Hi. Friends tried a lot of diets with my wife but nothing fits. There is no time to go to the gym. What should I do?

lol.. the problem is we don't know what "eat what you like" means. Is it drinking sodas every meal with a burger and fries?

OP: Don't drink soda or sugary drinks as a start. If you do JUST that you will be on your way. Just remember instead of that sugary drink you basically ate an ice cream in terms of calories and sugar. Honestly, I'd rather saves those calories on eating a really good dessert on a night out that week.

Health eating, calorie counting, and exercise.

Self control and a lot of patience.

Cut out sugars that don’t come from a fruit.

    Here's the deal:
Sugar fat salt. One of these 3 makes your food taste good. You will notice normal salad dressing has high fat. So you think, "fat is bad" and buy "Light/Lite" or "Fat-Free". In those versions you'll notice that it has more sugar or salt. This is how companies maintain the flavor of their product. You'll see Zero-Calorie products, which make you think, "o it's healthy". Nope. It's just chemicals put in your food that your body is calorie-neutral on. Most of those chemicals your body processes as sugar fat or salt. Some chemicals your body doesn't recognize at all and scientist still don't know what happens to it in your body - see aspartame.

If you want to eat healthy eat food that is not processed - food in its raw form that you then cook/bake/steam. Tried and true, half chicken breast (1/4 plate), Brown Rice (1/4) plate, Broccoli (1/2 plate). Plain, nothing added. Drink water or unsweetened tea.

Do not fall into the hype of "organic". Truth is, all plants on this planet are watered with the same water which is already contaminated by drugs and chemicals that have been flushed down the toilet over the last 100 years. (https://www.health.harvard.edu/newsl...s-in-the-water) Organic is a buzz word, the organic plants get the same contaminates of non-organic from water sources instead of fertilizers. While YES organic is better for you, it's not as much as the buzz makes it out to be.

It is better to eat healthy always versus not eating healthy because you can't afford organic. which is an excuse a lot of people use.

but... you literally need salt and fat. and I do mean need. healthy fat helps your body absorb nutrients, it is important for maintaining healthy hair, skin, nails and salt helps maintain balance of fluids in a blood, our blood pressure and is essential for nerve and muscle function. too much is bad. not enough is ALSO bad.

and... healthy doesn't mean its bland and not tasty. herbs and spices are not only making our food delicious, and many come with benefits of their own.

and btw, cooking = processing. just so that we are cleared. processed is NOT an automatic enemy of healthy, the question is HOW its processed, what is added to it or removed from it.

How to lose weight 101.....eat in a caloric deficit and make sure it’s whole foods and not processed BAM you’ll lose weight and be healthy it really is that easy. The willpower to do it is the hard part.

Sugar has a caloric index, regardless where it is from... the fuck you talking about?
I should have just put, if you want something sweet eat a fruit instead of eating candy or drinking a soda.

I know plenty of overweight people that got that way eating shitloads of sugary fruits and fruit juices. They love to say how they don't drink pop and how that's so great but they're still walking butter tubs.

If you want something sweet you're better off just sucking it up and eating a pickle instead.

Step 1. Stop sitting in front of a computer playing video games and posting on forums.

Step 2. Don't eat anything that tastes good. Only vegetables and nasty tomato-based shit, and other nasty, acidic crap. No salt, no fat, no sugar. No wonderful, creamy things. If it has any flavor whatsoever, put it down.

Step 3. If you're still young, that might be enough. If you're an old bastard like me, then you'll also have to run 9,000 miles every day -- not to LOSE weight, but just to not GAIN 10 lbs. if you so much as look at an ad for a fast food burger.

the key here is fruit JUICES.

you see fruit comes with fiber and fiber not only slows down absorption of sugar in fruit, but it also makes you feel fuller faster. juice removes all of that and just concentrates sugar in highly absorbable and not at all filling form. I mean its part of the reason the only reason i drink any kind of juice is right after weight lifting session, cause that quick shot of sugar helps replace my glycogen quickly and greatly reduce the DOMS. but that quick absorption is also what makes sugary drinks so dangerous. all those calories and you don't even feel them - and they often makes you thirstier than you were before you had them to boot. you eat an apple, you feel like you ate an apple.

medium apple (or about 1 cup sliced, since medium is relative) is about 50 calories. I challenge you to go over your caloric daily intake eating nothing but apples all day. you won't be able to do it. fiber won't let you. though TBH i wouldn't recommend it, cause that is incredibly unbalanced nutritionally, but you get the point.

there is nothing wrong with sweetness per se. in moderation. as long as you are aware of and account for the calories in your daily intake.

IDK what answers are already in the thread as it's too long to read through, but:

1st you need to learn what is the reason for your obesity. Even if it originated in eating a lot of junk food, it may have already caused obesity-related effects like insulin resistance and/or diabetes type 2, and you need to know that before you start doing anything. You may also have some thyroid dysfunction which causes you to excessively gain fat. So, find the reason.

Once you know if there is anything from the hormones side that you need to account for, you are all set up for a diet. Diet doesn't mean that you have to eat less. When I started my first diet I wasn't able to eat all of what I had to eat. The type of food changes, you can't eat sweet shit and processed food, but you are not hungry. One purpose of the diet is to NEVER be hungry, so you don't have cravings for junk food.

Counting calories is annoying and the first month you may get really frustrated when you do shopping, as 90% of the stuff in shops is non-eadible once you start reading composition labels (the main reason for obesity plague in developed countries) - but eventually, you will find the stuff you can eat and you like and you will be fine. When on diet you don't have to do ANY exercise to lose weight - you even shouldn't as exercising increases your calory intake demand and you need to take that into account.

The diet must be professional, not some "keto paleo yoga" bullshit from the internet that will make you eat only cabbage for a month. Diet is nutrition science not some astrology from fashion influencers, you need to consult the REAL specialist if you don't want to starve or malnourish yourself or go back to your weight + 20 pounds after a month because of the yoyo effect.

not really. I freaking love pickles, TBH, but their are really REALLY salty. we do need salt, but there IS such thing as too much salt, and its pretty easy to hit that point while munching on too many pickles. oh and commercially canned pickles don't have the same digestive fermented product benefits that home made fridge pickles do.

False. It's important to keep macronutrient balance as well as eat diverse food with a lot of micronutrients. That is because the hormones that drive hunger will go nuts if the body lacks important nutrients and you will go into a "feeding frenzy" to find "that one thing I'd really like to eat but I'm not quite sure what it is"

Me and my fiancee have been dieting since about mid July after constant talk of trying to lose weight but not starting it.

This is 3 years after we made a concerted effort go try to lose weight, did but then due to finances couldn't keep it up.

All we are doing now is calorie counting. I've lost nearly 24lbs since mid July through just reducing calorie intake. Not trying to lose the weight fast so whilst I could lose more quickly, last time we did that it went to shit.

Honestly, making food from scratch allows a lot more control over what you are eating and you can still have "unhealthy" meals as you can adapt them to be less calorific

Low calorie dense food with a focus on protein did wonders for me

Do a 2/3 week experiment where you find your maintenance, once you find your maintenance cut 300-500 kcal, focus on building healthy habits, don't have cheat days or other bullshit, yes, Arnold and The rock have/had cheat days, you are not Arnold or the rock, carbs are no the enemy, keto/vegan/intermediate fasting/OMAD are overhyped crap, don't get trap with that shit, eat what you enjoy as long as is healthy and you are in a deficit

The most effective measure for me was changing what I eat. Not a diet per se, just cutting down on the bad stuff and eating it maximum once every 3 days; bread, pasta (these two are game-changers by themselves), rice, alcohol, juice, cheese, chocolate and sugars in general, and instead eating lots of vegetables and good proteins (eggs, some white meats, fish and/or beans). I still want to have a social life so I happily cheat and have pizza or sushis with friends once, mayyybe twice per week, and lost about 15-20 pounds in four months still. I exercised at the gym a lot until my province closed them and switched to jogging for my exercise, which is less fun but still helps a bit. Come winter I'll ski, do crunches at home and walk outside.

The important part is still enjoying what you eat. Trying a diet whose taste you don't like is a surefire recipe to failure unless you have uncommon discipline which you probably don't if you're overweight to begin with. I still eat tons of things I like; broccoli, asparagus, eggs, apples, bananas, chickpeas, chicken, pork, salmon, tomatoes, I could go on. You really don't need to go hardcore vegetarian or whatever to eat well, and light seasoning can give good taste to most anything besides. Fuck this keto diet bullshit peddled by internet influencers, a a friend tries that all the time and all she achieves is yo-yo'ing her weight because she inevitably regains most of what she lost eating literally only green veggies or whatever.

Also, beware falsely healthy food. Eating a salad is not much good if you drown it in a high-sugar dressing. I just shove some olive oil on it, a bit of salt and there you go. Vegetables are often good enough to not require much extra, for a normal meal anyway. Also, don't make the same mistake I made; no, eating a good amount of vegetables with your pasta and steak every day does NOT make it a healthy meal by any stretch of the imagination.

Bonus point, eating well is better for my wallet than eating badly. Sure, vegetables are costly, but so is bread, red meat, cheese, juice and junk sugars.
