Death Knights were created by the Lich King with the sole purpose of bringing destruction and death where ever they go.
    Garrosh was right.

Lore-wise, I think a Death Knight is probably going be your most dangerous Tank. Towering juggernauts in plate, sadistic and able to steal life essence as well spreading plagues, striking at opponents with giant vampiric runeblades? Definitely the most offense-minded of the lot when it comes to Tanking. Second place probably goes to the Demon Hunter who boasts a lot of offensive capacities even in Vengeance spec, and can also become a giant demon periodically.

Surely as far as damage on tanks go, it's gotta to be the demon hunter

    1. Fel is the most destructive force of the lot - corrupting and obliterating titans etc , sure void and death are powerful - everything is powerful in its own quarter and can be very effecitve at destroying, but that's Fel's forte, and they use A LOT of that - they are magical tank with the highest emphasis on magic.

Just compare their attacks - all of them are magical and fel woven sepll

    2. Demon form is the most powerful.. it enhances an already very deadly combatant (no one doubts the average demon hunter is a highly specialised melee and spell combatant, at the highest level - all round, while all the others can reach similar levels, they have many lower skilled in their ranks. Especially true for Druids, Palas and in particular WArriors and monks. DKs are people with talent ARthas started training, new ones can grow into.

Point is the DH in normal form is already super deadly, then add an enhanced demon on top of that. The flipside is that he is only in that form temporary, but while in it, he is far above the others, the druid is enhanced ofc in bear form and maybe on average it evens out as he is in that state all the time, but offensively? not to the extent of the Demon hunter. Also the magic bear is more powerful at base than a humanoid in plate - but claws versus steal?

    3. Remember DHs use steal, those glaives are like dual wield 2H weapons, with fel wielded in cooncert. Add to that Demons are super enhanced, the ones the power of fel enhances a normal mortal.

    4. On defense, I wouldn't rate the Demon hunter the highest, yes he uses magic and dodging very highly for defense, but he's not the highest.

Finally on combining the two, offensive and defensive, I would put the DK ahead, cos of his higher defense and capability with death, which the demon hunter lacks, but for pure offensive, surely the demon hunter is 1

    Offensive:

    1. DH
    2. DK
    3. Bear
    4. Warrior
    5. Pala
    6. Monk

    Defensive
    1. Pala
    2. DK
    3. Bear
    4. DH
    5. Warrior
    6. Monk

    Overall
    1. DK
    2. DH
    3. Bear
    4. Pala
    5. Warrior
    6. Monk

Demon hunters. Legion presented them as insanely skilled and capable, we don't really get the same feeling from the "generic" death knights.

Toss up between DH and DK .

This is my take on the matter first the ranking, lets rember that this is from a pure lore stand point
the list is as followers: druid> demon hunters> death knights> monk>paladin>warrior.
Op there is a error in the listing, you list all the diffrent classes, but you discriminat against the druid by just saying bear. Why dose this matter, well this is a pure lore stand point so if we are going from lore. A druid is not just a bear he has cat form, balance form and healer form, a druid is a raid team in themselvs, they can heal range dps and sneak around, and even fly without the need of a mount. if we are going by this druid Blowes all the other tanks out the water

If this game had realistic graphics and actually animated damage and spell effects, Blood DKs would be pretty damn scary if you ask me. Here's a steel-clad undead warrior who literally needs to kill people painfully to sustain himself, so don't expect to die quick. He has a giant, horribly serrated runeblade to kill you with, but that's just the start; he also makes worms burrow out of your flesh, makes your comrade's corpses explode on command, directly drinks your blood from a distance when he doesn't just boil it inside your body (I mean, holy shit that must be painful) and if you even manage to land a hit, all he has to do is take a swipe at something and heal himself right back up with the target's blood as fuel, while not feeling an iota of pain. Good thing morale damage isn't modeled in this game, these guys sound far more terrifying than some ponce in shiny armor smiting people for justice and such or even a tattoed elf that can turn into a big demon and burninate stuff.

Death Knights. Any other answer is wrong. DKs were already champions in life and they became even more powerful when they were raised into undeath. Plus, I think death knights had to defeat other death knights as a part of their initiation, so the current members of the Ebon Blade are the best of the best. On top of all that, the saronite armor they wear can deflect spells. The average DK is better than the average warrior, paladin, monk, or druid, and demon hunters are powerful but they usually don't wear a lot of armor, which would put them at a disadvantage against death knights, who can also just negate their fel magic with their armor and anti-magic barriers.

Interesting point of view. Hadn't factored that in for druids. Even though i was just focusing on the guardian spec. They are a bit weird druids, cos in order to damage more and heal, they have t change forms, and are not the padded tanks the other can be, therefore become a lot more vulnerable.

I don't think their damage rises because of that either, although from a balancing point it should. In-game do bear druids purely dpsing in feral or balance affinities actually end up able to do more damage than the other tank specs? From a lore point of view they would be a tank if they shift. But also from a lore point of view a bear does serious damage and you shouldn't need to go to a cat to do damage.

But then fighting is both offensive and defensive, so the splitting of damage between tank spec and non tank spec is really arbitrary. It's more equipment change, as you'd probably do more damage with a heavier weapon like a 2H or dual wielding than you would do with a sword and shield, and that would be the only difference. So technically, DKs and DHs alone because of their 2H and dual wield would be higher up than pala/warrior with tank and shield.

I still think steel > claws, but the strength and power of a bear or demon in an intelligent mind's hands?? Would be a level of power that's also pretty big, not to mention adding

idk, i think the OP question is in start incorrectly phrased..... with the "lore wise" or "lore perspective"

cuz I would consider "lore wise" tank only those who can wear a shield, or druid in their Bear form which is a symbolic of tough animal that can take a beating.

all other dual wielding classes like DH, DK and Monk are not true tanks "lore wise"..... they are fel warriors, death warriors and martial art warriors...... that just happens to have a Tank spec "game wise".

With how easily we've beaten these "terrifyingly strong otherworldly beings" such as fel users from the Legion and necromancers from the Scourge, I would have to say that demon hunters and death knights only sound scary, but really aren't. One must simply wait for winter to come and the bears will go into hibernation. Since monks are a joke/meme of a class, that leaves paladins and warriors. While warriors can very likely hit you harder and batter you around with their shield, paladins do holy damage, which isn't mitigated by armor and seems to roflpwn all the forces of darkness in existence. So I have to give it to paladin. Everything that is pure, vanilla, and boring rules in this game and tank power is no exception.
