I think we can acknowledge when the current company one keeps is mildly suspect given their situation.

And I think we can also acknowledge that people change over the years/decades and views they once held, even if truly awful, can be outgrown and they can try to work to counter any harm that may have been done as a result of those views.

But I think most intelligent people are gonna do a little research if they are gonna put up their own money, and with lawyers it's always quite a lot of money, because they are gonna wanna see what they are spending their money on. Unless it's pro bono, which, even then, I still want to know if they are reputable. Wouldn't want some hacks taking my case, who don't care if they win or lose because it raises their profiles regardless since it's a huge public case.

I was obviously alluding to the fact that a person isn't going to do a full background check on their entire legal counsel. I could have easily said, "the first-year intern once donated money to Sarah Palin". The thought still stands.
