Reading articles before you post them helps, because that's not what the bill did nor is that the reason why it was passed. Bonus points -The fiscal year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act passed Jan. 1 states no Defense Department funds from fiscal years 2020 or 2021 can be used to drawdown U.S. troops in Afghanistan below 4,000 or 2,000 until the defense secretary submits a report to Congress that assesses what effect the reduction in forces would have on areas including risk to U.S. personnel and the ongoing counterterrorism mission.
The NDAA also states the president can waive the funding limitation on troop reduction totals if he submits to Congress a “written determination that the waiver is important to the national security interests of the United States, and a detailed explanation of how the waiver furthers those interests.”
Its the Biden is senile and Harris is the real president BS nutjob conspiracy theory that is being pushed in mainstream republican (i.e. far right) circles.
It goes like this. Biden is senile and can't govern and has to be fed lines and talking points to repeat by his handlers. It's the only way he can survive media interviews. But because he's senile his media contact has to be kept severely limited otherwise he will out himself as senile and people will realize what is going on. The person who is really in charge and who is pulling Biden's strings i.e. the person who is the real president is Kamala Harris. Why her? Because she's black/brown, and nothing pushes their racist buttons more than having a black/brown person in charge. Also, apparently, democrats will engineer/invent a health crisis for Biden at some time point in the next 1-2 years, which will be used to explain why Biden is standing down and Kamala is taking over as president to finish the remainder of his term (again because she's black/brown).

In which Republicans admit they DO want forever-wars and are suddenly bigly opposed to troop withdrawals after supporting Trumps initiatives.“Wars don’t end when one side abandons the fight.
“Withdrawing our forces from Afghanistan by September 11 will only embolden the very jihadists who attacked our homeland on that day twenty years ago. By declaring that this withdrawal is not based on conditions on the ground, the Biden Administration is sending a dangerous signal that the United States fundamentally does not understand—or is willfully ignorant of—the terrorist threat.
“President Biden’s decision hands the Taliban and al Qaeda a propaganda victory, abandons our global leadership position, and plays into our adversaries’ hands. As we saw with President Obama’s reckless decision to pull troops out of Iraq in 2011, retreat does not end the fight against terrorism. It merely gives our enemies more room to reconstitute and plot attacks against the homeland.”
Also, remember that time Trump invited the Taliban to Camp David? Those were good times. And Cheyney is supposed to be one of the "reasonable" non-Trumpers, to boot.
I will believe it when I see it. I fully expect to see a list of "Exceptions" come out over the next month or two, which keep stripping down the goal until that date becomes mostly meaningless.
I do not believe Bagram will be closed or turned over to the ASF by September 11. I would be surprised if either KAF or JBad were turned over either, although those are slightly more likely.
"prohibited as part of the NDAA the US to lower troop numbers in Afghanistan without a report being sent to them."
What exactly do you think that bolded part meant really?
Oh she's quite reasonable if you care about the rule of law in the US and don't fancy being a sore loser over a rightfully lost election like Trump wise. Also, remember that time Trump invited the Taliban to Camp David? Those were good times. And Cheyney is supposed to be one of the "reasonable" non-Trumpers, to boot.
If you're expecting a reasonable take on foreign policy don't look to Congress.
That's the other side of the coin. I'd be shocked if the DOD didn't find creative ways to "withdraw troops" to show publicly they did it to appease critics while maintaining an "advisory force" or some other nonsense in Afghanistan.
I really hate it when governments do this crap.

"Life is one long series of problems to solve. The more you solve, the better a man you become.... Tribulations spawn in life and over and over again we must stand our ground and face them."
Oh no, the GOP and Putinbots are having a hard time dealing with Biden's messaging.
“You’ll never get anyone to admit this on the record, but it’s really f**king hard to drive down the negatives of an affable, gentlemanly white man who says nice, positive things most of the time,” a veteran Republican consultant said of Joe Biden.
Explain why we see so many strawman arguments of Biden at this point. Also, could one build a strawman out of turnips?
Also driving the gossip columnists at Politico insane!
Once you notice Ryan Lizza and Tara Palmeri were in the byline it all made sense.
Opps, double post. BAsically;
The Beltway media is rooting for the GOP. Always has been.
They do this out of boredom, or out of a sense of class solidarity.
It's hilarious watching all this. They have nothing to pin on Biden so far because things are so normal. It's an indictment on just how batshit crazy the last 4 years were.
Sorry, the last 4 years, that included such gems as having a Twitter feud with a little girl and retweeting a supporter screaming “white power”, is abnormal. Having such expectations from a president, is part of the problem with having a brand name as a president.

That’s what GOP wants everyone to think is normal... otherwise, you can’t both sides crazy.

So before announcing the Afghan withdraw, Bifden talked to Obama and W.
But not Trump. Because Trump lies all the time about everything.
Also, NATO is backing the play.
Can't wait to see the rabid fanbase invent a reason why this, something Trump promised but did not do, is bad.
