I think this is a terrible assumption to make since Trump successfully made covid a political issue and likely attracted a lot more morons to his cause by calling for no lock down measures. At best it's a wash, it probably gained him just as much support as it lost him.

Why do you think Trump's Covid Bullshit created (random number: 5 million, for example) new votes for Trump so it must have created only 5 million new votes for Biden? Couldn't it be likely, that it created 5 million for Trump and 10 million against Trump, for example?

Basically, grow the base, don't just shift it on the spectrum. They need to be appealing to both centrists and leftists. And certainly not creating division within their own party. Going after the youth vote in particular needs to be a part of their strategy, and that's where the likes of AOC, Bernie, and Ilhan Omar can really help them. Young voters overwhelmingly lean progressive, and it will pay dividends in the future.

That's literally what I'm arguing.

Right now, they're focusing on centrists, and minimizing their outreach to the progressives. That's been the case for basically decades. That's what I'm arguing against. That they should be focusing at least as much on the Ocasio-Cortezes and Omars as the Bidens and Pelosis and Clintons.

Yes, the party needs to figure out how to overcome bad branding. I just don't think that accepting Republican framing is the way to do that.

Frankly, this is impossible. "Bad branding" is just "propaganda". The only people falling for it are the willfully gullible and ignorant, who just want someone to tell them what to think so they don't have to spend 30 seconds Googling something and making an effort to inform themselves.

This is how they're able to "brand" Joe Biden of all people as "socialist". Because they're just lying, and they rely on people being too willfully stupid and lazy to fact-check anything they say.

Anyone falling for that kind of horseshit is completely unsalvageable as a useful voter. Worse, you're going to spend thousands of words and dozens of pages of rhetoric to try and overcome a one-line lie. It's the same reason anti-vaxxers and climate change deniers and flat earthers exist; they don't care about the truth, they just want to wrap themselves in a self-affirming lie so they don't have to admit they're wrong and ignorant. It's a waste of time and effort to try and get through that; the only effective path forward is to flatly write them off as a lost cause.

To be at least a bit fair to that GSA head normally a president would have conceded by now. That this one has not puts that person in a position of trying to decide if they need to contradict their boss and probably subject them and their family to various dangers or hold off until the votes are actually fully certified. I suspect they are going to wait until all the states have fully certified their ballots and recounts are done unless trump concedes. It sucks but it is pretty much the logical choice where nobody can really fault them for doing it then even if Trump is still in denial.
