Think polling puts Trump's base around 29-33%, these are people who will vote for him no matter what so you will never have a 30 point lead in an election since you are bound to have undecided as well.

It can't be brought up enough concerning the right wing base and how they vote. I talk with these people all of the time in person. Some of them, especially the seniors, only ever watch FOX news. Any other kind of info they get comes from something they see on FB. They are completely oblivious to reality.

It's extremely difficult to get through to them on nearly any subject. Even when faced with clear evidence that they believe something that isn't true they still won't budge. You can have video proof and it won't matter. It is 100% a cult.

It's crazy to think that someone as corrupt and incompetent as Trump can have support in the 30s, but this is part of the reason why.

Honestly, people should be happy it's kind of a safe, Democrat that can appeal to both moderate sides as well as obviously the left. Right the ship with Biden for the first term and possibly 2nd (since he's up in age, you never know). Then if you want to both a more left leaning candidate, go for it. You are probably right. In two years, I hope Biden will be president for Bernie to rip. I will probably be tearing into Biden for a range of stuff as well, this is called normal politics.

After he becomes President, we can start working through those issues. America can do a lot better then Joe Biden, but right now the goal is just to do better than Trump.

It's like people are stuck to some kind of arbitrary rules in which they're unable to envision the change that the country truly needs. I would like to think that the people of the USA can do better than this.

This is ridiculous, incremental change is how the world works. Demanding the perfect solution immediately is a very childish way to look at the world. It is like arguing we don't really need to put the fire out, we just need a new roof! Well obviously we will need a new roof, but the immediate problem is the building being on fire, and there is really no point in discussing what type of new roof we would like to see until the fire is out.

Of course we should have a vision for what we want ultimately, of course we should work toward getting the building rebuilt, but the first step toward any better future is stopping the damaging situation that is currently happening. Every type of first responder is taught to address the situation that is causing continued injury before attempting to treat injuries. If someone is shooting into a crowd, you deal with the shooter before treating the gunshot wounds, because it is far more efficient to stop additional gunshot wounds from happening then it is to treat them after the occur. If a building is on fire, the priority is getting people out of the fire first, treating the burns second, and dealing with the damaged building sometime in the distant future.

So your solution is violent revolution? What exactly is your plan in real world terms? Because that is the problem here. Allegories aside, we have a very concrete plan of action, vote for Biden. It is a real world solution that will make things better then they are now.

What exact action is your allegory referring to? Because complaining that Biden isn't perfect is both obvious, and unhelpful. Voting for Sanders in the General Election when he is not running is pointless, and will not improve anything. So what exactly is your plan? If you don't have one, and just like to complain, then that is your right, but don't expect anyone to take you seriously.

It’s not “just his opinion” it’s how the world, particularly the United States, works. You’re simply wrong here. Our nation is in crisis, we need to triage the damage fast, there is a clear first step to that. The people have spoken and that step is Biden. Anything otherwise is just being contrarian for the sake of it.

If anyone was still worried that Kanye would siphon votes from Biden, he apparently said that he is anti-abortion and anti-vaccine, so I think you can put his chances of taking votes from Biden out of your mind. The only people that will vote for him are people who weren't going to vote in the first place and are just doing it "for the lols".

We definitely do NOT have a very clear solution. What we have a very clear FIRST STEP. But it is a very small step.

I am glad these kinds of conversations are happening. If Biden wins in November, and the democrats take over the Senate and keep the House, well ok that WILL be cause for celebration. But it's more like a celebration of disaster averted. If the Senate stays republican, or Trump stays President, then there will be no way to make things better until after a later election.

Somewhere around 2 days after Biden formally becomes President the real work starts. It would be nice to start the discussions and battles right after the election, but that's too dangerous as long as Trump is officially President.

The US has huge structural problems. And they will require fairly substantial actions in order to change things around. Right now the various factions of the democratic party, for the most part, are quite united in defeating Trump.

Afterwards it will be very hard work and a lot of infighting. But as one of the left wing kind of people stated when talking about UBI: I am 100% for the idea of UBI, I think it can be made somewhat affordable, but how do we stop the business community from gaming the system and preventing it from helping anyone?

If you look at the Black Lives Matters issues, there are 2 things changing the conversation.

1) Phones that take very good video. Cops that kill blacks lost a lot of plausible deniability.
2) Many top companies have gone out of their way to support the Black Lives Matters movement in very public ways.

One reason I don't worry too much about Biden trying to tack too much to the center or even to the right is the huge amount of pressure to help people out. Trump really is hollowing out America.

So an awful lot of the fighting will not so much be left versus right - though republicans will do their best to sabotage everything, but it will be dealing with the details of putting policies together that MOSTLY accomplish their goals while minimizing chances at corruption. Business that work to make things better for Americans, INCLUDING MIDDLE CLASS AND WORKING CLASS AMERICANS, need to be included in the conversations, and companies fighting against these things need to be run over, with extra steps taken to prevent them from using loopholes for their own purposes.

Those battles will be hard fought, but they should absolutely be deferred until after Trump is out. Well except for the Black Lives Matters battles. We need to fight those battles hard every step of the way.
