Just the idea of someone supporting medicare for all, claiming that 1000 dead per day is unavoidable, is absurd. If 1000 per day is what it is is, why care about Medicare for all? Why are those dead, not written of as... it is what it is... what is the point, if 1000 per day, is unavoidable.

Oh it's very simple: they don't care about people. If they did they wouldn't be willing to let other people suffer and die because "those Democrats need to be taught a lesson!" The Democrats will do just fine without their support. The average American, however, if subjected to another 4 years of Trump rolling back regulations and installing even more "conservative" judges that will likely rule against things like M4A and free college? Nope.

Sacrificing yourself for a cause is one thing, sacrificing others for your own sake is just murder.

If there is any group of the eligible voting population that deserves a good scolding, it's the non-voting population. Countries that have higher election turnouts have higher quality government. Non-voters are a major reason people like Trump win nominations and are elected to office.

It's treated as a national holiday, everyone gets the day off and you could literally just go vote for a ham sandwich if you wanted, but you must vote. Afterwards at many polling stations you can stick around for something off the grill; it's a very social picnic-y atmosphere.

Trump, Ivanka donated to Kamala Harris campaign in California

President Trump and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, each donated to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) when Harris was campaigning for California attorney general years ago, The Sacramento Bee reported Monday.

The newspaper reported that the president gave Harris $5,000 in 2011 and another $1,000 in 2013 and Ivanka Trump donated $2,000 in 2014.

Harris was elected as California's attorney general in 2010 and won reelection in 2014. She was elected to her first term in the Senate in 2016 and announced earlier this year that she will seek the presidency in 2020.

Harris's campaign did not return a request for comment from The Hill. The Trump campaign and the White House also didn't immediately return requests for comment.

A spokesman for the Harris campaign told the Bee that Harris donated the $6,000 she received from President Trump to a nonprofit that advocates for the rights of Central Americans. The newspaper reported, however, that Harris didn't make that donation until 2015, one year after she won reelection as attorney general.

Relations between Harris and President Trump have since soured. The California senator has repeatedly criticized him, saying last week that she believes he is a racist.

“When you talk about him calling African countries s-hole countries, when you talk about him referring to immigrants as rapists and murderers, I don’t think you can reach any other conclusion," she said in an interview with The Root.

Absolutely. Mandatory voting and an Election holiday would go a long way towards improving the U.S. government. The only problem is that a lot of Americans think wearing a mask during a raging pandemic is an affront to their freedom, so the idea of being forced to vote will really bring out the spoiled toddler in them.

Yep, though the fine, I feel, is too small. I think it's something like 30-50 Australian dollars, but I could be wrong. Either way it's a much better system in my opinion, though of course if they tried that in the States there would be an outcry of "MUH FREEDOM!" because heaven forbid people be dragged away from their reality TV programs to perform a civic duty.

Kamala Harris Releases Healthcare Plan Calling for Privatization of Medicare (Remember last year?)

Ahead of the debates, California Senator Kamala Harris has released her healthcare proposal, which would allow individuals to buy into Medicare and slowly expand the system over 10 years. Her plan would keep private insurance in the marketplace but require that those plans adhere to standards and costs set by Medicare.

Bernie Sanders’s campaign quickly slammed Harris’s plan, saying it is “centered around privatizing Medicare, enriching insurance executives and introducing more corporate greed and profiteering into the Medicare system.” Bernie Sanders is calling for a single healthcare system, run by the government, that would essentially do away with private insurers.

Australia has majority-preferential instant-runoff voting in single-member seats to elect the lower house, the House of Representatives, and the use of the single transferable vote proportional representation system to elect the upper house, the Senate.

People not voting is itself a statement of preference, I.E. "These candidates aren't worth it."
