For Blizzard? Never. He joined in late MoP.

Since the moment him leaving became a sign Blizzard was bad. Same as all the other developers leaving. They are complicit in the terrible work enviroment and low quality of gameplay until the moment they announce their resignation, at that point they become the last of the old guard who were trying to keep Blizzard afloat.

Highly unlikely, but maybe they are waiting to release 9.2.5 on the PTR to not spoil stuff, or to not take away from the WF race.
Don't think they have ever done something like that before, and I doubt it's happening here, but you never know.

This reads to me as the generic "doing the honors" for the company and leaving on good terms with a positive message. Doing the gentlemenly (uh oh) exit.
Sad but also good for him...

At this point I'm hoping that the projent Chilton is working its WoW2... so the next expansion will lead us to a totally new game... alla Final Fantasy Realm Reborn style.

But one thing that caught my eye - in his farewell tweet he mentioned that he can't wait to see everyone's reactions to the news on April 19th. Doesn't have to mean much but kind of feels like he's suggesting it's big.

Retail hotfix bake and some minor interface stuff, pretty regular really. They rolled it back due to some incompatibility issues, I think. We'll probably see the build again tomorrow/later this week.

So much this. I mean sooner or later people tend to leave or switch around in the same company, especially when dealing with software. Working 10 years in a single company and on one project (WoW) is a really long time tbh. I think people underestimate this and just group up each expansion as a separate project.

There's a lot of ways to read into that. Could be really big and exciting. Could be highly controversial.

Could be and most likely is - he's trying to leave in good graces. We know an expansion is being announced. Blizzard will consider that big news, even if everything in that presentation is really underwhelming.

Let's be honest, it is big news. Whether it is good news is a different matter.

You must be a WoD baby to consider them an OG. You also act as if diversity hires is a bad thing. The reverse of diversity hires has been happening for decades. As long as they can do the job it doesn't matter if the color of their skin or their gender.

Not to mention we already have the names of those responsible for the broken parts of the game. It sounds like these "diversity hires" have been doing a better job.

Interesting since most people I've seen (and probably you) think current WoW is bad and old WoW was good... which would mean the best WoW was during the "reverse diversity" stage compared to the current hiring practices. Which one is it?

Some of the OGs are the reason for the problems in the game
because if we use your reasoning of "the old guys are leaving so the quality will be effected" and compare it to how many QoL changes and good changes have been made since the first guys have been kicked then wouldnt that mean they are holding the game back??

Devs leaving games is a fairly common occurrence, my understanding. Going somewhere else after being there for about a decade is not that crazy, but every time a dev leaves it's the end of the game, and it doesn't even matter the game. Bonus points when the doomsayer also makes it political.
