Naw, not really. I generally support not holding some legislation hostage in order to try to force another to pass, or in this case at least get voted down pointlessly.

That money, even if we can argue it's too much and going to dumb shit, is hugely important for a ton of folks whose jobs rely on the defense bill. That pays for a ton of American jobs, and I'd rather they not lose money and work because a liberal decided that hurting "a few" was the best way to get money for everyone.

We can't force McConnell to hold a vote. But we absolutely HAVE to make it as expensive as possible for him to stand his ground. And Biden absolutely has to chime in.

He is NOT "just another American citizen". He is the President Elect, and will be President in less than a month. His voice matters a lot. Either he is willing to stand up to McConnell or he is not. This is absolutely definitely the time to stand up.

It ain't happenin, sadly. Because it's not in the authority of the president-elect to do anything. McConnell controls the Senate, the best Democrats can do is the Sanders push to delay the defense veto override to force a vote on the $2K checks...but that ain't happenin since McConnell just added a poison pill that's completely unrelated that he knows Democrats won't vote for, while also attaching something Trump actually wants.

Don't get me wrong, I wish Biden would realize that "ye olden days" of both sides working on compromises is long dead and that Republicans have exhibited no evidence that they have any desire to govern or work together in good faith. I wish he'd go hard, realizing that there isn't some secret "silent majority" of Republicans in Congress that just want to get back to normal.

If you think he'd put any pressure on McConnell that hasn't already been put on him by business interests, constituents, lobbyists, politicians from all sides of the isle, media etc. etc. then I don't know what to tell you.

Exactly this. Democrats should vote to pass it but point out that the amendment is all McTurtles doing so any consequences coming from it belong to him. That they don't want it but are willing to compromise to give republicans what they want in order to allow the $2K checks to go out. Then republicans can either pass it along with democrats and watch it destroy the internet as we know it, or vote it down and show everyone exactly the games they are playing.
