If M+ was an AOE spam-fest then it just means that the mobs are not challenging enough. An AOE cap wont fix that.

It’s so stupid. Try being a melee on the first huge pull in Tol Dagor... you can just stand by watching the Frost mages, Shadow Priests and Warlocks AOE down the mobs. It sucks so much

Mass AOE is only possible because the mobs are too easy. An AOE cap wint fix that. It just makes everything more boring.

Blizzard logic:
“Ranged dot specs have been dominating raiding for a decade... let’s also make them dominate M+. Fuck melees. They can get Storming on top of the AOE cap.”
No they wont becouse skills what are not caped are used by classes what are heavely punished with mobility which is exactly where dmg will balance itsself out. Yes most meeles are aoe capped beocuse of their dominance in mythic+ thanks to heavy dmg and easy uptime comapred to casters. What you know have to stand still in order to cast anything. Also meele have far better utility when comes to things like shrouds, stuns, reduced interrupts, etc...

AoE worked with "reduced dmg over X targets" even in WC3. So, if Blizz wanted to actually nerf melee AoE (which was actually getting out of hand), they could have nerfed things on a per case basis instead of just slamming an arbitrary cap. The current implementation reeks more of some sad attempt at limiting procs (and thus server calculations) rather than actual balancing.
