Probably the same Azshara and N'zoth have been doing. That is, completely nothing, since their plans fully depended on recent events which they could in no way foresee.
Blizzard is pretty bad in writing characters who's lifespan is longer than that of human's.

I recall reading that he tried to kill himself repeatedly but the enchantsments on his cage kept healing any attempt at self harm.
