It's absolutely fine to have Destruction as a direct damage spec for warlocks and it should be preserved that way instead of turning it back to Cataclysm shitshow with random ass abilities all across the spellbook.
wrath/cata destro was also a nuke spec, what are you talking about? incinerate, conflag, chaos bolt were all doing significantly more damage than most affliction spells besides shadow bolt. In cata you also had soulburn/soulfire combo

you just had dots on top of it also, but they weren't doing as much damage as affliction dots obviously.

i'd absolutely love for destruction to return more to wrath style. It was much better.. both rotationally and in general

    I mean, was it though?

You had 3 DoTs: Immolation, Corruption and Doom/Agony.
    You had your Pet.
You had your Soulflire Buff to keep up.
And you casted Chaosbolt every 30 seconds or so and it did almost no damage.
Rest of the time you circled through combustion/Incinerate or used Shadowbolt, depends on Patch.
Oh, and it was optimal to stand in melee for shadowflame damage (which is also a kind of DoT).
And your cooldown buffed 3 spells every 2 minutes.

So I'd argue that Cata Destruction was in fact NOT a nuking spec at all, because your damage was divided between your Pet, DoTs and filler Spell, you had no nuke spell at all, besides Soulfire to keep up a damage buff every 20 seconds.

OT: Even IF shadowbolt returns for Destruction, there won't be a mechanical difference. Both are just filler spells with different visuals, it won't change your gameplay at all.

in cata incinerate and conflagrate were 50% of your damage.. sure chaos bolt wasn't hitting for insane numbers, but it was still considerable amount, and in PvP it was ignoring shields. And besides immolate your dots weren't really doing that much damage

in wrath they were doing even more damage comparatively to your hp.. like in wrath in pvp incenerate/conflag combo could deal up to 70% of your target health even if they had decent health pool and decent resilience

so it definitely was a nuking spec, it just had more to it than 1 spell doing all the damage

Chaos Bolt in Cata was effectively slightly higher damage Incinerate on CD with rather useless properties for raiding.

Other than that Cataclysm Destruction was a shitty mess of a spec as I told and one previous poster elaborated. No need to try and sell some stories here.

Sooo, incinerate and Combustion are "Nukes"? A spec, that uses their nuke as a filler is really something.
By definition nuke specs have to have a nuke phase and a recharge/down phase, else there would be no "nuke". You can't nuke all the time, thus Cata Destru was not a nuke spec by definiton.
