The lore states that dragons pick their mortal forms essentially to blend in better with mortals. Be it to look through "the eyes of younger races", spy reasons, or to be more familiar to the races they're interacting with so they can interact with them better. The specific form they pick on top of that can be what is closer to their personality.
Don't see how Drakonids fit into that at all. We've never seen a single dragon pretend to be a dragonkin. Not even in the most obscure places of lore or non-canon sources.

I'm all about giving players options.
If blizzard was about giving players options we'd have less class restrictions.
But in the end the debate is pointless because you'll see on the 19th that we won't be actual dragons because of the several lore & mechanical reasons.
Only exception might be a dragon form mount for some reason, but mounts aren't actual canon so it's ok.

I just hope if we get a dragonkin/drakonid/dragonman race it has a unique skeleton compared to existing playable races with unique animations.

I hope if they add Covenant ARs they give the Kyrians wings. Blue humans alone would be kind of lame. Maybe they get a worgen-style Running Wild like ability, but for flying. It would be even better if they can choose from the regular Kyrian or the Forsworn color palette.

This but for the faeries too, please.

While I doubt they'll do covenant ARs, I do hope they go this route IF they add Kyrian.
Though with one of my main alts being a DH I'd be disappointed that they still wouldn't have flight.

Especially the forsworn colors, I just think they're cool. I'd probably be edgy and have my Kyrian use the forsworn wings with the SoD set.

So you're going to continue to ignore the fact that we have several HotS abilities and concepts in WoW, and Blizzard bringing in the dragon concepts would just be another example of a phenomenon that's been happening since Legion?

Drakonids would look the most unique, Dragonmen would be based off Worgen like they were in Cata. However, them doing concept work on Female Drakonid in Hearthstone makes me feel like they are most likely.

Dragonmen are supposed to look like Walmart brand Drakonids anyway, unless they made a cooler version I don’t think they would purposefully give players a weaker looking version.

My unrealistic want would be to have Drakonids have a separate body type that's skinnier like Dragonman/DnD Kobold. (Though obviously not using the worgen rig)
The skinnier would be perfect for a rogue and/or caster I'd think.
Bulky one for the melee classes obviously.

You ignored the second part and they added HotS abilities to classes that already existed yes

We having the "the new race/class/feature has to exist because of some arbitrary rule/exemption/precedent that only I actually follow" argument today? Cool. Beats yesterday's hill to die on.

Covenant races have been coming and going the Shadowlands since the start of the expansion. If you don't like that, that's fine, but it's not a retcon.

If there's a new class and it's dragon themed, it doesn't have to be limited by the red dragon flight because we've only seen a picture of Alex. While it does look official, it might not be the only picture, there might be other pictures of the other flights. And if it is the only one, it makes sense to use Alex since she's the most well known aspect that's still kicking it since the only other one is the Bronze Dragonflight and, iirc, he kinda took a sabbatical.

Not gonna lie, faeries would be a pretty cool choice for the Night Fae AR.

Yea, that would look really awesome! Almost like a Val'kyr, which would be fun to play as. DH getting flying should have been a no-brainer in Legion too.

Tbh I only think blizz gave dragons "mortal forms" because they wouldn't fit in doorways/some buildings.
I don't think dragons with mortal forms even existed before WoW

Cool, feel free to show a Dragonsworn with unique abilities in WoW or any Blizzard videogame.

I don't see why they couldn't do the faery as a playable race. EQ2 has two different flavors and it doesn't break anything. Plus, more Moonberry is never a bad thing, imo.

But that's exactly what they do. They even have a rite of passage to celebrate doing it.

It would require a large re-work of the skeleton, mostly for combat animations and to make them walk on the ground rather than float, but it'd work. Use the Goblin/Vulpera base. Disappear their wings to make sheathing and cloaks work, reappear them whenever they use their racial mount. Bam.

Isn't it also lore somewhere that they turn into mortals because the sex feels better?
It became clear that it wasn’t realistic to try to get the audience back to being more hardcore, as it had been in the past. -- Tom Chilton

That feels suspiciously like Cata-era lore.

Also should we add that it's not that uncommon for a lot of dragons to fight in mortal form.

Tyrygosa defend the dragon soul in mortal form, casting spell. And Lord Afrasastrasz (Afrasiabi self insert) is a human fighting with an axe in the TCG card and in game in Dragon Soul raid.

Releasing a drakonid race would just be a marketing suicide because litterally no one will ever play them or would be hyped by them.

Yep. They seemingly enjoy the "soft skin" of mortals.

    Very true.

Very true as well, but some posters think they're a better addition to the game then a class based on some of the most popular WoW character around. No point in arguing when it gets to that point.
