Is "copium" in the new "ok boomer" family ? The stupidities of internet will never cease to amaze me.

It's just a play on the verb "to cope" and the noun "opium", used to refer to people deluding themselves to levels that indicate they abuse a metaphorical drug that helps them to cope with reality.

"ok boomer" is just to dismiss perceived older people with backwards attitudes that usually don't have a clue how the modern world works.

You can argue that maybe that Bastion splash screen looks like sand dunes if you're not paying attention, but the black and white concept shots are clearly not.

If you want some hints as to what they might do with the First Ones and Zereth whatever, you should look at the concepts for Oribos earlier in that video. This has been waaaaaaaay too much talk about sand.

Still it's a stupid phrase and buzzword of the year for people making it simple enough, while coping is an important process of human life, but yeah internet neckies using it for people who aren't raging 24/7, seems okay, yeaaah.

Again, I don't know why you are trying to use shit like names that were decided on who knows when as evidence for what an early concept piece is.

Here are later versions of the same concept art exploring other colors to make the zone feel more ethereal:


Do you see how, very clearly, in these versions, the peaked, triangular dunes that are in the original have been changed because they are being shifted towards rolling hills of grass with rocks and away from sandy dunes?



As you yourself expressed, these artists are not incompetent. They clearly understand the difference between dunes

Na, it's sadly quite obvious that the pegasi were the original concept for the horses around Ardenweald/Bastion, but for some reason they skipped the wings and went with normal unicorns .... again.

It wouldn't surprise me if Bastion went through a change at some point. Its happened before. Remember Frostfire? They planned it as a purple sand desert originally but they realized the purple sand gave a more snow feel.

It’s just as well. Feathery wings in this game tend to look like paper when they’re folded up. It’s my biggest gripe with the aquilon and larion mounts.

You mean a name that we didn't even learn was connected until later?

Go look at the image that was originally leaked. That was all the information we had at the time, and where the "Bastion = Desert" confusion came from.

You're expecting people to make connections based on information they didn't have. You're not being terribly reasonable there.

It's generally thrown around by people who have to cope with the fact that other people still enjoy the game and look forward to playing the game.


That they throw around "cope" because they themselves are coping with the opposite feeling.


The same people who acknowledge they hate the game, don't play it anymore, and continue to frequent these forums -- a predominately WoW-based forum -- with the incessant desire to let the rest of the website know that they don't play the game/the game sucks/Blizzard has ruined the game/Blizzard sucks... and their only way to justify is by telling others they are addicted.

Didn't gorgrond change as well?

Gorgrond kinda changed, though not so much in actual execution so much as design intent.

The original idea for Gorgrond was that it was a jungle that was clearcut and essentially terraformed into the rocky terrain by Blackhand. Though most of the orc stuff eventually got scrapped for that zone, so instead it's seemingly meant to illustrate a sort of warring zone between the Breakers in Frostfire and the Botani in Tanaan.

Except that both images you posted are rolling, rounded hills, where the concept art specifically has the sort of sharp peaked dunes you get from sand shaped by wind.

If you're going to be sarcastic about what the artists drew, at least be able to recognize basic shapes and see how completely different what you posted is.

Frostfire Ridge was also originally intended to be a purple desert which other devs mistook for snow, which they eventually ended up doing. It's just concept art. Idk why people are looking so deep into this.
