This is, sadly true for the most part. Lets look at Ohio for example, of the protests and violence which has happened here the last couple months, have happened in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo. All of them have Democrat mayors. While they have not reached the degree of many other large Democrat controlled cities, that is mainly because we have a Republican Governor.

I am not saying all the violent protests and destruction of property have happened exclusively in Democrat controlled cities, but the large majority of them are Democrat controlled.

Indeed... why are former confederate states not having as many protests? lol

To be fait, showing that places with less black people, are not as engaged in Black Lives Mater, justifying the movement it self... is a bit nuanced. For a party that believes more arrests of a demographic, means a genetic predisposition to crime, it’s par for the course.

GOP governors have a long, long history of creating legislation that inhibits cities bylaws. Not much a Dem mayor can do when the governor gives you the middle finger.

Fun fact: This isn't true. Surprising, I know.

Cleveland's mayor, Frank Jackson, is not a democrat, because Cleveland doesn't allow political parties for City races. The current mayor has been in City politics his whole career, and has never been part of a political party. So you might label him a democrat, because it suits your purposes, but he isn't one.

The others are all democrat, but you also listed every single major city in Ohio. Perhaps you could point to some Republican led city as an example of what is proper? Because the fact that cities tend to be democratic means that you always shift the blame to city government when it suits you. The Governor is Republican in both Ohio and Georgia, how is it not his fault?

The President of the United States is a Republican, and he has been actively making the situation worse, how is it not his fault? It is amazing how impotent you believe your own side to be.

What can a lowly President hope to accomplish against the might of a Mayor?

You guys know that shootings are up across the nation and shootings were actually doubled in MARCH after major layoffs and lockdowns. Before any of the protests.

The issue with shootings isn’t about protests. Are any of you thinking??

This includes lily white low crime areas.

That’s ironic considering democrats have historically been the party of racism with presidents like Franklin Pierce who enforced the Fugitive Slave Act, and opposed abolitionist movements. Andrew Jackson who opposed abolitionism and is known for the Trail of Tears. Woodrow Wilson who allowed his cabinet members to segregate their departments. And of just recently Pelosi and Schumer wore Kente cloth scarves which have ties to the West-African slave trade.

8-year-old shot to death during violent night in Atlanta

For those unaware, last month in Atlanta there was a case of the police shooting and killing Rayshard Brooks (the officers in question have since been fired, charged with murder, and the police chief has resigned). On top of people in the city already protesting in wake of George Floyd's murder, this shooting of Rayshard Brooks ignited the city into even more chaos. The circumstances as to the what, when, where, and why of this shooting is still being talked about so here is an article for those who want to read up on it.

Atlanta is seeing nightly protests as many other cities around the nation are. Violence is escalating nightly and now, seemingly, those who come off either as being protestors and/or rioters are ramping up with shootings like this.

EDIT: I'm not going to sit here and ask "what can be done?" because I don't think there is one solution to fix all. But at which point does a community on any scale (small town, large city) have to be broken down completely before being able to stabilize?

Are we going to start seeing more communities/towns/cities begin tearing themselves apart more? It seems that violence is starting to increase on all fronts.
Tear it all down and rebuild it with everyone in mind this time.

I know it's already pretty well known that the parties basically flipped, but as a reminder.

Hardly a surprise something like this happened and will continue to happen, especially given how those morons are going around armed.
    That mayor is a travesty.
Jesus the irony, the whole point of the protest is that people are making up excuses, condoning and endorsing lawlessness, and irresponsibility but in favour of the police. If the police are demoralized because people have the gull to tell them to stop murdering unarmed people or that there should be basic accountability then they shouldn’t be police.

Your delusional if you think that letting the military deal with it would end protest in one day sure it might stop a protest for A DAY but it would only ignite and spread protest further after that.

And yet, the Southern Strategy was a real thing. Democrats used to be the conservatives, until Nixon and Reagan pandered to the racists ion the South.

Just look at the voting records of those states, and it's damn clear.

Well it was really prior to that, Lyndon Johnson betrayed the south by enforcing desegregation. Not that Johnson was personally invested in it, but he knew which way history was going, so he drove it through over the screaming of Southern Democrats. Nixon and Reagan jumped on the opportunity to peal the south away from the democrats by adding the racist, conservative wing of the democrats to the Republicans.

The Republicans absolutely used to be the good guys, they were historically the side that stood up for minorities, immigrants, and labor. They championed conservation efforts, built the national parks, and built the US regulatory framework to slow corporate abuses. However, that all changed, and they now stand for the opposite of all those things.

Disinformation outlets like Breitbart and Alex Jones are not manned by journalists, sorry. You are welcome to consult any reputable dictionary of what qualifies as an actual journalist.

Deepstate, you know, the one that somehow keeps a Republican Senate from enacting the meaningfullest and greatiest laws while also keeps losing elections and can't do anything against a Republican Senate when a Democrat is President.

The obvious choice, the one most people, including BLM, are going for, is to have accountability among our police forces.

Police officer kills someone, there needs to be an inquiry, no matter the situation. If it was in self defense, then okay, that's acceptable. If not, then press murder charges and all that jazz.

Why are conservatives so obsessed with the behavior of democrats over a century or more in the past?

Yes, we get that the Confederate states were mostly democrats
Yes, we get that the KKK was founded by democrats

But WHO GIVES A SHIT? It was one hundred fucking years ago or more. Both parties have changed, both parties are radically different than what they were 100+ years ago.

Jesus fucking Christ, so sick of people acting like the sins of a hundred years past are still relevant to today.

I’m more concerned with what racist policies and things the parties have done in recent history (“they’re all rapists,” the GOP’s efforts to disenfranchise minorities) than what the Democratic Party did over 70+ years ago.

As for democrats wearing kente cloth... I, frankly, don’t think your opinions on historical garment assessment are worth a rat’s ass, so I’m going to count that as... an utterly meaningless bit of false outrage.
