Would not be surprised if early votes cross 100 million by tonight. If there's a 40-45 million turnout tomorrow, that would be superb for democracy...assuming the ballots then all actually get counted and aren't thrown into the bin by the Supreme Council of the Galactic Empire.

Well, I just moved to Washington from California about 2 years ago so my signature on file is fairly recent; I've also signed my name about 50,000 times over the last 10 years in the course of my job, so I'm not surprised that it's pretty consistent.

That’s why you deleted that post in the Trump thread, I figured...

Yeah, I thought this was going to go the other way, since the judge was painted as a hard lock GOP:

Judge tells Texas Republicans they must prove 'evil motive' to throw out drive-through ballots

    Texas, back on the table!

Also claimed that even if the GOP had standing he would have ruled against him. Even somebody as partisan as this judge apparently found this case a bridge too far.

Proving ‘evil motive’ is an interesting choice of words...

They can appeal to the 5th circuit... So we're not out of the woods yet.

Realistically it's all over but the whining. The Texas Supreme Court sealed its fate.

Apparently he agreed with republicans that they should be thrown out, cause they are tents, which he personally doesn't think are structures. whelp thankfully the law doesn't agree with him, so he had really no option but to rule against the GoP here.

Even if the plaintiffs did have standing, the judge says he would still count the votes.

He says the tents qualify as structures.
This was my favorite part. But in some bad news -

Judge says he would not vote drive-thru tomorrow so he could be sure his vote counts.

Orders the county to maintain records of what votes were cast via drive-thru.

Sounds like he's leaving the door open to tossing ballots cast at drive-thru tents specifically on election day. If you're voting tomorrow, try to find an actual buildign to make sure your vote doesn't risk getting thrown out because Texas Republicans are pathetic.

See my post, it's different. Election day laws I guess require a "building" which is different than a "structure", so he was basically signaling to the Republican plaintiffs (if I'm understanding correctly) that they lost this battle but can come back on election day to request that any ballots cast at a drive-thru location on election day be tossed.

Still doesn't really fix their standing issue. The guy who literally wrote the book on constitutional law pointed this out yesterday.

Ahh okay thanks for the clarification. Hopefully they tear the tents down tonight, because there should be enough building polling sites that tents wouldn't be needed anyhow.

We'll see. I wouldn't be surprised to see the judge rule in their favor (given that he basically told them what to do), requiring this to be appealed up the chain.

Which de-facto accomplishes the same goal of delaying the vote count/causing chaos in vote counting to give Trump cover to claim the election is rigged/fraudulent etc.

See Ripsters post, apparently an actual Constitutional lawyer pointed out that the Texas GOP would still not have standing to sue in a federal court.

    Heh.

The all-Republican Texas Supreme Court previously rejected the plaintiffs’ challenge to drive-through voting at the state level on Sunday.
    That part bears bolding.

Since when has the GOP ever let silly things like the "rule of law" get in the way of their agenda?
