Is it still popular for hunters to pick up Engineering for the jumper cables? Seems like a good idea to have an extra b-rez that works 50% of the time?

It's really handy if you do a lot of dungeons. Some of the runbacks if you wipe are really tedious.

As a Hunter, I considered Goblin Jumper Cables as a mandatory skill.
If I wanted to be melee, I would have rolled a Rogue.
