Angry Admin Removing Protections for Nation's LArgest Rainforest

For anyone concerned about protecting public lands or climate change, this is bad news. It could take decades to undo this damage. We need to preserve the ecology of the Tongass. It is a massive carbon sink. The roadless areas have ecosystems that do not exist elsewhere in the National Forest system.

Trump administration is stripping protections from Tongass National Forest, called "America's last climate sanctuary"

President Trump is exempting Alaska's entire Tongass National Forest from the roadless rule, making more more than 9.3 million acres eligible for logging and other development. It is one of the biggest public lands rollbacks of his presidency.

Sadly, expecting to see even more looting of public resources from this administration.
Welcome to GEN-OT, have a seat, we'll introduce you to the 23-year-old who will lecture you about how Democrats didn't try hard enough to improve the ACA, and once that's all set up you'll be assigned a socialist who supported Ron Paul up to 2015 to harass you forever.

Just have to hope Biden has made a list of every shit E.O. Trump has made and reverses them within first 100 days.

This is why one must question just what the fuck are republicans??? Why do people vote for them?

I am beginning to think that diversity leads to problems because white people (in this country. Others races for other countries that have the majority)can’t leave their racism behind. They will drain the town pool so blacks can’t go to the pool therefore NO ONE GOES. They will vote against expanding welfare when they themselves qualify because THEY HATE that those black and brown people will also get it.

Maybe those racists who tout how diversity makes things bad for the country are right in a way... their own hatred and racism leads them to fuck things over for everyone and every part of the country in their pursuit to be better than a person who doesn’t have the same melanin content as them.

well their #1 isssues are immigration

sure you have the crazy qanon nuts that are online and go to trump rallies, but the otherwise good none crazy people have an unconditional view on 3 issues
    immigration being #1
    abortion being #2
    gun rights #3
so they will say " i dont agree with his personality or all of these other things but hes good on X issue "

its unfortunate just because of immigration we have to suffer with every single other policy
and dems arent even that leftward on immigration.. Obama deported more people than any previous admin, and put up border barriers, but not good enough for the class of voters that decide the election

Why are you racializing this thread? It's not relevant and it's a forbidden topic. The real topic is about whether or not you prefer the natural environment or civil infrastructure like roads.

huh? that's a rather insane thing should we destroy every Forrest in the world to make things like roads? there are other reasons corporations want to destroy these places besides making civil infrastructure.

Why do you seek to remove race from racialised things? I know you believe that the past means nothing for the future but not all of us are that confused about history.

The reason why republicans are in power precisely deals with race issues. The reason America doesn’t embrace social laws other contentious have lies in racism of the white populace... which has been studied. Policies that help minorities are unpopular among whites and whites are far less likely to accept it.

The topic is about the natural environment vs infrastructure and economic growth... If we use your logic then pretty much every issue has to be about race.

No that only relates to causality and when you're predicting that the future will be a continuation of the past based on a pattern. If you think society can be improved then you're admitting that history is not doomed to repeat itself.

You should judge ideas based on their universal merit and not because "it helps tribe X more than it helps my tribe".

You're catching on... issues about the environment often are precisely about race. Do you think it is an accident that black and latinos just so happen to have higher rates of asthma and more health issues related to the environment than whites? Do you think infrastructure and economic growth are separate from race issues? Do you think where the government invests money doesn't follow the same lines of systemic racism?

Society can be improved, but it can't improve by not admitting history as led us to the present point. And you are doomed to repeat it if you pretend history has no effect on the modern day.

You should judge ideas based on their universal merit and not because "it helps tribe X more than it helps my tribe".

Yes... unfortunately white Americans haven't done that:

    https://daily.jstor.org/when-cities-...d-integration/

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...ts-study-says/

White Americans are increasingly critical of the country’s social safety net, a new study suggests, thanks in part to a rising tide of racial resentment.
The study, conducted by researchers at two California universities and published Wednesday in the journal Social Forces, finds that opposition to welfare programs has grown among white Americans since 2008, even when controlling for political views and socioeconomic status.
They’re the think tank pushing for welfare work requirements. Republicans say they’re experts. Economists call it ‘junk science.’
White Americans are more likely to favor welfare cuts when they believe that their status is threatened and that minorities are the main beneficiaries of safety net programs, the study says.
The findings suggest that political efforts to cut welfare programs are driven less by conservative principles than by racial anxiety, the authors conclude. That also hurts white Americans who make up the largest share of Medicaid and food-stamp recipients. President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have proposed deep cuts to both programs.
    https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswi...lfare-programs

The researchers wanted to understand how the behavior of white Americans shifted when they perceived different things — even if untrue — about how certain racial groups were faring.

"We find evidence that welfare backlash among white Americans is driven in part by feelings that the status of whites in America is under threat," Wetts told NPR.
And this is why race is part of the problem.

I said how can anyone even support this shit republicans are doing? How can anyone applaud these actions, but then I remember... race plays a huge huge part. Why do white Americans vote for republicans? Why do they vote for things that are against their own interest? Well often enough it is because they don't want black and brown people to advance. They feel they lose their grip of superiority.

Now to a person like you... who doesn't think history is important to today's world. Perhaps this to you is all new and impossible, but for those of us who give a shit about history. The outcome of the 1676 rebellion has been in play since 1676, through to today's world.

The outcome of apathy during reconstruction, is why we are in the world we are in now. The Tulsa massacre, the stealing of land, the segregation, the stealing of opportunity is why we are in the situation we are in now, and we continue to be in this shitty situation...

Because white Americans too frequently vote in fear "their status is being diminished" so they will vote to pollute their own waters, if it means their black neighbour doesn't get clean water.

Have you considered the idea that you're overly obsessed with white people? There's a lot of political and ideological diversity among white people which means you shouldn't be generalizing about "white Americans" in this way. Maybe one day the topic can be about the upsides/downsides of environmental regulations instead of being about identity politics.

Lol you’re assuming environmental regulations don’t have a racial dimension when part of the reason y’all are so laid back about climate change is because its most immediate and severe effects will be felt in the global south.

I guess you ignored the sources because history based evidence doesn’t exist in your fantasy world.

Which, ironically enough, started up entirely because they repeatedly get their asses handed to them in threads about...climate change.

I didn't ignore them. They didn't relate to the topic so what are we suppose to talk about? You're literally just using this thread to post random articles about race.
because history based evidence doesn’t exist in your fantasy world.
Virtually all evidence is historical and it exists. Where's the argument here?

No I said prior repeated experiences do not determine future outcomes. If that were true then nothing could improve because everything would be based on repeating patterns and cycles.

Americans are only obsessed with race by virtue of the systems and worldview they imported from Europe.

It's a postcolonial entity, hun. Demographic animus tends to be central to such circumstances.

No seriously, remember that time Trump tried to roll back standards for natural gas and all the companies were like "woah woah woah we don't want this!"
