This is one of those things, a global pandemic, where you should be thinking bigger than "insurance." You don't want people wandering homeless. I get it, stop their wages. Kicking them out makes the entire situation worse for everyone.

As a hotel you cannot take that risk. He burns down the hotel as an unregistered guest, who know what might happen.
That's why I said I would have let him register as a tenant and simply rented out the room.

Also, I kinda doubt that the person in question has nowhere else to go. Not a single hotel employee is crazy enough to forfeit their actual apartment because they got one room via their employer. Exactly because of a situation like this. What, was the person in question homeless before the hotel hired them?

The first bit is basically admitting the guy was wrong to do what they did.

I would definitely not pay for an apartment if I had other lodgings. No one I've known who's gotten housing through work has either. Admittedly, that sample size is 3 and all of those 3 were working at a national park in alaska, but hey.

Unless there is a set in stone notice period on your termination, giving up your lodging in return for the one provided to you by your employer, is one of the riskiest things you can do to yourself. For exactly the reason we see in the OP.

What, exactly, are you proposing to do to solve this?

Here's a hint: even under socialism, if the government isn't making money and supplies are running out because no one is producing, things are still going to get shitty. You can't just divine shit out of thin air to make this better.

People not working, not generating revenue, not utilizing services, not both buying in and putting out for the economy... everything grinds to a halt.

Or do you think under socialism we'd magically have months worth of goods stockpiled to weather such a storm? No. We wouldn't. We'd have even less because most people get lazy and focus on leisure instead of work when all their basic needs are guaranteed to be met.

People who are saying this is fine should consider what damage is it to the company to offer accommodations?

The rooms aren’t doing to be rented. So how much does it really hurt them? To at least extend it for a week so that you don’t make your employees homeless.

Not always guaranteed. In MI you need to have worked for a certain amount of time + have made a certain amount during that time.
I have a fan. Seems he was permabanned.

I don't see anything wrong with this? Seems pretty straightforward to me.

The least they could have done was give the guy a bit more notice than the day of before telling him he needs to find a new job and a new place to live.

If heads are gonna roll, you've got more to worry about than being homeless.

Oh you are right, the name sounded like your typical native american rip-off theme hotel, I didn't see the stuff on the bottom (also all the people with Location: US agreeing as this being reasonable..)*. Doesn't scottland have some protection laws against beeing thrown into the streets without proper notice in advance?

Capitalism as a system only works so long as the poor and the middle class who create the wealth don't catch on that despite doing all the hard work and creating wealth, they aren't getting much of it at all and instead the wealthy elite get most of it.

It was that realization that led to the rise of labor movements during the Gilded Age.

Yeah... the huge market crash caused by all countries basically shutting down due to the coronavirus, have you been living under a rock or something? Also this is hardly Great Depression territory.

But it's a real easy mistake to make... I mean who hasn't accidentally typed out a nasty letter evicting their employees in a time of crisis, put it in an envelop and then delivered it when what they really meant to do was to send a letter reassuring their staff.
