It's probably a kneejerk reaction, but Ion's recent comments about 'getting 9.2 into player's hands first' just gave me a feeling that we could be a bit of a ways off from a reveal still.

Thinking of 6.2 and the Archimonde-Defeat/Guldan-Portal cinematic, we had about a month and a half wait after that until Legion was revealed.

Not bad really, and I could see them doing the same after the 8th. Give it another month and a bit- have a Spring event of sorts for Blizzard games in general?

To me it sounds like they will give us a date for the expansion reveal shortly after players have killed the Jailer. Basically the announcment of the announcement.

I honestly was expecting an announcement close to the time that blizzconline would've been, as we would have gotten an announcement during blizzconline had it not been canceled.
But now that I think about it I am kind of glad they're not announcing it right away/waiting for 9.2 to be fully in our hands.

It could give them more time to work on the trailers/announcement itself so it doesn't feel as empty as the SL trailer was.
I do expect some news on the week of the 8th or 15th

And since they won't announce it seconds/hours after the Raid Cinematic goes out, and since they usually release announcement streams on Thursdays/Fridays, I guess we can expect the announcement on March 10/11?

A lot of people here are in for a major disappointment I guess. Why y’all so fixated on 10.0 being announced in March? Everybody expecting an announcement directly after the Jailer has been defeated, like 1 minute after, are pretty high on copium and not the good stuff that makes this thread fun.

Let 9.2 breathe and rest for a while before expecting anything regarding the next expansion.

I think Blizzard is nowhere near as pressed as some players in here about the upcoming expansion. Sure, it needs to be announced soon(ish), but that doesn’t mean it has to be here two weeks after 9.2 launch.

The only thing that might matter in this case are the Q1 financial results and even that has lost a lot of its importance due to the impending Microsoft acquisition. They still want to release Diablo Immortal in Q1 afaik and that’s enough for Q1 anyway.

Can an announcement happen in March? Sure. But it’s anything but guaranteed. PAX East is taking place end of April. That’s a way bigger platform to announce 10.0 than a measly livestream. Granted, I don’t know if Blizzard is attending as I haven’t found a list of attending studios yet, but it could be Blizzard‘s return to the spotlight. And with the acquisition there’s a way bigger topic to talk about than the scandal, which would have overshadowed every event they would have been attending last year.

There's really nothing to make it unlikely. Half the expansions were announced before their final patch even went live, so clearly announcing right after a raid release means absolutely nothing.

Think about what goes into an expansion reveal. If they really can't curate that amount of resources just to show off some zone landmasses (don't even need the entire zones, just bits and pieces of them), the new class/race, and some text about core features then they are way behind where they should be.

I wouldn’t be surprised by a much later than usual announcement that comes much closer to the actual release date than ever before. The more temporal distance between the controversies, the less tainted the hype will be - and they’ll shorten the window in which another controversy could kneecap their momentum.

No, we may get an official blue post with a date and then 1-2 weeks later get the reveal.

They are not gonna set up a whole live stream just to announce a date and we are absolutely not getting the reveal 2-3 days after the cinematic launches with no build up.

As long as the ongoing war has no direct impact on the USA (which so far is the case, despite NATO being ready for anything and the fact that the whole situationcould blow up in a matter of days) business will continue as usual.
Please don't take this as me being cynical, what's happening in Ukraine is truly awful and breaks my heart (even more so speaking as a European), I just do not think it will have any impact on digital businesses.

What does WoW have to do with the things going on in Eastern Europe? Doesn't affect Blizzard at all or any business operating in/from the USA.

There’s always a war or conflict somewhere. Delaying entertainment products because of that makes no sense and serves no purpose.

As Arafal said, an expansion announcement needs a proper pre-announcement if it’s not done on a major gaming event. And this already means it won’t happen directly after the Jailer is available because for that to happen they most likely would have already had the pre-announcement.

So make it: 1. Jailer is available - 2. Shortly after the pre-announcement - 3. One or two weeks later the announcement. So towards the end of March, at best.
