Looking at 2018, I don't think they tried to primary him then. They still need him until they can get a majority without him and potentially lose that seat. Honestly, I don't think it'll be the DNC that is capable of removing him, but rather grassroots groups like Fair Fight. His primary opponent, Paula Jean Swearengin, seems like she was thoroughly trounced by both him in the 2018 primary (70:30) and by the Republican candidate, Shelley Moore Capito, in the 2020 Senate election (70:30).

I'm hoping they can find some "West Virginia progressives" like Fair Fight and company (it was a huge network of folks, and I lament that the only one I know off the top of my head is Stacey Abrams. She was key, but there were a ton of other folks who did incredible work who deserve credit) found "Georgia progressives". Incrementalism, yo, let those folks realize that "progressive" isn't the dirty word they think it is as they start getting a taste of more progressive politics.

National address is good, but they need to have Reps/Senators out constantly, on every network talking about it. They need to be pushing op-eds in any paper they can. They need to be blasting out press release after press release about what's in it. They need to blanket the damned media with THIS ONE STORY for a week, at least, to the exclusion of other news. It can keep and they can talk about it later.

Democrats are historically bad at selling their accomplishments. Granted they don't have a news channel dedicated to that like Republicans do with Fox, but that's why you gotta just fucking carpetbomb the entire media landscape and leverage Reps/Senators to deal with local/state media while having the more notable folks make the national appearances.

House votes 220-211 in favor of Biden $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan.

    Zero Republicans voted in favor.

    One Democrat voted against:
    RepGolden
    of Maine's 2nd CD.

    Biden will sign bill Friday

Remember a majority, basically a super majority of Democrats voted for Trump's relief. None here for the Republicans. Still can't believe American citizens think this party gives a shit.

Probably, it's definitely not going to be quick. But we can work to make Manchin irrelevant where there's more opportunity to flip seats, functionally removing any power he has to be a bottleneck (and Sinema, for that matter). Take away that power and he can be largely ignored until either Republicans take his seat or local folks get a more progressive candidate elected.

  5. #5225
Anyone expecting progressive policies to take hold in the near future are in for a rough time. There aren't enough progressives with seats and as long as the Republican party exists it will be an uphill battle.

The White House says President Biden will appoint someone to run implementation of the massive coronavirus relief bill, but no announcements on who specifically will do so yet.

Hmmm, whom will he appoint for this office of managing a budget.

What, he’s not going to pull a trump and appoint a close family member with zero government experience?

Analysis: Despite Republican opposition, red states fare well in Biden's COVID-19 bill

President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion coronavirus aid bill was crafted without Republican input and passed Congress without a single Republican vote. Nevertheless, Republican-leaning states are due to get a disproportionate share of many of its benefits.

States that voted for former President Donald Trump in the November election are due to get a larger amount of education and child-care aid per resident than those that backed Biden, according to estimates from two congressional committees.

Residents of Republican-leaning states, which tend to have lower household incomes, also are likely to get larger stimulus checks and tax breaks as well, according to an independent research group.

That would be enough to offset the smaller share of state and local aid Trump-backing states are due to receive compared to states that backed Biden, which is calculated on a different basis.

Overall, Republican-leaning states would get a net $3,192 per resident from these provisions, which account for slightly more than $1 trillion of the bill's $1.9 trillion cost. Democratic-leaning states would get $3,160, according to a Reuters analysis.

    Not much to say.

Huh? It passed 220-211. Even if the House was full, the passing mark is 218-217.

IIRC, the GOP is already down 2 seats in the House due to COVID deaths, anyway, (and one Dem has resigned to join Biden's administration), so the vote would still have won at a "full" House of 217-215, as those seats are all unfilled at the moment.

    CNN: Relief bill press conference.
    MSNBC: Relief bill press conference.
Fox: HERE'S A DUDE NAMED CHAD TALKING ABOUT THE BORDER
Fox previously: $1.9 trillion out the back door

Because I guess passing a bill in Congress and sending it to the President is using the "back door"?

I think the idea was "one more GoP Senator in the place of a Dem Senator", which would have made it 49-50.

It did, one Republican was absent for a funeral. Even if he was present it would have been 51-50 with Harris breaking the tie. If Democrats all vote together, a bill is gonna pass.
