Next headline, "Blizzard entertainment leaves Blizzard entertainment to form new company: Blizzard entertainment"

I think it is more they got bored of retirement but didnt want to go back to a regular job working for someone else. Not usually a spite thing or sign of doom, pretty common.

I'm pretty sure Metzen is set for life. Him starting his own table top board game company seems like he's pursuing a passion project more than a sign of some form of "Blizzard exodus" as the resident galaxy brains on this forum will portend.

Isn't starting a company focused solely on tabletop games a bit of a risky maneuver in this day and age where everything that isn't electronic is declining?

The people leaving Blizzard are following the normal path, retire till the non-compete clause ends then jump back into the industry as an owner.

is there a list of all the new studios that have been created from former Blizzard employees? It seemed like originally people just left to just another game company like Greg did, but now the more passionate dudes are leaving to make whole new studios.

For me, I feel like if they dont have the IPs that I loved that they worked on, it's gonna be really hard for me to be excited for this but hopefully they all succeed and we get some really cool stuff out of it.

Also Chris Metzen, I think posted a pic of his Warhammer collection on Twitter, dude is literally enjoying the rest of his life and I'm so jealous(not that i like table top stuff, RIP MageKnights)

Yeah, I don't understand it at all. Never been a particular fan of tabletop games at all, but that just means its not made for people like me in mind, and thats fine.

One should always do what one enjoy, and Metzen has always felt like a nerdlad (and I dont say that in a negative sense), so I think this is perfect for him.

After seeing Metzens posts on Twitter with all his amazing Warhammer mini's I really hope it has mini's

Table Top games are thriving and are probably doing better than they've ever done before. I'd maybe even say its a new golden age of table top.

Isn't that mainly thanks to the epidemic? When the epidemic is gone will it still be thriving?

If more people has gotten into it during the epidemic, it might even become bigger when the endemic ends, since more can meet up and play.

Makes me think part of them leaving Blizzard was a contract that they weren't allowed to start new companies for a few years. A lot of them coming out around the same time is too coincedental.

No, it's been growing despite Covid not in spite of it.

    This.

Metzen has been open about his love for table top games. They always have been his number 1 passion.

Plus it doesn't put him into any competition of Blizzard since it is not a video game studio. So it's not like the others either.

If you've heard any of Metzen's post-Blizzard long-form interviews his getting into tabletop games is a perfect fit. He has always played and enjoyed them and hasn't been quiet about saying so. They are a bigger thing than people realize. This may be a good time to be in that market, especially given Metzen's name recognition which extends somewhat beyond the bounds of Blizzard.

Not really, the epidemic might have boosted it a bit but it really has been thriving for the past years.

Look at D&D, something which was sure to label you as a virgin that can't socialise in the past is thriving more than ever. Lots of people play it and talk about it nowadays, it almost reached mainstream levels.

Which I always found hilariously stupid. I mean, for example, Vin Diesel has been a DnD nerd since the 80's.

This is awesome, a few weeks back I saw a post from him with a picture deploying some 40k minis in one of the 40k groups im in. I was shocked to look at his profile and find that It was indeed actually him and not some copy/burner, just talking about the game and interacting with the community. Super genuine dude.

Hope this goes well and they go into wargaming. With GW's recent pricing they very clearly need some competition.

He was posting a lot of his 40k models on twitter recently so this isn't that surprising. He seems like a huge tabletop fan.

Everything's fine guys, it doesn't matter that all the core talent is leaving Blizzard. It's not about the people, it's about the company. Activision Blizzard. Which is made of people. Oh wait
