If the GOP agrees, it could pass immediately. Highly likely not to happen. Vermont Jesus leading a rally on McConnell's lawn to pressure him. Also unlikely.
Democrats voted unanimously to begin debate on a budget resolution, the first step in kicking off the reconciliation process
- 50 Hours of Debate
- Finish considering amendments, every senator can propose an amendment. There's a fun vote-a-rama and a square dance
- The Senate then votes on the amended budget resolution
- The House must approve an identical budget resolution
- Once approved, 11 Senate committees begin to write the bill, and to ensure that it includes the provisions of Biden’s Covid-19 package
- The Senate then votes on the final bill
Not counting lawsuits by ALEC, the Texas AG, and porg band fronted by Ted Cruz. They will try to argue some elements aren't constitutional.

You left out the part where Manchin is being an asshole and Biden/Senate Dems let the GOP add their 2 cents into the conversation. At least when Rand Paul screws over his party its because they aren't being right-wing enough. Manchin is a clown, Democrats need to really say fuck him and look for a seat to flip somewhere else, don't even worry about primarying him. Maybe one day people will be able to hold hands and reach across the aisle again, but not in the current environment with the same Senators who gave the country the middle finger multiple times for the last 10 or so years. Republicans have way too much clout right now.
We're back to holding up critical legislation with parliamentary procedure, which I hate to say is by design sometimes so people settle and forget. People will stand in front of tanks but you can take the wind out of anything with the right amount of bureaucracy.

Democrats must pull the Jimmy Dore force the vote bullshit, but with a better target... threaten to primary Manchin... I know... not as sensational as riding GOP in going after AOC... but, this is where your tact is actually legitimate.

If Biden can get 10 GOP members with a reasonable limit on who gets the stimulus... I think it’s a worth while endeavor. I don’t know what reasonable means...
Edit: Never mind... do it by tax bracket...

The grifters at the Justice Dumdums already tried to primary Manchin. Paula Jo Swearingen was their and Bernies hand picked candidate.
She lost the 2018 primary to Manchin 30/70.
She lost the 2020 general to Shelley Capito 30/70.
Manchin is the most progressive candidate you can win with in West Virginia. It sucks that he sometimes votes for Trump appointees. But on big agenda items he votes the Dem line 8/10.
His most annoying feature is his political kabuki of stanning for consensus. Which I imagine is mostly for audience members back in WV.
And most importantly he cacauses with Dems, which makes everything possible at the moment.

Problem with Dore tactics is that they are not well thought off and the it's mostly is right-wing conspiracy what that guy is spouting.
Manchin got elected in 2018...he doesn't have to run for another 4 years.

Not pressuring this guy is another mistake though.
Even if defeating him is a hard to do the idea of just allowing Manchin to do what Joe Lieberman did is as dangerous.
Look at this way.
You hav right-wingers bitching about ACA and how expensive it is but at the same time the policies that would have helped got blocked by the same group of people that they are voting for.
Republican idea's aren't populair, but what they do is create the toxic environment which created Trump.

Well the idea of unity is over. It is war between Senate democrats and republicans.

Title: McConnell and the GOP are preparing a barrage of budget amendments to water down Biden's COVID-19 stimulus package
I'll quote the whole article.
The republicans will try to turn the reconciliation bill into a multiple hour republican political ad. Democrats need to have a plan to deal with it. Hopefully they will have a prepared list of items that Manchin will defect on and do that in a prepared retreat while holding firm on all the rest. And then I guess there are two decent plans of action: let the republicans say their piece, and basically ignore all that they said and vote down the amendment (other than the ones that democrats previously agree to pass), or to fight back with their own talking points.
Mitch McConnell is bombarding Democrats with amendments to Thursday's budget resolution.
Republicans have filed at least 400 amendments at the measure, which is key to passing Biden's stimulus plan.
The process is a traditional response to the use of budget reconciliation, and is usually painful.
Visit the Business section of Insider for more stories.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is preparing a welter of amendments to a budget resolution essential to passing President Joe Biden's COVID-19 stimulus package in a grueling "vote-a-rama" on Thursday.
Democrats have signaled that they will press ahead to pass the $1.9 trillion stimulus without GOP support using budget reconciliation, a process that prevents filibustering and would allow the bill to pass with a simple majority of 51 votes.
However, the price for using this measure is having to receive a barrage of amendments from the GOP to the budget resolution needed to pass the stimulus, which is likely to keep the Senate debating for hours.
Republicans had filed at least 400 amendments by Wednesday night, Roll Call reported.
"Senate Republicans will be ready and waiting with a host of amendments to improve the rushed procedural step that's being jammed through," McConnell told the Senate floor Tuesday.
"We'll be getting senators on the record about whether taxpayers should fund checks for illegal immigrants, whether Democrats should raise taxes on small businesses in the midst of this historic crisis, and whether generous federal funding should pour into school districts where the unions refuse to let schools open," he continued.
"And this is just a small taste."
Other proposed amendments include measures to preserve former President Donald Trump's southern border wall and a plan to reverse Biden's decision to halt the Keystone XL pipeline, according to Politico.
Faced with accusations of a lack of bipartisanship, the White House has signaled that Biden is open to some adjustments to the stimulus from the GOP, but that flexibility may be limited.
The president has rejected outright a slimmed-down proposal from Republicans on Monday, which was priced at around a third of the cost.
But there is room for adjustment on the threshold for receiving $1,400 stimulus checks, currently aimed at those earning $75,000 or less.
A "vote-a-rama" followed the last use of budget reconciliation in 2017, when the Trump administration passed a sweeping series of tax breaks without Democratic support.
This process is viewed by lawmakers as not only a way to shape legislation, but a prime site for point-scoring and mining footage for future attack ads.
McConnell hinted at this by painting a picture of what he believes voters will see this time around.
"The American people will see Republicans are focused on smart and responsible policies to reopen the country," he said, adding that Democrats will be seen as "desperate" to force through a "poorly-targeted borrowing spree."

Hopefully the democrats will fight hard. They may mostly lose, but they still have to fight. And democrats have to know before hand exactly which amendments they will let through (due to Manchin or someone else defecting) and lose gracefully when it is necessary to lose.
While it will probably drop as time passes, it usually does, Biden now has a 61% approval rating.
To put that in context: take Trump's highest ever approval rating, add some more, and Biden's still higher.

Whoa whoa whoa, what is this? Pro-austerity neoliberal Biden, who loves bombing people is ending US support of the Saudi operations in Yemen? And freezing arm sales to the Saudis? The US has announced an end to its support for Saudi-led offensive operations in Yemen, citing the role the bombing campaign has had in creating the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
The announcement was made by the national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, in a preview of a speech Joe Biden is due to deliver at the state department,
A bipartisan majority in Congress has already voted to cut off support to the Saudi campaign, citing the civilian death toll and the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi dissident and Washington Post columnist, by Saudi security agents, in 2018. But Donald Trump used his veto to block the move, and its supporters were unable to muster the two-thirds vote in Congress needed to override the veto.
The US will also freeze arms sales to Saudi Arabia, and name a special envoy to Yemen, to put more pressure on the Saudis, Emiratis and the Houthi forces they are fighting, to make a lasting peace agreement.
I feel like we were warned that he was gonna ramp up bombing, this doesn't seem like he's ramping up bombing or supporting bombing in the middle east. What gives?
So worried about giving money to the wrong people....income caps...etc
But they have no problem letting this happen
They made smaller companies give back millions but did not say Boo about this.

Sitting on billions, Catholic dioceses amassed taxpayer aid
As the pandemic began to unfold, scores of Catholic dioceses across the U.S. received aid through the Paycheck Protection Program while sitting on well over $10 billion in cash, short-term investments or other available funds, an Associated Press investigation has found. And despite the broad economic downturn, these assets have grown in many dioceses.
Yet even with that financial safety net, the 112 dioceses that shared their financial statements, along with the churches and schools they oversee, collected at least $1.5 billion in taxpayer-backed aid. A majority of these dioceses reported enough money on hand to cover at least six months of operating expenses, even without any new income.
The financial resources of several dioceses rivaled or exceeded those available to publicly traded companies like Shake Shack and Ruth’s Chris Steak House, whose early participation in the program triggered outrage. Federal officials responded by emphasizing the money was intended for those who lacked the cushion that cash and other liquidity provide. Many corporations returned the funds.
Overall, the nation’s nearly 200 dioceses, where bishops and cardinals govern, and other Catholic institutions received at least $3 billion. That makes the Roman Catholic Church perhaps the biggest beneficiary of the paycheck program, according to AP’s analysis of data the U.S. Small Business Administration released following a public-records lawsuit by news organizations. The agency for months had shared only partial information, making a more precise analysis impossible.
By using a special exemption that the church lobbied to include in the paycheck program, Catholic entities amassed at least $3 billion — roughly the same as the combined total of recipients from the other faiths that rounded out the top five, AP found. Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist and Jewish faith-based recipients also totaled at least $3 billion. Catholics account for about a fifth of the U.S. religious population while members of Protestant and Jewish denominations are nearly half, according to the Pew Research Center.
Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!
