My take:
If the idea was to trip up Biden - mission accomplished.
If the idea was the show Trump as the exact same bully with no substance like always? - mission accomplished.
Person who needed to gain voters based on performance: Trump.
Person who likely gained voters for tonight's performance: Probably no one.

I really hope further debates include an off button for mics and far stronger moderation. I could only watch this in burst, it was just a total shitshow and while Biden appeared soft in places, Trump sounded like Alex Jones for half his speaking time and spent the other half constantly interrupting so his base would cheer on his ass. The experience was about as miserable as American politics are at the federal level, all things considered.

Expectations for Biden were low imho, but he was above that. Which is a minor win in my books. Trump just seemed deranged, always talking over. Which might seem like a win for his supporters, but it's not great for people he wants to win over.

Joe Biden's biggest fault tonight was not looking directly at Trump. It displays nervousness and perhaps even fear. His second was not dropping the political correctness. He gave two things for the Republican party to ride upon day and night until the 13th.
