When Trump said something about socialist healthcare like Sanders (i forget the exact wording, it was too much of a clusterfuck) and Biden responded with "I beat Sanders by a lot" my first thought was just "uh oh" because I honestly think that's one way he can lose. Just getting shit turnout from the progressives. He stopped short of saying more but even just that quick comment read a lot of "I won so it doesn't matter what he thinks" when he does need the lefts vote as well, not just the people more towards the center.

In fairness, Pfizer has been saying for a while now that they think they'll be able to go for approval in October. So, yknow, Trump himself might be weeks away from getting a vaccine because I'm sure that shit goes to "important" people first, but the average person won't see it until early 2021 most likely.

Again, Donald Trump was handed the most softball challenge a president can ever face in their lifetime - being asked to say "White supremacy is bad." on national TV...

    AND HE FUCKING BLEW IT

I cannot get over how jaw dropping this is. This proves every one of the earlier criticisms about his failure to directly condemn white supremacists after Charlottesville to be 100% accurate.

Donald Trump was given a softball opportunity to declare that he was not a white supremacist president.

Donald Trump is a white supremacist president.

My utter shame in many of my fellow Americans has never been so deep.
    Pretty much agree with this.

I think that Trump knows deep within that part of his strongest base are the white supremacists and he doesn't want to piss them off.

I don't know how this could be at all surprising or newsworthy. When he did it in 2017 it was, but not now. Did you not realize any of this then? How could you not?

Whenever I'm in a discussion with people about racism stuff, I usually bring up how many of the folks I grew up around (including family) in the southeast would love to go back to pre civil rights times when "blacks knew their place". I honestly don't think people take me seriously on that.

Obviously not all conservatives or southerners think that way, but a surprisingly large number do. This isn't some joke. While I think this kind of mentality is fading over time, it sure as hell isn't gone. A black guy being president really riled them up.

Trump knows they're part of his base. Apparently Santorum is aware of this also.

Brit here waking up to the aftermath of the 'debate'. I feel sorry for the poor leadership in both our countries, but seeing Trump's refusals to condemn white supremacy and commit to a peaceful transition of power if he loses was absolutely appalling. And one of the worst things is that's not even the headline story - most outlets are running with Biden telling Trump to shut up, as if that's somehow equally as important a thing to inform us about.

Well, if having a buffoon in the WH wasn't dangerous, i'd say that Biden's remark perfectly encapsulated what one's response to such loonies ought to be:

    "Will you shut up, man?"

Joe Biden deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for not marching across the stage and knocking Trump out after Trump disrespected Beau Biden.

Yep, to rational people he blew a softball question.

Unfortunately to his base and more specifically the Proud Boys he backed and energized them.

Hell what's worse is Trump will take credit for saying he doesn't support white supremacists while giving them a long knowing wink of support while fear mongering ANITFA in the same breath.

Heck, if not Trump's horrendous COVID-19 failure, he'd likely sink Biden too. Trump really fucked it up bad in 2020, all the noise before that is nowhere near the monumental failure of response to coronavirus.
Sanders proposals in the context of american history and international politics do not even qualify as liberal. Chomsky described him as an old-school republican. To describe him as a hardliner is accurate only in the sense that he had a hardline on taking corporate bribes. I struggle to understand the depth of ignorance that causes you to believe Sanders was in any way a hardliner.

Sanders would have won easily against Trump. He polled better consistently than any other politician in America for most of the last four years nationally. His problem was solely that of winning the primary.

This debate holy shit what the actual fuck was what I just saw this was a train wreck with a plane crash concluding in a nuclear explosion. I feel really bad for whoever's job in the next debate is to get Trump to shut up, they should just cut off his mic.

Friend was having an argument on FB with someone who was denying Trump ever said that, despite it being on actual TV. Luckily someone clipped that bit on Youtube and that guy stopped responding, but still... just holy shit.
Just don't reply to me. Please. If you can help it.

Any one who participates in an illegal war deserves no respect, period. You people need to understand Iraq was a bad war that killed 100,000 innocent people and put the American people and everyone else in great danger by creating an incubator for ISIS. Had he lived he should have been sent to the Hague with everyone else who supported that invasion.

He should get one for being able to keep a train of thought with the idiot just yapping.

You people really need a better line of attack on Trump than "he's so uncouth". He is, but his fanbase actually like that and Biden isn't exactly eloquent or gentlemanly either.

Well, how about we talk about the fact that Trump couldn't actually finish a train of thought without changing the subject, even if he was the one who started said train. I swear he has ADD. He talks like someone who has it.

Trump having ADD would explain how his addiction to Adderall got started.

Let me just cut this short: you have no line of attack on a man who could be attacked on SO many issues. Because your candidate is just as bad. There are numerous instances of Biden behaving as badly as Trump did yesterday (google it). The same is true of almost everything negative you can say about Trump.

You chose to fight Trump by electing a candidate on Trump's own terms. You didn't have to do that. You could have elected someone who wasn't a shit version of Trump. The problem with electing a shit version of Trump to fight Trump is that Trump is the more appealing candidate to Trump supporters rather than the Trump low-fat substitute.

Roflmao you think Trump supporters can be convinced? These loons don't even exist in the same reality. We don't need to attack Trump he stood on stage and ask white supremacists to stand by to create havoc. Trump supporters have zero problem with him being openly racist.
