I read that differently I guess. As if he implied, "Your most important part in your upgrade is the motherboard, followed by...."

its obvious when building a computer that you need all 3 of those parts to do anything at all. but those are the priority given.

If he buys a new MOBO as you suggest, then what is he supposed to do with that? Keep it in a closet? Because he can't use it
Same with when he gets a CPU. CPU+MOBO is still literally unusable without RAM.

He needs to get them at the same time, otherwise he just has a new paper weight
