Why did they make the corruption system so RNG?

RNG to get a good item you need. RNG to see if it corrupts. RNG to see if it is a "good" corruption. And then more RNG to see what level of corruption it is.

Wasn't the whole idea to make a system better than titanforging?

This is the kind of thing that has me concerned about Shadowlands. I don't think Blizzard lacks the ability to create interesting things. I think they just really don't want to and don't care. It's not Activision, it's everybody at that whole company, they just follow metrics and design everything around Skinner box ideas and making players play for as long as possible, while creating as little content as possible.

It's another layer of RNG simply because we're headed into the longest content drought yet of BFA before the next expansion comes out. Big RNG has some people sticking around longer to get that slightly better drop that's slightly more rarer to obtain. Even though it's all going to be trash a few levels into Shadowlands.

Isnt this that troll account that spams Blizzard hate threads? Either way i will bite.

Because the mechanic is irrelevant for the 99%, it doesnt matter what they get, it doesnt actually affect how they play, its literally just another mechanic to exist and depending what you get, play around it.

Like the LFR heroes on here, crying dear murder their friend got Rank 3 of something, and they only got Rank 2, because in M+5 it matters much.

Sure, the progressing manbabies cry because their log is 99% and not 100% because of the corruption, because it matters somehow to Blizzard how warcraftlog ranks work.

Corruption is an awful system, and I hope it slinks off entirely once Shadowlands launches.

Of all the well intentioned but misguided systems this year corruption is the worst. Far worse than essences and traits.

Uh actually this raid tier is looking to be a lot SHORTER than many other final tiers before it.

LEGION: Antorus released 11/28/2017, BFA released 08/13/2018 (8 months)
WoD: Hellfire Citadel released 06/23/2015, Legion released 08/30/2016 (14 months)
MoP: Siege of Orgrimmar released 09/10/2013, WoD released 11/13/2014 (14 months)
Cata: Dragonsoul released 11/29/2011, MoP released 09/25/2012 (10 months)

Ny'alotha released 01/21/2020 which means any release of Shadowlands before 09/21/2020 would make it last shorter than Antorus, and a LOT shorter than the three tiers before that. And it's looking everything like a late summer/early fall release, which could easily mean this is in the fact the SHORTEST content drought before the next expansion in recent history.

Because game design is a foreign concept to them and random procs that proc randomly on random drop gear with a random rank and maybe a random socket that do 5-10% of your DPS seemed like a good idea.

Easy answer: If it didn't had RNG they would just get the pieces they want fast and don't bother anymore, but with RNG, they keep trying and trying harder, "it didn't get corrupted" "it corrupted but wrong affix", or even worse as it happened to me once "it corrupted on a 420 ilvl piece from a quest...wrong item to corrupt with the right affix"... makes you want to go further and clean pieces that the affix on that corrupted gear doesn't serve you and makes you too high on corruption and gets you excited when you get the right ones and on the right gear, but i still despise having so much layers of RNG for something.

It's about 3 things that I can see:

    1) Extending gear progression: Because you're statistically unlikely to get the perfect combo of RNG on any item, there is almost always the possibility of improving your gear. This is important for a number of reasons:
1a) Preventing people getting stuck with progression because even if you are stuck, there continues to be the possibility of gear upgrades through perseverance, enabling players and guilds to eventually overcome roadblocks without the need for content nerfing.
1b) Allows players to keep playing for as long as they find it fun instead of feeling like it's pointless after getting BiS.

    2) Making all content potentially relevant: Players will avoid doing stuff they might enjoy doing if there is no possibility of any progress from doing that content. So as long as lower end content has a chance of dropping a potential upgrade through RNG, players don't feel compelled to avoid that content.

    3) Getting players to experience different playstyles: Different corrupted effects alter the playstyle somewhat. There are literally thousands of potential combinations that one can use, so it falls to each player to decide what combination they think will work out best for them - not necessarily just about numbers, but also ease of use, risk vs reward etc.

I can, however, understand that some players have a pretty narrow mindset about these things. It's not about fun or engaging gameplay, they just want to get the best gear asap so that they can be done with the content. Because for some reason, they have no choice but to keep playing until they have the very best gear possible, in spite of the fact that they already beat the final challenge of the expansion, in spite of the fact that they're no longer having fun and in spite of the fact that they know fullwell that when the next expansion drops, their BiS set will become obsolete anyway.

Did it ever occur to you to look at when that post was last edited? Because another poster also quoted him, and it's pretty evident that the "of BFA" was added later....

Blizzard started to really get into their fetish of multiple layers of RNG back in Legion.

Wish these assholes would at least give SOME control to the player... like perhaps letting us store Corruption using MOTHER (she can remove it), with limited space and usage of Mementos, to transfer it to another piece of gear.

In an expansion that made you "loot abilities" ? and removed your abilities because you looted a higher ilvl item ? are we still asking why BfA happened ?

Yeah man, wait... Didn't that happen in every expansion?

I specifically remember us having on use trinkets and gear, and tier sets since vanilla...

You answered your own question. They've become a bunch of assholes who's only goal is to dish out effortless addictive ideas to make the average Joe stay subbed most if not all the time. Don't expect next expansion to be any different.

Idk what they were thinking about when they created this mess of a system. They removed WF/TF, only to replace it with something with even more layers of RNG, whose effects are much more powerful than "vanilla" WF/TF ever were. It's the Legiondaries meme all over again.

Blizzard has a special love affair with stuffing as much RNG as possible in the game. They believe it's good design and keeps players invested in the game. We believe its a good reason to unsub.

Unfortunately, considering they'd need at least that long to have a decent alpha/beta cycle and launch in a better state than the past 2 times.

Corruption is a good idea poorly implemented due to badly balanced affixes.

Uhhh... have you played this game since Legion?

It's basically a slot machine with an RPG skin.

Unironically, this seems to be the case, as the statistics pile up.

No Mind Flay for you? Aww, too bad, that's a -30% dps reduction compared to your peers who lucked out and looted one with it.

I fuck#n hated the rngforging the day it arrived in MoP. It invalidated and made 10-man feel more unfair IMO. But back then I kind of felt why they did it, as there was a real reason. That was to incentivise people to do form 25-man raids instead, as the chances of getting rngforged stuff there, was higher.

Nowadays, none of it makes any sense with the single raid size.
It's just there because it was and stayed propbably because of the casino elements. Aka. hooking people.
