Georgia Senate Runoff Election Jan. 5

Both senates seats in the state of Georgia are holding a runoff vote. This will effect control of the senate.

The first Georgia Senate runoff will feature GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler, who was appointed to her seat earlier this year, against the Democratic challenger, Raphael Warnock. The two are vying in a special election to fill the rest of the term for a seat vacated by retired Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson.

In the second race, Republican incumbent Sen. David Perdue will face Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff. Neither secured more than 50% of ballots in earlier count.

It's basically a referendum on whether or not people get Federal help for Covid. This message should only get more powerful as the pandemic continues to rage out of control. UI bonus and additional relief checks are at stake.

The important part about this race is that it cannot be won by turnout alone.

Biden won the state, but Perdue got nearly 100,000 more votes than Ossoff. In the special election, if you generously give Democrats every vote that wasn't explicitly for a Republican candidate, they still come up 50,000 short of the Republican vote share.

Even if we get everyone to the polls, Ossoff and Warnock are probably going to lose. Democrats need to go door to door, hold events, and do everything in their power to actually convert folks. They need to go on conservative media and change minds. If they want the Senate badly enough, they're going to have to do more than just throw money at TV ads and radio ads and mass mailers.

Here's hoping that Stacey Abrams does her magic and Trump voters stay at home because he isn't on the ballot.

Republican Sweep. I don’t think as many Georgians will vote in a runoff as they did for President, which will likely favor Republicans.

When the fuck has that ever worked, and that seems like a surefire way to lose a portion of their own base.

Perdue is a known name and the incumbent. He more or less won against Ossoff and he'll probably be able to do it again.

Loeffler is a corrupt idiot and I think Warnock has a reasonable chance of defeating her.

In either case I expect Governor Kemp to try and ratfuck the election.

The best that can happen is a split.
    Warnock has a chance.
    Ossof...not so much.

If the bolded is true, then the democrats will sweep. Democrats are definitely motivated, and Trump doing his thing will KEEP them motivated.

The air waves in Georgia were already flooded with basically disgusting ads. The democrats need to have enough ad time to just make it so that republican ads don't swamp the airwaves. Any more than that is wasted. Actually, political ads are so disgusting that it might be better to have a bit FEWER than republicans.

In my opinion, it's too late to move left or right or convert new voters on either side. Making new statements about anything will have no effect. It's all about getting voters out.

I agree with Grapemask about republicans basically having a lead. I don't think it's a large one. Though Trump was a republican vote magnet in November, all he can do now is embarrass himself over the next few weeks. This won't get more of his voters to the polls, but it might depress republican turnout, or get more democratic voters to the polls.

The best person to send money to would be Stacey Abrams. She knows how to get the vote out.

Key Dates for the Georgia Senate Runoffs:

    • November 18, 2020 - Voters can begin requesting absentee ballots
    • December 7, 2020 - The deadline to register to vote for the runoff
    • December 14, 2020 - Early voting for the runoff will begin
    January 5, 2021 - Run off Election

So about 4 weeks to eek out more voter registrations.

Can Dems continue their trend of special elections of the 2017 and 2019 cycles?

You realize one of your web-stalkers and former Rand Paul fanbois, is going to use that vote to totally pwn you in the distant future.

Anyways, looks like Biden and the GA dems are amping up the Covid relief/plan messaging.

That would require them to call me out and that aign’t happening. I am ready for the ‘we need a split Congress’ to have real debates or not have upset Trump supporters or sustain the friction founding fathers intended... it’s only been a couple of years...

I voted "Democratic Sweep" because that's what I hope will happen, not what I think will happen.

I think it's too close right now to really make a prediction. But I hope Ossoff and Wynock pull it off. Just think of what we can do if Biden has a friendly Senate and House. And no Mitch McConnell as a plus (as in, he won't be Sen. Majority Leader)

Remember, when David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler were briefed on COVID, their first calls were to their stock brokers.

The biggest positive I can see for dems is that thousands of Trump followers won't show up because they never gave a shit about republicans to begin with.

Even for those who worry about full dem control of government, well, they shouldn't. A 50/50 senate would actually allow some things to get done (this is good), but nothing too extreme because there are several dem senators that would never go along with stuff that's too progressive.

So if someone wants to see government function at all, but doesn't want things to swing too far left, then they should vote dem.

Really solid analysis - it's not going to be turnout, it's going to be enthusiasm. Hoping Trump's defeat will push down GOP desire to vote again.

    Right?

This shouldn't be a run-off, this should have been a clear win for Ossoff and Wynock because people should be smart enough to not re-elect the criminally corrupt.

But apparently, millions of people would rather continue to vote against their own self interests and continue to enable corrupt politicians, than vote for change.

Last four years have really drained what faith I had left in people at the end of Obama's term.

i only voted for split because that would be atypical of 2020 so far.

Also there will be federal help either way, its just the difference between a token republican payment vs a democrat one that actually helps
    Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!

Is this who we think will win or who we hope will win? Obviously most of us hope for a Democratic sweep. I think there's a good chance for a split, very little chance to sweep for the Dems and a very good chance for the GOP to gain both positions due to ratfucking.

  20. #20
I think there's a chance for Dems here.

    1. Trump crying that voting is rigged will hopefully disenfranchise conservative voters.
    2. There's less distraction for Dem voters.
    3. Any advertising the right does for their candidates should be effective to convince Dems to vote against.
    4. The DNC can and will put their full weight and more money behind those two candidates.
