Forsaken Dark Ranger/Undead Elf Discussion Megathread

as always the high elf thread got out of control again and instead of arguing about high elves we are talking about forsaken!

I think the logical thing to do would be to create a thread about this and discuss what we think about dark ragers here.

as many will know there are those who want to play undead elf / dark ranger.

so far we have some proposals that respect the lore and aesthetics of the dark ranger as an integral part of the forsaken society

These would be the proposals until now:

1) Allied race: There are those who believe that it is best to have give the Forsaken this allied race.

2) as a customization: give the forsaken elf customization like ears and eyebrows to their current model

3)In the same character creation screen, have the undead human and undead elf models and be able to customize the model that we want to play. something similar to what we see with worgen


4)Many people ask for a class hero dark ranger like DK or DH could work and we would have the NE dark ranger for the alliance

In my view giving blood elves new skin and face options to match the San’layn would be the simplest and best option. Allied races or model swaps for the undead work too.

It would be easier to just allow Death Knights to equip and use Bows so then at least Blood Elf Death Knights can RP as Dark Rangers. They could fanservice harder by opening up Red eyes to Blood Elf Death Knights to allow people to complete the Dark Ranger look. That would avoid opening up the whole can of worms around how they could be implemented as part of Blood Elves. DKs already have the undead skin anyways.

I think it would make the most sense to give that option to the Undead race instead of the BE race. Otherwise you'd get questionable combinations like Undead Elf Paladin (actually I wouldn't mind that since it would open up the door for other "questionable" options like Void Elf Paladin).

Where is option 5) as a customization, but for blood elves? That undead mockup looks horrible, more like an april fool than anything I want to see ingame. Besides that, opening them up as alternative bodytype would be ok I guess, but only if they give thinn(er) humans to Kul Tirans too.

Unless they are going to be hard-locked into being MM Hunters, people are not going to like the sudden and unexplained existence of Undead Elf Paladins and Priests in the Horde either. That would be breaking more lore than would be gained with broad implementation of undead features to Blood Elves.

If you look at the kit Sylvanas has in Heroes of the Storm and in game Dark Rangers are much closer to a Sub Rogue + Survival Hunter (ranged and melee abilities) + Shadow Priest all rolled into one. Almost all the higher ranked Dark Rangers can stealth too even in-game.

To be fair we already do have an 'Undead Elf' option with Blood Elf (and now Void Elf) Death Knight.

I think that if Dark Ranger was given similar Undeath treatment, it would suffice.

Personally i do not see a future for the dark ranger as anything other than an undead hunter, but the undead elf vibe is not a bad suggestion at all.
It seems unlikely that forsaken elves would differ much from forsaken humans so i figure it'd be more something for customization a la the wildhammer tattoos for dwarves.

I would prefer not to give undead forms to any living races outside of death knight specific skins, as it makes very little sense for them to keep their living powers and it undermines the concept of the forsaken quite a lot by simply being "Even more rotted humans that also cannibalize things".
