth (Sand-taurs ?), Hobgoblins, a variation of goblins from the Cartel that followed Garrosh (mecha-goblins ? Alchemy-enhanced goblins ?), a variation of orcs to represent Garrosh old kor'kron units (Kor'kron veterans, orcs with more scars ?), Harpies enhanced by dark magics, Kobolds from the depths of the earth.

Candidates races for the Tinker class : Gnomes and Mechagnomes (Alliance), Goblins and Vulperas (Horde), Nightborn and "Treants" (Night Elves), Undead and Assemblages (Forsaken), Mo'arg and Imps (Burning Legion), Mecha-goblins and Kobolds (Mongrel Horde)

Candidates races for a Dragon class and expansion : Dalaran humans as drakonid (Alliance), Dragonmaw orc dragon knights (Horde), Green dragon as astral projections (Night Elves), Lich able to morph into frostwyrm (Forsaken), Corrupted Nether Drakes (Burning Legion), Dragonmaw orc dragon riders (Mongrel Horde)

Candidate races for ulterior Demon Hunters : Orcs (Horde), San'layn (Forsaken), Corrupted blood elves (Burning Legion), Kor'kron veterans (Mongrel Horde)

    More details ?
I've made a chart of classes repartition and also thought of racial talents for the new vanilla core races, as well as mount ideas for almost everyone. But I think it would to much to post in one go, and I'd rather let you people think about it and see what your ideas may be ! So if you feel like jogging your imagination a bit, don't hesitate to post !

Maybe four factions, with some ability to cross-faction group and definitely not the the races laid out, some but not all.

It probably would have been a more interesting game, with the expansions playing out entirely differently.

In my opinion, having any number of opposing factions in an MMO is just straight up bad game design. Even two factions like WoW has. Every player should be on the same faction and be able to help each other because it creates a nicer friendlier community.

The game would have died year one due to factions having the populstion of an average social guild

You'd be lucky to get a group ever. That's what'd happen.

Five (Six later it seems) is a touch too much. I’d say scrap the Burning Legion and keep them as generic raid fodder.

Personally I’d have gone tri faction, having Alliance (Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes), Horde (Orcs, Darkspear, Tauren) and Illidari (Blood Elves, Broken Draenei, Illidan-loyal Night Elves).

Three factions tends to work quite well in MMO’s from what I’ve seen.

There are two main problems with so many factions.

First: You splinter your playerbase into 5 parts. Chances are high, that there is worse faction imbalance than with 2 factions, leading maybe one or two factions to kinda wither away. At that point you need to enable cross-faction play and at that point, why even have factions at all.

Second: Content and representation. How do you ensure that all 5 factions have some kind of representation and their own questlines. You either more than double the workload of quest and narrative designers or you make all quests neutral. Again, if everything is neutral, why even bother with different factions. Horde, Alliance and Night Elves probably vould feasibly work together but allout evil Forsaken and the Burning Legion don't really fit into it.

Remember SHAMAN vs PALADIN discussions and since balance is never achieved in the eyes of the players, the game end up with OP things for either faction and the bar needs to be raised every content/expansion.

Played those games with 3 and more factions and it sucked, since every faction had to have some unique (and OP) thing and it was just stupid at some point.

Homogenization even with only 2 factions is the only way to go and even that is not enough, see the steady growth of the HORDE faction just because of some old imbalances that still impact the current faction choice for the COMPETITIVE players.

What the casual mass is doing is not a real factor in any faction/balance related topic, since they have no real impact and at some point they will just follow the trend, just like sheeps looking for green grass.

Cool idea on paper, bad on implementation if there was no cross play. Game would die out of shortage for players. Even medium pop players wouldn't have a proper guild because the playerbase of each server would be splintered in 5. Game would die by wotlk at most lol.

For y'all saying it wouldn't work because of population imbalance, you're totally right. It actually wouldn't work for plenty reasons, like Jaggler said it would inflate the amount of work for quest design, or as Soluna said it would at least require some cross play. Battlegrounds would be insane if you could play 40vs40vs40v40vs40. And it would be a bit of a shame if the battlegrounds were limited to two or even three factions.

I didn't go on details but I had a few little ideas for the questing and PvP. Like some factions could have common quests in order to fight a common enemy, which could lead to some associations (Like Night elves associating to Horde and Alliance against the Forsaken or the Legion. Or demons and undead allying against the Scourge, or the Alliance. Horde and Alliance associating with the Forsaken against the Legion, etc.). As for pvp, the mercenary mode would be implemented way sooner, and you'd be able to join a fight alongside a faction that isn't yours. Heck, you could have mercenary mode for dungeons and raids as well. I also thought about some races being able to infiltrate other factions in order to damage them, but that would be a tad too specific and maybe not all that fun !

Haha yeah, I might have gotten carried away. I mean, when you add a 6th faction, it's only because the five factions system already works, otherwise it's suicidal xD

Thanks ! I think you wouldn't need to change the story of the game at core, but you'd be able to have a way greater vision of the world of warcraft by looking through the eyes of every faction.

I know right, being able to make tons of toons is a curse xD

Each faction would have some unique gameplay in the form of a class or two (and because of cross faction groups it wouldn't be an issue for PvE balance); Horde would have Shaman, Alliance Paladins, Kaldorei Druids, Forsaken Death Knights and Illidari Demon Hunters. I'd give worgen to the Forsaken (go with the horror movie staples; Zombies in Forsaken, Werewolves in Worgen, Ghosts by giving Banshees and Spectres, perhaps Mummies using the mummified trolls from EPL?, Vampires with the San'layn)
I too had thought about unique classes for some of the factions, but it would have mean to get the Warlock class for the demon faction only. But you're kinda right about the worgen, before it was decided to make them of druidic origin, their backstory was quite open to interpretation. I knew that some races were included to the Horde and Alliance to bring some identity they were lacking (elves in the Horde, goblins for the fun side, worgen for the ferocious side). But with this many factions, maybe you could focus on one identity per faction ?

Sure as hell hasnt helped FFXIVs community
someone has a bad experience. assumes the entire community is like that. maybe don't play on diabalos, honestly.

as for the topic at hand. Some neat ideas. MH is bad. Legion playable is bad.

so many people bitching about balance. fuck that.

game would be better off if there were more. but it'd be best if it allowed a detachment from faction. leaving your faction and joining another, all of that.

5 is too many. But I think there should have always been 3:

    Alliance
    Horde
    Forsaken/etc
    S (moderator)
    P (WoW Gen, Pets/Mog/Ach, Fun/Chat Zone)
    L (guidelines*)
    E (WoW gen rules*)
    N (my art*)
    D (Pikachu BEST Pokemon)
    A (Sensational™)

more like a bad experience spanning 5 years.

Seems like the only way to get a good experience with majority of the people is to not require anyone to know how to press buttons and to accept the fact the game is perfect and in no need of fixing.

You know what ? I completely forgot about the moonkin ! I should have included them way way sooner. Maybe instead of the Fae or the Sporelings xD

Playable Legion would be the most tricky to implement, but since I saw it was discussed in the early development of WoW, I wondered how it could have turned out. Same curiosity brought me to make the Mongrel Horde, that "What if they followed through ?"

I think so too, but these 5 factions with really enclosed identities, goals and motivation, doesn't help to see a world where everyone can cooperate.
