Movies or Films where the Prequel, Sequel or Reboot was better than the original?

Movies or Films where the Prequel, Sequel or Reboot was better than the original? Me and my wife enjoy 80 and 90's films, so we and a few friends came up with this challenge.

The best I could come up with so far:

    Jurassic World
    Batman Begins

(ok for this challenge, movies that exist in the same universe or timeline as another title count, for example John Hughes for Ferris Bueller's Fay Off Vs The Breakfast Club)
    Milli Vanilli, Bigger than Elvis

The Thing(1980) better than The Thing from another world.
The Fly(1986) better than the The Fly(1958)

One of the best remakes ever. So very well done.

I enjoyed The Thing-remake with Joel Edgerton better than I did the original. Probably due to effects having changed, and loving Mr. Edgerton.

True Grit. The remake featuring Jeff Bridges is superior in every single way to the previous.

Robocop, with Joel Kinnaman. I used to be a fangirl of the original and whilst I still enjoy its campy nature mixed with immense and serious violence, I prefer the approach that they took in the remake.

... Gonna have to think for a moment on other titles, can't remember any at the top of my head.

Terminator 2 is probably the most universally agreed-upon example of this.

If we are talking sequels then Aliens is one of the top sequels.
Dredd was better than Judge Dredd.
Ocean's Eleven is better than the original Ocean's Eleven.
Casino Royale is better than the 1967 version.

revenge of the sith, to me, is the best star wars film period. even the super cheesy moments can't tear that movie down.

2nd Mission Impossible was better than the first.

Thor: Ragnarok is the best of that series.

Logan is the best Wolverine movie and probably the best X-men movie.

Mad Max: Fury Road is best of that series.

Spider-Man 2 was better than either the 1st or 3rd entry.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is the best of that series.

Star Trek 2 (Wrath of Khan) is the best of that series.

Terminator 2 was the best of that series.

Do yourself a favor, and never admit that to anyone in public. Episode V was far, *far* superior.

The 80's reboot of Scarface with Al Pacino comes to mind.

The original Jurassic park is... so much better than Jurassic world. Better dialogue, better plot, better acted, better directed, better sets and, weirdly... yeah, better cgi. In 1993.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You’d have a better cinematic experience watching Jurassic park four times rather than any of its four sequels.

As for the subject at hand... reboot-wise, fury road is the best mad max film.

Prequel and sequel wise, People often say that The Godfather part 2 is better than the first... I’d say they’re about equal.

Many of the avengers movies (with the exception of iron man) have sequels better than their original debut film. Winter soldier is better than first avenger, ragnarok is better than Thor, etc.

I’d say rogue nation, ghost protocol and fallout were all solid films.

I’d say pretty much every episode of Star Wars was better than the prequels. Any of them.

    Yes, including the sequels.

If we didn’t have the narrative through line of knowing anakin was going to become Darth Vader... you’d sit through that and go “what the hell was that?”

All Episode 3 has going for it is one 15 minute fight on a lava planet. That’s it, and that’s all people remember beside the memes. One 15 minute cgi video game fight does not a compelling film make.

Ugh really you liked the new Jurassic World over the original, I know this exercise is subjective but give me some reasons on why please.

To contribute, idk only thing I can think of is two towers. Also been watching Cobra Kai and enjoying that continuation of the story so far, only half way through the first season.

Street Fighter 2 anime waay better than both live action movies

True Lies was better than la total

Aliens ...was honestly pretty equal to Alien especially if you ignore every other movie in the franchise

Fantastic 4 (2005) is miles better than the 1994 one....but both are shit

The very first post, saying Jurassic world is better than the original already made this a stupid thread.

I thought predator 2 was better than predator 1. I thought Aliens was better than Alien. Empire strikes back was better than Star Wars A New Hope.

Man remember when remakes and sequels actually make the franchise better. I miss those days.

As a kid I like Jurassic Park 2 better than 1. Haven't rewatched them to see if that's still the case.

I enjoyed Bladerunner 2049 a bit more than the original. Both great films just the original was a bit slower paced.
