Too much time-gated, rental powers

I am itching to play some WoW (still havent purchased BfA, the first expansion I didn't play. Been playing for 12 years, steady).

Everytime I think about buying BfA and playing WoW I start thinking about all of time-gated grinds. The worst part is, by the time I finish all of these grinds to even begin to compete it's all going to be erased.
Sucks, this game is in such an awkward state. In previous expansions you could catch up and play some what quickly. Now, I need rank 3 Essences, lvl 15 Cloak (my friend says this is the biggest as Corruptions increase DPS by insane amounts (20%?)), Specific Azerite traits.

Oh well, I can wait another 6 months, sucks though.

Corruptions being 20%? That would be nice. Corruptions (TD) account for over 50% of my damage done in M+ ....
I imagine it's the same shit with infinite stars for single target

You will not like how time-gated Torghast legendary stuffs and Covenant progress is. After all, the devs who made Battle for Azeroth are the ones working on Shadowlands.

Torghast has been well received so far & the Alpha discussion thread seems positive. You seem like you just want everyone to hate WoW and be as miserable as you are lmao.

OT: I'd definitely wait until Shadowlands or close to it to jump back in. There's a good bit of catch up mechanics implemented but imo it's not going to feel enjoyable for you until everything is back to square one and everybody is progressing together

We know next to nothing about the reward structure yet, which is going to be extremely important for determining whether Torghast is good or not.

only bads useing dps curruptions we good players swiched to stat amp months ago cuz the kill times are way to fast and adds on hive/vex dying in 3 secs so yea nothing changes for us we just lose 15% crit/haste/mastery but those 5/12 mythic animals and hc radiers with 10 mins kill times will cry indeed

This whole “rental power” issue.... people are completely blowing this out of proportion. It’s not a big deal, the game changes every expansion, it’s how it’s been for over a decade. This is nothing new.

best part really, removing the reliance on automatic damage will begin raising the skill-ceiling and allowing people to distinct performance with skill rather them luck.

The game practically throws loot at you. I spend far more time farming mounts than I do maintaining my neck/cloak/essences/azerite. This stuff just happens if you do content. You're planning to do content right?

That's litteral nonsense. You can't have "fun" with your buddies if you are a dead weight. And if his friends played BfA and he didn't, he can't catch up to their level. That's just fact.

Being a dead weight and geting carried in every single content is no fun, it's actually a waist of time for everyone.

Just throwing it out there: Not everybody sees the word "competitive" in the same light. If you consider R1 cloak and R1 Essences "competitive" good luck doing anything above a LFR, a couple M2-5s and maybe a normal mode raid. Is it enough to experience content? Sure. But is it enough to actually do competitive content which, in previous expansions, did not require nearly as much grinding? Probably not. It's been like this for awhile but in BfA the bar for new players to seeing actual endgame content is still prohibitively high for a lot of people.

As for whether that barrier to entry is healthy for the overall game -- I can't say definitively. On one hand, it sucks that returning players get a raw deal; but on the other, if catch up mechanics were made even more lucrative than they are already you'd have a lot of people who've already sunk in hundreds of hours into the game crying foul. It's a difficult equilibrium to balance and while I personally feel it's a bit too steep presently, I understand why it's the way it is. (BfA is in full content drought swing. It's likely new player generation is at an all-time low.)

Dogshit players will be dogshit. No more Titanforging or Corruption propping their DPS up because they won the lotto.



Then again - we still know nothing about the Legendary system. The crafting mats for them will probably be completely RNG. Again rewarding people who won the slot machines.

That amazing Legion Class Design they came up with was really able to stand on it's own two legs after the RENTAL POWERS of Artifacts and Legendaries were stripped away from it in BfA. Hey?

I have a friend still playing. He actually talked me out of coming back. Prior to 8.3 he was doing the opposite. In 8.2 he was actively pushing me to come back to arena with him and run some M+. But, he doesn't log in much anymore because he said PvP is not worth doing on any level. He sounds pretty frustrated.

I may come back anyway as there are a few mounts and Xmogs I still want and I could do that as well for alts. I really want that Skeletal horse from Kara 5 man. Maybe, I'll just skip the 120 gear and just mess around with older content.
