The decision to revamp the regulations was subject to public comment. It sparked strong rhetoric from assault survivors as well as civil liberties groups, and drew more than 124,000 comments on the Federal Register's website in January 2019.

In March, three Democratic senators — Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Patty Murray of Washington and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts — wrote a letter to DeVos asking her to delay formalizing the guidelines, which they consider "misguided," and instead focus on helping schools and students navigate through the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Eighteen state attorneys general wrote a similar letter.

The attention on how to address sexual assault on college campuses comes amid the larger #MeToo movement focusing on claims of sexual misconduct that might otherwise be ignored.

Advocates for accused students have argued that some of the guidance under the Obama administration was too loose and unfair to alleged perpetrators — prompting DeVos to rescind his measure and pledge that the Education Department would embark on a "workable, effective and fair system."

Why? Biden sponsored the violence against women act, that allocated 1.6 billion to victims. Trump’s GOP is blocking it since March 2019, while Biden has signing it as his first 100 day plan. Biden isn’t afraid, but GOP seems to be...

Unlike Trump, Biden didn’t call his accuser a lier and is literally pushing for a bill that would help victims investigate, while GOP is actively blocking it and changing rules to protect accusers. Who are you really defending?

I dont understand commie. Like really i dont understand him. All of the actual communists that i knew in my time at the university knew that the little battles won meant a lot in the long term for their policies, and that the incremental approach was better than going backwards via not voting and allowing the more neoliberal/conservative candidate to win. Like, that happened here and the progressive branch of the left wing got a fuckton of flak because their preffered candidate didnt win, and they sat out the election, allowing a neoliberal candidate tl secure the election.

I fail to see how these changes are redefining assault and harassment... Per your own article:

Those students can also cross-examine their accusers, although it must be done through a lawyer or representative.

A presumption of innocence and the ability to defend themselves, IE: due process, is a bad thing?

But the meaning has become narrower, and misconduct must fall under certain categories, including unwelcome conduct that is "so severe, pervasive and objectively offensive" that it "denies a person equal access to the school's education program or activity."

You don't see that definition as overly broad? By that ridiculously generalized definition, if you were in college someone says something like "Hey Felya, wanna go on a date!?" and you don't want to... That's sexual harassment because its unwelcome conduct, you don't want the date; and unless they are trying to start some weird platonic dating relationship with you, its sexual in nature. Or say you are in class discussing some sexual topic, if you don't want to hear that topic, by that definition the teacher and class are sexually harassing you; because once again, its unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature.

And the second part there, the 'new' standard, isn't even new or a product of Devos; that's called the Davis standard and its been around since 1999 when the Supreme Court came up with these Title IX guidelines in the Davis v. Monroe County Board of Education case... So they are just going back to the previous standard which was established by justices Stevens, O'Connor, Souter, Ginsburg, and Breyer in their 1999 ruling.

That’s not true... the rules are now set at the school level. With this change, if the schools deems what you just said to be herrasment, they can take action. When the reality, is that it’s in the best interest of these schools to cover it up.

Except the school will be sanctioned if they do anything of the sort, according to the new guidelines.

Per the article:

Once school officials are made aware of an allegation, it must be taken seriously, the guidelines state.

But if a school acts "deliberately indifferent" toward a case, the Education Department would have to punish it only "if its response to sexual harassment is clearly unreasonable in light of the known circumstances." It's a higher bar than any previous administration has required.
