Maybe, strategy has made quite a bit return the last years especially with the popularity of turn based i don't see a RTS happening but could be wrong.

Classic RPG formats as seen with Divinity also have made a return in case world building is more their thing, plenty of roads to take but indeed i don't see a MMO happening too much of a risk too large of an upfront investment needed. I mean if i look at crowfall now good intentions and all but it shows how complex a MMO really is.

    This isnt true.
Activision is the partent company with a boatload of companys under the Activision Umbrella.

Activision's portfolio includes some of the most iconic franchises in all of entertainment, developed by the incredibly talented teams at Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, King Digital Entertainment, and our independent studios, including Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, Toys for Bob, Treyarch, and Vicarious Visions.

    1)With what money ?
    2)Why would Activision-Blizzard split themselves ?

Activision and blizzard are separate divisions under the parent company, activision-blizzard. Vivendi games retained a majority control after the merger but activision CEO was made CEO of the parent company.

I am not saying games like MMO's are dying i am stating that they don't warrant that much of high investments any more unless the format changes quite drastically Warframe is a good example of that and all sandbox mmo's that went ended with a small population also. What i am saying is that the online market since a few years have drastically changed as how people play games have changed.

I wouldn't call millions niche it was rather large for quite some time in comparison to overall online gaming and activity in general. Other formats have just taken it over now and sure compared to Fortnite and others it's fairly niche.

My point in case i was not clear, i don't see gaming companies like that launching an MMO to break through in the gaming industry. Also why would they want to make an MMO after almost working exclusively on one for over a decade.
Doomsayser never know what they are talking about. That was my point.

I would considering the only MMOs to achieve a million concurrent subs/players outside of WoW were huge established franchises with 2 or more decades of IPs and sold 10s of millions of games to billions of movies. Thise being STO, FF14, and ESO. No other payed MMO has come close, and even those I listed are suspect, since most of the time they list total accounts instead of active players, SE for the longest time announced total players across all of its MMOs and was barely at 1M. Wildstar was there for a second, but they preyed on the old school WoW player which was 10s of millions of potential players.

So yes, remove WoW from existence and what you have left is a niche genre that may not be around to have had the 100s in development in the aughts.

I doubt Dreamwave is or will be working on an MMO. It's too much upfront cost for a game that takes so long to develop. I'm sure it may be similar to the early Blizzard days. They'll make games in genres they love playing. Have a distinct art direction, easy to play and accessible to anyone. Will they succeed? Who knows. Past success is no guarantee of future success. Maybe they'll make a modern RTS that knocks the socks off of everyone and revitalizes it genre and changes people perception of it.

The only thing Dreamhaven has going for it right now is the current hype, which just like with Bonfire will die down when you hear fuck all for years to come.

Maybe 10 years from now they'll release something which most likely won't be a MMO anyway.
I think it was premature to say anything about Dreamhaven until they had something to show for it. What was the purpose of getting hype now and losing momentum?

Well seeing as how they're a newborn company I don't see them having enough money to buy Blizzard anytime soon. I can't imagine how much money was required just to make Dreamhaven a thing. Activision has themselves one of the biggest if not THE biggest cash cows in the gaming industry. They're not going to let go of Blizzard that easily.

Zero. Blizzard is worth to much for anyone to feasibly buy without Activision being split up to other bidders. Mr. Morhaime, and the other founders, sold to a parent company long before their parent company merged with Activision. And if you believe the reports Mr. Morhaime was also the one who helped convince Mr. Kotick to give up control of Activision to Vivendi/SA in order to use the presence Blizzard had in China.

Why would they? All the IPs have been ran in to the ground except for Star Craft.

Dreamhaven is no where near the giant corporation EA, Ubi and Acti-Blizz are. They only just started. They might as well be an indy company. :P

    What benefit would there be?

The Blizzard franchises (and everything they spawned) are basically exhausted, the story of their universes is told. At least when it comes to Warcraft, Starcraft and - if we're honest - Diablo.
Of course you could tinker with parallel universes or hit the reset button in some other fashion, but without a spike in technology that could bring a whole new dynamic (like VR or what not) I don't see how you could revitalize them.

That said, I think their current path is is the most promising. Create a good RTS, establishing a new universe and characters and then go from there.

I get the wish of seeing a beloved IP thriving under new-old-management. But I'm afraid that is quite unlikely. And if it were to happen, it would be at least 5-10 years down the line. And even if it were to happen, nothing guarantees that it would be better on their watch.
