    Horror Affectionados....Let's Talk

I did another topic looking for some decent Horror Movies that werent mainstream and found some pretty decent ones.

But I also checked a few out on my own and thought I'd make a thread on some personal Gems you have found.

Let's leave out the "Mainstream ones like Friday the 13th, Saw, Halloween, etc etc etc

I'm talking the ones like you find Lurking on TUBI or Amazon Prime in the back row......

Hell House LLC - Pretty decent. A little slow to start but picks up steam
Hell House 2 LLC - Not bad but 1 was definitely better. Takes place 8 years later
Hell House 3 LLC - Takes place 1 year after Part 2. A little better than 2 imo and has a "shocking" ending per se. Does bring closure to the Trilogy
Don't Blink - Not too shabby. Nothing REALLY scary but but did find people disappearing at pretty clever times
Grave Encounters - It starts a "little" slow but definitely picks up. I enjoyed it
Grave Encounters 2 - Kept me interested but but but did get a bit confusing to me. Did they ACTUALLY get out or were they in the building the entire time (hotel scene). I can understand to a point affecting the building but would be a bit confused to how to manipulate the outside world as such. Not a BAD flick
Driven - Not really scary but OMG the relationship between these 2 actors is amazing. No "creepy" demons to see but pretty good imo.
Judas Ghost - not bad. not bad at all in my opinion. About a Hall that has some secrets.......

The Witch is hands down my favorite horror film.

The horror genre is mostly shitty and cringy to watch. Jump scares being the worst

Enjoying horror is a bit like enjoying platekinis, you have to turn on your full on suspension of disbelief and be willing to indulge in some stupid shit. But worth.

Jumpscares have a place in constructing the overall horror experience. They're just bad when they get spammy or you have them before any threat has even been established.

    The House of the Devil
    Cant recommend enough.

I love horror films, books, and shows. Eat them up. I have only been scared like a handful of times in my entire life.

That line in The Witch sent a shiver through me that made my blood run cold. I literally mouthed, "Yes..." in the theater and instantly knew I had watched one of the best films I ever have seen. I have watched literally thousands of films.

A good portion of horror films are intended to be just fun flicks. It's rare that you get something like the aforementioned The Witch or Carpenter's The Thing. The genre itself is meant to titillate, in a manner of speaking, to be evocative. They can also be made cheaply, quickly, and don't require a lot of naturalistic reliability to invest you in the premise- you might find this style, "cringy", but from a film perspective this is not inherently bad.

    The VVitch was great.

    Also Hereditary - fantastic film.

I liked the Babadook... shrug? I guess it depends what kind of horror you're into.

LOL yea Fencers you did, just thought I'd start a thread to discuss the various different movies.

Im trying to keep this one on the "Lets meet at the garage and film a movie" section of the genre Ones that a lot of people will just pass on cause its buried deep in the "meh" part of the listings but turn out to be "holy hell this could be mainstream"

Just got done watching the Director's Cut of Hell House LLC....didn't miss much from the original release

I liked the Babadook... shrug? I guess it depends what kind of horror you're into.
When I did finally make it through it had a decent ending just couldn't get into it from the beginning . I was the same way with the little girl vampire one (forget the name I THINK it was Let me in but dont quote me). Was ho-hum to be until almost the end when it got really good.

ALmost free from Covid thankfully :P

Is there an actual whole list somewhere like Pasetebin? Good, "non-mainstream" horror movies are so hard to pinpoint and remember. I've heard about The Witch so many times but I always forget, there's so many now because of streaming.

I'm reminded of the GEICO commercial- if you're in a horror movie, you make bad decisions; it's what you do.

The Outpost movies are pretty good since you can never go wrong with Nazi zombies.

There's only one type of movie that will honestly affect me, and it's not the usual horror movie. I've fallen asleep during some intense horror movies.

    But alien abduction movies....oooh boy.

The doorway scene in Communion scarred me, lol.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind has some scary elements.
Including abductions. (In one sequence it's a small boy)
