I can't believe they didn't pull an "Illidan" with Arthas and use him in some amazing way for fan service.

No, my remark wasn't about the actual lore implications, but that this speech can be interpreted as this new gen of lore devs/writers departing (or trying to) from the relics of the past.

As cheesy as it sounds, I would honestly prefer it if Jaina was the one to wave him off. Like, one final echo of the pure and uncorrupted Arthas floating before her before dissipating into "heaven" or whatever. Especially since it was the Jailer all along, Arthas doesn't deserve oblivion imo.

Honestly it would've made more sense for him to dissipate into the realm of SL where he belongs if it was Jaina saying goodbye to him, as a closing of their chapter and moving forward. I mean I have a feeling Sylvanas know about Arthas much more than vice-versa

Sure. But fanservice that brings in the big bucks would be Arthas returning to usurp the Jailer or something. Enemy of my enemy is my friend, sort of deal.

And that would be a terrible plot in an already polarizing plot of an expansion.


I get that people who have severely disliked this expansion (and the last) due to the gameplay or the story (or both) hoping/wishing for something redeeming but adding an equally dumb plot to "fix it" does not end up fixing it.

Decent cinematic IMO, and exactly what it needed to be. Important figures representing both the child of Anduin & Anduin the King leading him forth to break the control of Zovaal. Arthas having an extremely minor appearance, showing that he really was used up until he was almost nothing, moving past the old Lich King model. Sylvanas more or less forgiving him, which is reflective of her new character.

It’s nothing earth shattering, but it actually gave answers without adding questions, which is absolutely something Shadowlands has lacked thus far.

It is Varian's and Saurfang's spirits essentially giving Anduin the "pep talk" and moral support needed for him to break the Jailer's domination over him... on his own. In the end, all Anduin needed was his own willpower.


And perhaps a raid of 10-20 people beating him up to weaken him. After all... you need to damage a Pokemon first before you can capture it.
