Collector's Edition boxes. Got the 15th Anniversary one (2, 1 I'll sell) but I bet there will be another one on the 20th anniversary for me to stress over.

I want to take the leap and start collecting minerals, in beautiful displays with mood lighting etc...

I am so jealous! I have wanted to start collecting minerals for years! One of these days...
Start small, just focus on a type, like calcite, quartz, sphalerite, etc. Or focus on a locale or country, like Mexico (lots of affordable calcite, mimetite, and wulfenite specimens from there), Canada (look up Thunder Bay amethyst, you won't be disappointed!), etc. Feel free to PM me!

eh not sure if it counts but i used to collect Troma VHS's and to some extent i guess i'm a collector of band merch(i don't really throw any of that away).
I had fun once, it was terrible.

I collect old photographs and CDVs from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Just love those old fashioned portraits, people were so elegant back then. For example, the photo on my avatar is from my collection.

I also collect antiques and vintage stuff in general. Yeah, it can be a bit expensive sometimes (expecially signed photos of famous people) but it's just so amazing to own things that are 100+ years old. I bought a mantel clock from 1879, still working perfectly. It just chimed while I was typing, love the sound it does.

I used to collect comics and CDs but I've given up on those because of space and also because I don't listen to them/read them so much anymore.

I used to collect souls. Now not much collecting of anything except the occasional retro game or item.

    Historical medical photography books.
    Body modification books.

I guess nonfiction books in general since I do have quite a lot, but those are the only two categories where I'll snag just about anything I don't have (when I can afford it) just because of the topic.

Records, I suppose. Though I would not call it a collection out any fetishistic desire. There are just few better options to enjoy music of a particular quality otherwise. I tried one of those super high-resolution lossless players and services and music sounded too flat. And often more compressed on newer and lo-fi recordings than I expected. Only vinyl gives the sound I am looking for on many records.

If there was a good alternative, I would banish all physical media from existence in my life. I do not want to hold on to, carry, store or be bothered by any physical media.

You'd love my grandfather's old photo albums then. He was in the Korean war in the MASH unit they made the show and movie after. He was an anesthesiologist and managed to get pictures of alot of the wounds and surgeries that they did there. one day I'll have to digitize it all.

Yeah, that's cool he was able to document all that. I feel like there are probably some publishers out there that would buy that stuff once digitized. You should definitely archive it.

Most of my medical photography books are either Burns Archives or from university presses on historical medicine, so the photographs in them tend to be much older. Like glass plate or daguerreotypes make up a good chunk of the pictures. The really old kinds are just especially interesting because of the contrast in how medicine has advanced, aside from the general coolness of old photography regardless of subject. And I do have a lot from medical museums, which are pretty much all newer photographs even if the specimens are old.

In any case, it's all cool. I have a lot of medical books in general but the photography ones are just fantastic. I have almost everything from the Burns Archive except the memorial photography books and a couple others that I couldn't find used and are insanely expensive.

The body mod books are a mix of modern stuff and some anthropology books.

Keychains (ones for states/cities and ones for merchandise)..! And soap bars. Apparently that's weird to people, but I like novelty soaps and fun scents.

Don't unless you have a dust-proof display.. seriously, dusting off fine complex shapes like these is a nightmare.

Edit: Fantasy books is my only real collection these days I guess. Though I have a few shelves full of scientific literature.. and that cabinet with the enzycopledia that my parents bought like 2 years before the internet started to become a mainstream thing. These 200-400kg of paper are a testament to folly. As far as books go they are pretty much book-binding porn, but the scientific quality is a a bit lacking, you couldn't even use them as reference material since they are actually pretty lightweight in terms of the details - I think they don't have formulae in them, making pretty much useless in any STEM field.

Kickstarter board games. Most of them are around €300 each, which is a real money drain.

My collection comes from buying from miners and other collectors, but you can join a mineral club and go to quarries to collect your own.
