Anyone else confused by the pre-patch story? It seems pretty bare bones/lackluster from PTR. Shouldn’t we have a proper “bridge to gap” SL to DF? We just log in and the Dragon Isles exist?
SL and DF specifically does not have a bridge, just the part with Anduin still not having returned.
Also, surely the intor here is that Wrathion shows up and tells us that the Dracthyr have appeared, and the Dragon Isles with them. Queue ships being sent to investigate.
The world revamp dream will never die!
The 3 year time skip is also that bridge
I realize my question comes across as ignorance from my part so let me explain:
You log in to the pre-patch, and a quest pops up saying "Champion, the Dragon Isles have awakened!" How does that make any sense? The last thing we did, from a lore perspective, was reclaim Undercity and get a seed from Ardenweald for Tyrande. Where the heck did the Dragon Isles come from? I know WoW lore in and out (obsessed with it) so I'm not ignorant. I'm simply asking, how does this make any sense from the end of SL story to Day one, logging in pre-patch??
I still think that we will be bridging the 3 year skip sometime during 11.0. It makes zero sense for the Worgen to not reclaim Gilneas in three years of peacetime, yet they (devs) want to do it.
However, if future content leveling path goes like this...
Exiles Reach -> 11.0 EK/Kalimdor -> Dragon Isles > 11.0 late leveling/ Max Level Content
Then it explains the gap. It WILL be filled and explained one way or another, as there is no way that nothing happened for three years and I don't think they are going to imply as such.

It's probably down to there not being a good way to have a pre and post 3-year timeskip. You are just supposed to imagine that between logging off before the events begin your character goes around for three years before you get back to the character after.

It's why a timeskip doesn't really make sense for a live game line wow. Every single event taking place within that timeskip is something you missed out on, and everything that should have happened is a plothole.
It's why you really only see it in single player games with a story focus
The world revamp dream will never die!
The timeskip is so bizarre and nonsensical without a revamp that I can only assume that one is planned, in order to bridge that gap. Why they are doing it NOW instead of just waiting is also odd.
Note that we see no characters talking about what happened during that time in DF besides "I miss Anduin" and "lol that wedding" which are conversations that could be easily removed.
I guess my issue is the fact that the last few expansion pre-patches have been rather large (in terms of story, quests, events, cinematics, etc.). Now, I will admit that I am NOT spoiling Dragonflight for myself (I know like 3% of the entire storyline just from tidbits here and there). So, it's possible more gets revealed during the 2 week pre-patch past "The Dragon Isles Await" random quest when you log in (e.g., Dracthyr starting zone, dialogue about time skip, cinematics (encrypted), etc.)
If Arathi Highlands and Darkshore can be re-textured, geographically edited, set with new quests/mobs/etc, and still be Max Level Content,
what makes you distinguish "11.0 EK/Kalimdor" from "11.0 Max Level Content?"
There's like 47 zones or something between EK and Kalimdor, and you think if those were revamped, that they wouldn't be used as Max Level Content?
It boggles my brain that people still think they'd pull a Cata-style revamp for low-lvl leveling only. That's not at all the game we're playing anymore, and Chromie Time ensures that.

Do you think we'll have something interesting for the 18th anniversary ?
As per Marlamin, I wouldn't think too much about the Jinyu lines.

There's other ones like that, and I doubt Gunker or Sessile creature are gonna become a race.

What events? Timeskips are employed to skip over periods where nothing of import happens to have a realistic timeframe for things of import to actually happen in. You're not missing out on anything; nothing happened.

Where's the problem? Leaving aside that the actual awakening takes places in a relatively short timeframe. The time skipped was uneventful. Examine your own life: How much of your time spent awake is filled with truly important events? How much of it would you skip when telling about it because it'd just bore everybody?
I am a WoW shill. 100%. I'm also not complaining about the time skip (that's someone else). I'm simply saying that based on the PTR Pre-patch event, it seems very lackluster compared to previous expansions. Additionally, the logging in during Part II of the pre-patch and being randomly greeted by Ebyssian or Wrathion out of nowhere. BFA's pre-patch was LOADED. As someone who knows WoW lore very well, and is logging into the game (in theory, for the first time since the end of 9.2.5 story canonically speaking), I just don't understand how this makes any sense.
