    Love this thread!

    Vanilla:
A benched guildmember organised a hell of a lot of horde players, and with the help of our rival Alliance guild they stood in line from AQ Entrance up to the Cenarion hold to cheer at us, after our C'thun server first.
Getting out ("guys, don't port away, leave by entrance"), that line of horde and alliance players cheering, server lagging, just after scoring that firstkill, big emotions, really!

    BC:
Playing Retri Pally on horde, going for a trial run with a new guild, getting their 'best damagedealer' Warlock to tears by outdpsing him (and getting weird looks from the rogue for having equiped some of his BiS gear). Guildinvite before end of raid.

    WotLK:
Completing hardmode mounts in Ulduar and ICC. Not only for doing them, but also for those really nice encounters and mechanics.

    Cata:
Levelling in Hyal. Raids were meh, not enough raidcontent (fast enough), guild disbanded, i paused playing.

    MoP:
    -missed-

    WoD:
Didn't get to raid, didn't do really much. Maybe getting both Azzinoth Glaives on my Warlock before finally getting that felhound staff :-p

    Legion:
Loved the DH intro quest series!
Back into raiding. Loved mage tower with DH and Disc Priest.
Even though we were really late, even for casuals standard, our KJ firstkill felt really good, with that rag-tag-group.

    BfA:
Sadly nothing really outstanding despite the hype for islands.

Vanilla: the night elf starting zone. Darnassus is a frigging "tree house on steroids", a childhood dream of mine at the time.

TBC: many that I knew didn't like it, but I really liked the Mt Hyjal raid, for the "returning to the final WC3 campaign fight" theme.

WotLK: Ulduar was grand! I liked many of the boss fights, there.

Cata: me innocently flying over the Burning Steppes to go Twilight Highlands (actual flying mount, not taxi) and Deathwing suddenly flying over the zone and going "HI PEEPS!!" all over everyone in the zone. (PS: for the first time only, though. Got old quick. But the first one was awesome.)

MoP: the pandaren storyline, music and environment.

WoD: it was... relatively short? I found myself with a lot of free time to dedicate to side projects. Does that count?

Legion: Mage Challenge towers. Also Suramar. I love Suramar. I wish it became a leveling zone, but alas.

BfA: ... Nothing comes to mind. I will give props to the idea behind Azerite gear, but I did not like the implementation.

TBC: Reaching 70 for the first time and everything really since it was my first MMO. Raiding Kara.

WotLK: Making a Warrior and see myself improve greatly in PvP in a short time. Raiding Naxx and Ulduar.

Cata: Exploring the world changes in 4.0.

MoP: Exploring Jade Forest I guess.

    WoD: Leveling in SMV.

Legion: Exploring and questing in Suramar.

BfA: Raiding was actually fun for me for some reason in this expansion.

Classic: Leveling like old times and exploring the old world again.

I like this. Interesting twist on the old "best expansion" trope.

Vanilla: When our guild first downed Ragnaros. We were all dead by the time Rags hit 1% except one badass Mage. He finished Rags off solo, and the entire Ventrillo channel erupted.
BC: The first several months sucked - the transition from 40 person raiding to 10 in Kara broke our guild, then my burnout caught up with me and I quit playing for a while. After I came back, my original guild of RL friends and coworkers reformed, and we raided Kara for a few months while waiting for Wrath.
Wrath: Wrathgate. Don't get me wrong, I loved a lot about the expansion (it's still my favorite), but that moment seeing the cinematic after a long and engaging questline (Ally side) was so impactful. And seeing the "death" of the Alliance hero of Vanilla (if you never played through the Masquerade quest in Vanilla and saw Bolvar's heroics, you missed out) really put a personal touch to the fight against Arthas.
Cataclysm: The Day I Met Deathwing. OK, this expansion sucked, and the things I was most excited about from it (old world flying, world revamp) turned out to not be as great as I had hoped. I appreciate flying in the old world now, but I'm one of the few who actually likes the first pass through an expansion being on the ground. Oh, and this was the second time I quit playing. It would not be the last.
MoP: Switching to a PVE server after hating my PVP server for... 7? years. I swapped at the end after everyone in my guild quit playing (including me), and I decided to come back to check out the Timeless Isle. I started up on a PVE server and absolutely loved the MoP version of Shadow Priest. When my friends came back for WoD, I was able to convince them to all swap to PVE.
WoD: Um... Full time PVE for the first time? Honestly, not much really excited me about this expansion.
Legion: Leveling in the pre-launch invasions. If Blizzard didn't want people to use this for leveling, the design was incredibly stupid. I leveled four characters to max, only doing invasions (after level 10). Who needed to quest when you got fully upgraded gear from invasions and a boat load of xp? I did enjoy the expansion, and it was the first one since Wrath in which I never once quit playing. That said, the addition of tokens was a game changer, and I haven't paid real money for an expansion or game time since.
BfA: Drustvar. The questing in this zone is really unique in WoW, and was incredibly interesting. Beyond that? Nothing. I really don't like this expansion. Despite having paid gametime (via tokens), I've still quit playing for months at a time. (OK, I found a way to get past the damn Blood Infusion quest in the Shadowmourne line solo and was able to finish that up without my MIA friends.)

In general I like the beginning of expansions most. There is still some magic at this point so the weaker parts of the xpac do not annoy me that much.

While I like the "most polished" feel that comes at the end of an expansion too, I am already too much into the stuff that comes with the next expansion.

This is true for me for all expansions except Vanilla. I loved Naxxramas and desperately wanted to grind the last two missing pieces of my t3. Hated the idea of an expansion and to lvlup again what would deny my hard item grind. Did not know it better at this point. When TBC came I was totally overwhelmed and had the time of my life.

    WotLK: leveling my first dk
    Cata: raiding dragonsoul
    MoP: Classes were fun
    WoD: questing experience
Legion: all class stories (orderhall etc)
    BfA: ...

  7. #67
TBC: Random bgs as a fresh nub.

WotLK: The story was great and raiding felt really good (even naxx as a fresh nub)

Cata: The early dungeons while they were hard and the raids until dragon soul were great.

MoP: Didn't touch (I'm told that this was the pinnacle of class design)

WoD: I only played a tiny bit of HFC and that felt great. (I'm told that pvp was in a very good spot and classes in general)

Legion: Nearly everything was great except the early legendary system, it was vastly improved around Nighthold release.

BfA: Everything is okay at best, it's essentially Legion 0.5. The worst part is class design.

Burning Crusade: Enjoying Hallow's End while snacking on candy corn.

Wrath: Weekends of "doing the thing" — dungeons, Wintergrasp, hub fun, raids.

Cataclysm: Helping take the reins of a guild emptied by the difficulty spike, and keepin' on.

    Mists: Here's a thousand words.

Warlords: Getting Herald of the Titans with guildies.

    BC - Karazhan, obviously.
    Wrath - Howling Fjord
Cataclysm - The Day Deathwing Came
MOP - lorewalker reputation + the tie-in short stories
Warlords - cutscene with Garrosh and Thrall
Legion - Everything. To pick one, Suramar.
BFA - the cinematics. To pick something explicitly ingame, the Alliance quest where you rescue civilians in Teldrassil.

Classic : I don't really remember much. was big WCIII fan kid and pretty much astonished with my bro, hearing about whole World of WCIII. we played on a private realm with our native community, had fun.
TBC : having a paladin in the Horde and having a Blood Elf. hearing about Kael'thas again, questing through cosmic land and actually being in a guild, doing pretty much dungeons.
Lich King - was absent. first actual girlfriend popped up and WoW was no longer a priority lol
Cata - broke up with girlfriend. a bombastic looking plate feet from Firelands. questing and daily questing and then raiding in DS every Wednesday. loved it
MoP - it was an adventure. amazing experience.
WoD - I felt like my character was on vacation.
Legion - now we're talking! Ashbringer! amazing experience in every zone. Argus and Argus And working on ressurecting Illidan. loved legion
BfA - i don't know man... im subbed...

TBC: Karazhan was my favorite place, i started during this time, leveling was awesome, everything felt like an adventure. Shaman was so awesome in this expansion, with dual wielding introduced.
WOTLK: ICC Killing lich king, also like dragonblight and all the other associated dungeons at ICC. Also like slme mini raids.
Cata: Legendary Daggers for sure and loved playing my druid even more during this time with the fire cat!!
MoP: loved all of it. Special cloak effects, just this feeling of playing in a happy place. Never realy felt down during this expansion, cool dungeons
    , classes were awesome.
Draenor: Amazing Raids, and some cool dungeons, thats about it.
Legion: favorite moment was when it ended, hated every second playing during this casino expansion.
Bfa: pretty much when sylvanas fucked herself. Other then that, its not much better then legion sadly..

Vanilla: Having an almost endless amount of time to play.

TBC: Kind of a bad time, had several guilds break up.

Wotlk: Ulduar, Realm First Lich King

    Cata: Casual fun, pvp.

MoP: Siege of Orgrimmar with old guildies and friends.

WoD: Tanaan PVP, raid sales with a great team.

Legion: Mage Tower. Absolutely loved this part of the game.

    BFA: Nothing, quit first patch.

I never realised that the location was Garadar. I agree, that is cool and well planned.

Vanilla: many, many amazing memories, but the most amazing one would be entering the Undercity, to find myself in the very place where Arthas killed his father. Also those echoes... Simply superb.

BC: questing in Eversong or Azuremyst. They are imo the best starting zones ever made - story, visuals, the amazing music all come together to create a fantastic experience. I still love them to this day. Also entering the Dark Portal, to find my freshly created BE laying foot in the zones depicted in the TFT "human" (actually BE) campaign. Good times

WotLK: Ulduar, without a doubt. I loved the hard modes, the variety of bosses and the cherry of the cake: the Lovecraftian last two bosses.

Cata: cheesing my way to Gladiator because casters were broken OP in PvP, especially mages

MoP: I've only played it in *censored* servers, but it has been enough to appreciate the awesome story (minus the "let's make Garry into Der Ork Hitler because FU" part). Dread Wastes may look like a dull zone, but I love the quests there.

WoD: HFC. One of the best raids ever made by Blizzard. I also liked a lot of the nods towards BC, even if cutting Farahlon/Netherstorm off (among many, MANY other things) felt particularly lame to me.

Legion: Suramar, and its associated dungeons and raid. CoS is cool, especially the bit when professions can be helpful, and NH is just awesome.

BfA: Zandalari trolls and KTs. Love the two races, they are one of the very few good things to come out of this otherwise horrible expansion.

Classic: Getting my Tiny Crimson Whelpling

BC:a tie between getting my first flying mount and clearing black temple for the first time.

WotLK: downing H25 LK for the first time, vent was going crazy, couldn't stop laughing. loved that expansion.

Catakinda fell off the wagon here with college and all) but I loved the questlines and the zones in this expansion, Uldum and the whole cat people guardians/evil genies Indiana Jones thing they had going on here was just perfect.

MoP:the art and design in general of this one almost made me forget of being trapped for 37 god damn minutes in that Alliance intro quest where you had to shoot a barrel of gun power on the horde ship to blow it up while 400 other people were trying to shoot it too on opening night.

WoD: The quests and finding scattered and hidden treasures were fun, but that's about it I don't like remembering this one.

Legion: The single smoothest launch I have ever been apart of which is everyone of them except classic. That and the little jolt of excitement everytime I got a legendary.

BFA: Drustvar is my favorite zone in the entire game, perfect blend of spooky and gothic horror.

  19. #79
Wrath: finishing Ulduar, finally, with my silly 10 man strict guild.
Cata: not playing most of it.
    MoP: TI opening
    WoD: leveling, then unsubbing
    Legion: guild raids during Nighthold.
    BfA: Watching the cinematics.

  20. #80
Easily the start of every expansion, leveling and gearing up in new content with everyone playing. It's all down hill from there.
