It looks good and all, but im still underwhelmed, but it's probably my fault.
i REALY wanted some orcs, knights, elfs and wizards set in revamped EK and kalimdor.
TBH, i probably just want WoW2.
Thing is, if the dragon form is the only combat form, then the illusion could be ANYTHING.
It became clear that it wasn’t realistic to try to get the audience back to being more hardcore, as it had been in the past. -- Tom Chilton
They're not building up to anything major just because of updated models. They've been revamping old models for quite a while now. They just use them in the next patch/expansion when they do that.
Troggs, yetis, quillboar, and Dire Trolls were all updated and they were used in BfA. Dryads and Keepers were updated in Legion, and they were seen a lot there.
Most demons were updated because we kept seeing them around. We saw updates to the Succubus, imp, voidwalker, voidlord, felhunter, felguard, wrathguard, and others.
Most of the elementals have been updated here and there, being used in different content since then.
Most critters and a lot of battle pets have had their models redone. Rabbits, cats, rats, frogs, turtles, crows, seagulls, eagles, etc.
Lots of other animals have been updated as well, or they have had some sort of HD remake while the old models still exist. Like kodos, bears, saber cats, horses, crabs, gryphons, hippogryphs, wyverns, etc.
Lots of skins that apply to player races in the files were revamped in HD as well during WoD, like Earthen, the cultists skins for humans and gnomes, whitemane's skin, leper gnomes, dark irons (which got another update in BfA), Mag'har, Grimtotem, Druids of the Flame, Dark Rangers, etc.
Now we have updated Gnolls, Centaur, Tuskarr, and dragon-related creatures.
They're just doing it to freshen up the game along the way. It makes it much prettier to see a creature that looks more in line with other recent models, rather than a prairie dog with 6 triangles as its only model.
Dragonflight and SL are smaller because of many factors, with a world-wide pandemic and a huge scandal in the company that has led to investigations as the largest. There have been many people fired and replaced in Blizzard. They will be part of Microsoft soon. Their policies in the workplace have completely changed. It's been chaos for Blizzard for a couple years now.
We can see these changes in other Blizzard games as well. Overwatch hasn't had a new playable hero since April 2020. Their next hero will come out in OW2, which the release has been pushed back. They added one new map for the first time in years, and it was a Deathmatch map that most people don't see. Most of the changes they want to do in OW are being saved for OW2. The Lunar event this year only had 2 new skins, and the anniversary event has been combined into the Archives, Anniversary, and Summer events specifically so they can take time to work on OW2. Te skins released for this event are white recolors of other skins, and the weekly events are older skins that many people earned before.
Blizzard is drowning with their head barely above water. They're updating and using old models because it makes the world prettier, and it requires a lot less effort.
3 hints to surviving MMO-C forums:
1.) If you have an opinion, someone will say that it is wrong
2.) If you have a source, there will be people who refuse to believe it
3.) If you use logic, it will be largely ignored
btw: Spires of Arak = Arakkoa.
Yes as mentioned but nothing about the class specific customization changed, same with demon hunters.
They don`t have a track record of doing much with hero classes that have been introduced, that was the point.
There seems to be a vast difference between say..
Letting blood elves become warriors eventually, and giving death knights a fourth spec.
Considering this is also a hero race (like the elf specific demon hunters), it seems even more unlikely.
Other interviews and some answers:
“In combat you’re primarily in Dracthyr form,” said Brian Holinka, Lead Combat Designer on Dragonflight.
“When in social situations, you can decide which form you’re in.”
About the Djaradin: “They’re ancient enemies of the dragons, hunted dragons, and particularly hated the Black Dragonflight.

“‘Azerite traits, Artifacts, Covenant abilities. What are some of the coolest things we have, and let’s put it in a talent tree so that players can make some choices and get those cool things back.”
Finally, we asked if the talent trees will be easier to expand in the future, which Holinka confirmed is part of the thinking.

It's not gonna happen, but they could implement the other races slowly over time.
They even have a lore explanation for it.
"The Dracthyr didn't shapeshift into anything else cause they were isolated, now that they are in contact with us they begann shifting into forms that suit them more"
LOL this is some major historical revisionism. That is absolutely not how Legion played out. Loads of people basically quit after 1-2 months. But Blizzard got them back with whatever patch it was that stopped artifacts being fucking stupid to level and the stuff they'd added by then.
Most of the rest of your complaints are slightly Droopy Dog-style pessimism or failure to recognise that this expansion is being announced at what is pretty clearly a somewhat earlier stage of development than is usual.

I think this became joke over years, but Tuskarr look as legit potential allied race for a major patch.
Source?
there wont be one because danuser was in charge of the narrative for BFA and SL

Show me some data to back up your claim that isn't anecdotal, we can all spout personal opinions as some sort of fact.
Case in point i know many people through coimmunties i have been a part of and just general contacts, that quit during legion simply because of legiondaries
Yeah honestly I'm giving up. I think I'll spend this weekend checking out Epsilon and trying some world building myself to scratch that itch cause Blizzard is just not going to do it.
Part of me still is hooked on hopium and when they kept saying about how Dragon Isles is about Azeroth being renewed and revitalized it might mean revamp comes after. But meh, who knows at this point. There is so much I'd love to see in WoW that will never happen. We get a new class every 4-6 years when so many archetypes are missing and when the time came to add something they made something completely original. WHich may end up being great. But it just means archetypes i keep seeing in WoW lore will likely never be playable. At some point you got to give up.

Yeah it's the big idea with certain streamers. Everything wrong with WoW was Afrasiabi's fault!

Well they did mention a large part of the story is the Horde and Alliance working together through a unified Explorer's League and Reliquary to recruit the native species in the Dragon Isles. So probably not before 10.0 but it doesn't seem entirely out of the question for a 10.x feature.
