Overall, I would say normal flying is still superior because you have full control of your mount and are not dependent on constantly earning momentum to stay airborne, but it is a decent replacement until normal flying is unlocked in the Dragon Isles... if that happens, that is.

Not all abilities are in the talent tree. Some are still given as baseline abilities.

I mean, Drag Isles just became accessible. Not sure how a Grimtotem managed to get there and get enough cred among Primalists.

I imagine that if you are the kind of player that treats the open world as a lobby for getting to raids then nothing will sway you, but I think this is a great new feature that finally fixes the most glaring issues with old flying, predominantly having full movement at no downside.

Mage talents look like the absolute worst choices. So much good stuff to pick from legion/bfa, but they chose some of the least used legos/sets or mega nerfed conduits which are useless without their extra ranks.

I thought that only applies to utilities or stuff like Astral Recall (and not to spec defining talents, I thought they are all either in the class or the spec tree).

Maybe access through the elemental plane/Lifelands? DI was only blocked to the rest of Azeroth.

Depends how you view it. Dragonriding is meant to be more interactive. If you like that, then its superior to old flying.

Removing something and then giving it back to us in a limited version with restrictions isn’t a game design choice that should be cherished.

If we wouldn’t have had flying before, this would be excellent. So it’s just a limitation of what we had before.

Also something I don't understand: the Dracthyr racial lets them do Dragonflying in the old world, with momentum boosts and everything.

So... why can't other races use basic Dragonflying on their (new) dragon mounts in the old world?

Flying at launch hasn't been a thing for a long time now, and old flying will be available later. Getting ANY flying at launch is "giving" something.
