In theory, just one. Druids can cover every possible role, so all other classes are unnecessary.

The question of "how many classes does the game need" is irrelevant. It never mattered in the first place, as the game always had more classes than necessary.

The game doesn't *need* anything and variety is the spice of life.
The only argument against new classes is "balance", but a class would affect far less the balance than the constant extra system layers added on top of layers on top of classes, so I refuse that logic.

I watch that every once in a while when i want to feel hyped. The WoD and Cata ones also got a great reaction.

I don't think any reaction has ever been bigger than "New character Models".

By the time 10.0 releases, it will have been almost 6.5 years since the last class was released. Its time. Honestly, if they really wanted to generate hype they would do 3 things.

    1. New Class.
    2. New races.
    3. Player Housing.

Those are the 3 biggest things they could do to generate hype.

The legion announcement cheering from the crowd is more impressive when you consider it was Gamescom and not Blizzcon that would be loaded with fans for WoW

Make it 18 years without a new rDPS, and 10 since the last healer.
Also, glad to hear I'm not the only one that sometimes just randomly watches crowd reactions to reveal trailers lol

Don't forget there was no new classes that could use mail armor, and there was no new class that can use bow.

This is how I imagine Undermine to really be --- or rather anything heavily Goblin/Gnome tech. Mechagon's questing zone should have been the actual dungeon areas.

The same is true for cloth.
You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.

As someone with the terrible life decisions of maining both hunter and shaman at different points, I think we're ok without more mail classes lol, just fuse it with plate or leather so we can have nice things

    That link is broke.

Also, yes its far past time we get another ranged class. What class could be a rdps and a healer?

I suppose you could have a dragon class with ranged dps. If they did add a dragon class I will be disappointed if it doesn't have 4 specs. Although, I think every spec should potentially have abilities from every flight. Like a heal from red or bronze, and a defensive black flight ability.

Tank spec- Mostly Black and Bronze. Heals wounds rewinding time.
Healer- Mostly red with some green and bronze.
Ranged DPS- Mostly Blue with some bronze and green.
Melee DPS- More like a druid form. Abilities from all flights, but takes the form of a dragon to fight.

While true, Cloth, Plate, and Leather have 3+ each

    Warlock, Priest, Mage

    Demon Hunter, Druid, Rogue Monk

    DK, Paladin, Warrior

    Mail still only has 2

    Hunter, Shaman

There is that one class I won't mention, to avoid another 20 pages of argumentation that we have heard ad nauseum, dark ranger or necromancer could also do it in theory, with a more discipline-type approach. Would also grant us an edgy healer, and edge sells.

I would definetly prefer a dragonsworn type of class, though

Timewalker. Back when they introduced the Timeless Isle, there are three Timewalker NPCs who each tell you what they do and they all correspond to a spec.

Warden, tank. "It is for this reason I joined Wardens, staunch defenders of the Timewalkers. We guard the Watchers and Weavers as they go about their tasks." (From Warden Virgil)

Weaver, heals. "Amongst the Timewalkers, we alone can repair damage to the timeways, open temporal portals, and other such tasks." (From Weaver Belmaril)

Watcher, DPS. "The Watchers are the Timewalkers' scholars and scouts, researchers and spies. We watch the timeways and record, investigate, and report temporal tampering and unusual phenomena." (From Watcher Bianca)

Though they appear in Hearthstone and are given more normal classes, from what I understand. But at the time they were introduced I was so sure we would be getting them as a class.

And yet nothing. Though as I like time magic being with arcane mages (somewhat) maybe for the best. I'd hate to lose time based magic.

The logic is sound, but if this were an actual consideration, we wouldn’t have had Monk and Demon Hunter back to back.

Frankly I'd love to see mail removed and Hunter and Shaman just turned into Leather classes.

Since tanking became an innate spec feature and the loot system was changed forever ago, armor type doesn't really matter for much other than transmog. Hunter and shaman are both naturey classes and it would be nice if they could mix and match with druid, and hunter and rogue have enough thematic overlap that it would be nice if they shared skins too.

That's always been the thing with classes. Demon hunters were a long-established and popular archetype. Monks filled a missing martial arts archetype and fit the expansion theme.

In Magic: The Gathering terms, Blizzard tends to design classes in a Top Down rather than Bottom Up fashion.

Armor isn't really what defines a class, especially after the changes that made armor type (and even armor value) almost meaningless. Creating something whole cloth just for the sake of armor, or forcing armor onto something it doesn't fit just to fill a quota, doesn't provide a lot of value for the effort.

Similarly, I think all the post-launch classes have been melee simply because there are more popular melee archetypes in Warcraft than ranged. I think Necromancer is the most obvious ranged option that isn't playable, but Death Knight took that slot before there were any new classes to make a trend out of.

Just remove mail armor from the game, fuse hunter sets to leather and shaman sets to plate, feels good.
(secretly wants Shaman transmog on his warrior, since given up on playing Shaman)

Please, there a perfect example of hypocritical thinking:

New leak. Probably fake. I would be happy with it if it was real though. The "Press Release" is a nice touch.
