I mean, they basically only do this because they know that some people will say "Look, you even get it for free if you're subscribed" as if this would somehow change the fact that we're talking about "micro"transactions in a game that already costs 15$/14€ a month and 40€ every two years. After the ""free"" period it will be just another store-exclusive item with significantly higher production value than most of the items you can actually obtain within the game. Doesn't really create the best incentives for Blizzard but they'll fucking do it as long as enough clowns buy this shit.

Look at it this way. Blizzard, as a company, needs to make a profit. Not JUST a profit, but a larger profit every quarter. Now, one way they can do that is by expanding a system of optional microtransactions. Another way is by selling out more, making a desperate attempt and increasing the game's sales and subscriptions by pandering and appealing to the common denominator. The more these alternative measures succeed, the less 'safe' the development team needs to be to secure that profit. This leads to more artistic freedom and creative control for the dev team.

Cool, it's nice to be rewarded for being smart enough to save money on a product I'll be paying for anyway. Not the best xmog in the world, but I'm encouraged by the fact that maybe they'll be adding more to the store in the near future. I have no problem with cosmetic items being offered on an in-game shop so long as that's not the only way to acquire nice stuff. Spending money on things that you enjoy is the best use of money imaginable.

A new transmog is available in the in-game store called Sprite Darter's Wings. This 8-piece set is available with the purchase of a 6-month subscription to WoW (most likely will also be given to those who currently have a 6-month sub). You can also purchase it separately in a new store tab called Transmogs.

I have no issues with this yet but the new transmog tab in the shop is a bit concerning. I feel that the quality of armor sets obtainable in games always suffers when companies start to sell costumes etc.

I don't think it'll be as excessive as you believe. Look at literally anything else in the store: I'd rather my in-game Glacial Tidestorm or Hivemind mount over a shop mount (of which I own most). I'd rather any number of battle pets over the ones in the store (as the store ones aren't anything great). I highly doubt they're going to make the good stuff only (or even mostly) in the shop. If it's anything like mounts, pets, etc, it'll be years before they even have six outfits .. and they'll probably be hit or miss.

pathetic. have been playing this game since day one and my sub is finishing in 38 hours.
THis is the first time I cancelled my 1 month sub of all these years.

btw since I paid monthly for 16 years now? - I should be the most deserving to get any kind of stuff in game.

I'm not a fan of the game shop on a subscription-based game, but if Blizzard is going to go full greedy, I hope they put the Brutosaur mount model on the shop. It's about the only mount in the entire game I'd spend actual cash shop level money on.
