See the stupid logic I'm seeing in this thread is people are under the assumption Mon to Fri is still a working norm, these days there are people who work weekends and working in a 24/7 365 business myself there's ALWAYS people on shift incase the shit hit the fan, Thinking an IT business only does Mon to Fri 9til 5 is purely naive.

July 14th is all you need to know. It’s been in front of us all along. Enjoy your weekend and come back next week!

Yeah but usually people work weekends either due to crunch or as maintenance right? I've worked plenty of weekends and even 80 hour weeks because there was work to be done (heck I almost always work a few hours every Sunday simply because it is the right time for what I need to do).

And nobody said that.. If you ever worked for longer than a day in it. You'd know that releasing or starting a test on Friday is considered bad practice.
This is pure common sense. Not a "ehmagetd 24/7 bruh!"

Troubleshooting and fixing costs a lot more in weekends, because generally the employer contracts pay more for weekend work. Less people are available etc etc etc.

Downtime and money are a thing.

I know copium and hopium are strong here. But let's stay realistic.

The staff on call/working at Blizzard (which is what we're talking about in this topic, not "the norm") in weekends or 24/7 are there for live ops and don't generally cover PTR/Alpha/Beta tests, and in the capacity that they do (monitoring or taking action when stuff is actively going wrong or ruining things outside of testing), they don't cover actually launching Alphas or anything like that unless Zorbrix or one of the producers decides to work overtime.

Here’s what is funny to me: We’ve known about the start of Dragonflight Alpha for over a month now.
Taliesan told us the 14th of July.
Marlamin took off work next week.
Stiven from wowhead comes back from vacation for next week.
Towelliee’s prediction is for the 14th of July.

Next week is gonna be lit!

I work as a IBM I Engineer which is an Ops job, and I know for a fact as I work the shifts all over the week/end myself that things can still go on over a weekend including downtimes maintenance and new system builds/upgrades.

Similar to what I do but there is always a Dev team member available on call should things go wrong with what we do.

I guess I personally (and based on history) just don't see a full Friday launch happening, for example, devs like seeing people progress through content and stuff and having that initial wave happen over the weekend/outside of working hours just kinda sucks. I'm sure they can pull it off if they wanted to, I just don't think they want to.

The 247 support crew is not the ones who decide when to push the builds.

And those who do decide it, would rather be in work when it happens.

    "There's always stuff going on"
"THere's just a person on call"

    It's either/or.. not both.

No sane company will perform maintenance in the weekend unless it's not possible otherwise. And guess what? For an alpha it's perfectly possible!

They didn't say "just a person on call". They said "always at least a person on call".
