I said in another post somewhere that I don't really think there's such a thing as a single-issue voter. I think they're zero-issue voters, who will blindly vote based on party affiliation, and they use that single issue as a justification for their refusal to critically think about their vote and what it means.

Which is why, if their candidates bail on that one issue, they generally don't actually change their vote.

It's almost as good as the people who try to tone police with the threat of swing voting.

Let's also recall that at the time China was dealing with the virus, nothing was known of its transmission or much about its effects beyond the surface symptoms. China was reacting with no useful information to work from, so it shouldn't be that surprising that they made some guesses that turned out to be wrong, in the end.

The USA really doesn't have the same excuse, since those things were starting to be understood when the virus hit the USA in January, and certainly by February. This is why most other nations did fine in their responses, with a few exceptions like Spain and Italy that were swiftly corrected, though not before a lot of infection occurred. The USA basically never actually locked down in the way that was required to get a handle on this, which is why you never did.

Calling this the "China virus" is just a bullshit a propaganda move. China isn't responsible, particularly not for other nation's failure to take responsible measures to contain the pandemic.

Yup. That was what i was trying to cover in the veil of "this being a new virus". Probably patient 0 was infected in late october-late november of last year. The first signs of an outbreak of something would have been apparent just by last December. For them to correctly understand that it was in fact, a new strain of coronavirus, at least until mid-late December, where it would have already been spreading for at the very least a few weeks/a month. Add to that the bureaucracy of a government like the chinese one, the fear of not pissing off your superiors, by trying to coverup the outbreak with hopes of clamping it down before it was too late (it did not work). When the Chinese Higher ups knew what they were fighting (late december-early january) shit was hitting the fan either way, and they tried to report said info to the rest of the world (with some delay, lets be honest).

But the Orange in Chief did not listen.

I get that bangin out news stories can get pretty soulless and all, and I know in my own job I'm a fan of a cringe-inducing pun but like...good lord this is dreadful already and I have never been happier knowing that in 6 hours this will be a long forgotten relic of most of the news cycle. Probably after Trump tries to tweet at the Pope for being mean to Mike Pompeo or something.

The fly is an amusing sidebar to tonight, but it did remind me about something -

InfoWars radio show host and Trump supporter Alex Jones unleashed the diatribe on Monday, saying that Obama and the Clintons were demons, citing "high-up folks."

"I'm never a lesser-of-two-evils person, but with Hillary, there's not even the same universe," Jones said. "She is an abject, psychopathic, demon from hell that as soon as she gets into power is going to try to destroy the planet."

He also said there are "dozens of videos and photos of Obama having flies land on him indoors, at all times of year, and he'll be next to a hundred people and no one has flies land on them."

I wonder if anyone else had a fly land on them in that debate room? Don't think there were quite 100 people in there, but there were a fair number. Alex Jones should look into this.

Harris is definitely not Kane. Admittedly I am biased toward Harris. However, I don't think either made any major mistakes. The fly is another proof that a greater force has it against Trump/Pence. There couldn't have been a more perfect meme.

I love Mayor Pete. I would have voted for him quite happily.

He's very easy to listen to, but he's an empty suit. He was an employee for McKinsey & Company for three years, and that company is everything you should hate about capitalist corporate abuses. They were tangentially behind Enron, were a big player behind the 2008 financial crisis, have had multiple involvements in predatory medical companies and practices, have done plenty of business with dictators in supporting their regimes, and so on.

Buttigieg may not be Dracula, but he worked for Dracula for years and got along well with him. He's clearly well-trained in how to frame things in the best possible light, but that's McKinsey's whole role as a consultancy firm, so that's not surprising. Once you dig beneath that, you don't find much.
