Preferred Stores / Sites a nine

Parts that can be reused - laptop

Do you need an OS?- No

Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)? - no

    Edit—

The Acer Spin 3 2 and 1 goes on sale at Best Buy Black Friday. Is that even worth looking at

Maybe I could convince him to just build a tower

Do you plan to overclock? - no

    Country- Canada

600 CAD for a tower? Not a chance dude, sorry. In terms of laptops - the only thing decent that's under $500 and is not a chromebook/ultrabook and decent is something like Acer Aspire 5. I also like ASUS budget stuff for reliability but it has some serious drawbacks this year, so check reviews (I'm talking about Vivobook 15).

Could get a Ryzen 3200G for a tower build. It'll run 1080p games with low quality for only 100 dollars. And another 100 for mobo, 50-60 for ram. It'll be much faster than any budget laptop.
It's not powerful, but still runs even some current games on low graphics.

I would save a little and get the new Macbook Air honestly. If not, look into Honor MagicBooks (there are several models, all similar).

Seriously? He is looking for a gaming laptop and you're suggesting Mac Air? If OP wants to play PACMAN, then Mac Air is Fine. Else, Get a windows Laptop. To OP, I see he owns a XBOX, why do you need a gaming laptop?

Now, I'm slightly agreeing Alantor, as for gaming - you already have a xbox. for work - Get a Mac Air.

Because sometimes you need to play games that aren't on Xbox, or have a decently powerful computer for something else.

But really 5-600 dollars isn't enough for a gaming laptop, it's barely enough for an entry-level desktop

i think Lenovo 15.6 ThinkBook is a good idea it will cost you around 500 dollars. However you may read post on cputemper.com on best gaming laptop under $500 it will help you decide which is the best that fulfils you demand
