What does trying in this case mean? Is just voting for a 3rd party candidate really trying? In your world view, is it likely that enough people in the country will simultaneously, extemporaneously choose to vote for the same 3rd party candidate? If someone were viable in this election, we would know that by now. We know right now that they are not. It's possible that that will change in the future, but at the moment our choices are clear.
Maybe the consequences of Trump as president don't impact you much, maybe you don't know anyone who died of or is at risk from covid, or know immigrants whose status has been impacted, or participate in the economy which is unraveling. Maybe you're insulated from all of it, but if these things actually matter to you, what matters to you more? The consequences of your choices, or adhering to an abstract ethical system. The consequences are not abstract, if you value change and progressiveness, there is a clear choice which will move a progressive agenda forward. Perhaps not as far forward as either of us would like, but it beats the other direction all to hell.
You say later that you value the economy - it is in the process of being harmed because of the incumbent in this election. If he's allowed to continue, it will be further harmed largely due to his noxious combination of supreme arrogance and supreme ignorance. Neither choice is ideal but they are not equivalent - if they look equivalent you are either extremely uninformed or extremely fortunate. We don't get to make ideal choices.
