Republican leaders drew a line Wednesday in negotiations with President Joe Biden on a massive infrastructure package, calling an increase to corporate taxes a "non-starter" and saying they're only willing to pay for physical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, airports and broadband expansion.
This is why "bipartisanship" is completely dead. The tax cut was a purely partisan push, yet they're demanding that Democrats swallow it and not meet halfway in slightly raising corporate taxes to pay for new spending, especially after the "economic growth" that was promised - from increased tax receipts to investment into companies expanding jobs - never appeared.

They don't want to pay for anything they spend money on, even when they propose minimal spending.

Beyond that, limiting it to purely physical infrastructure like roads and broadband is a massive failure of imagination and a refusal to tackle bigger problems that our nations overall infrastructure lacks.

"Not to negotiate here, but you won't find any Republicans who's going to go raise taxes," McCarthy told reporters outside the White House following the meeting. "I think that's the worst thing you could do in this economy when you watch inflation."
Raising taxes doesn't cause inflation. If anything, spending would cause inflation. And given that inflation has remained low, we could use some. And with this proposal, it pushes a lot of money to "working class" folks through big spending programs to help many catch up with an economy that has left them behind and be able to absorb mild inflation.

Which is why I continue to say: Ignore Republicans. Invite them to the table, and if they're not willing to deal seriously move forward without them. They've been doing the same whenever they could, so they are owed absolutely nothing. Let them cry more as Democratic legislation they whine and moan about remains popular (even amongst Republicans) and their signature 2017 tax cut remains historically unpopular.

There's no evidence I've seen that supports this. Last I saw it was a "criminal gang", not a state actor - https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/10/u...-darkside.html

..lets not pretend theres a difference between criminal gang and state actor in russia, lots of papers on putins connection and support of organized crime, it was their original connection to trump even,

putin could shut down any organized crime group if he wanted to just like he does thousands of journalist and political dissenters, but they have direct links with his government to attack his enemies, IE infrastructure attacks that keep happening

No thanks, I'll stick with the official determinations rather than look for foes in every shadow. If they uncover connections, cool. If not, cool. I'm not an intelligence expert. I'm not a cybersecurity expert. I don't have any insider info about this hack. And I doubt you are/do either.

We're really going to just let Israel steal peoples homes, attack and harass Muslims during Ramadan at one of their holiest sites of worship, and commit war crimes by leveling apartment buildings and killing children?

President Biden says he expects violence in Israel to end “sooner rather than later,” and that the nation has a right to defend itself, after a call on Wednesday with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“My expectation and hope is that this will be closing down sooner rather than later,” the president told reporters on Wednesday after his conversation with the Israeli PM.

At least 72 people have died in fighting between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants, many of them Palestinian civilians, including at least 16 children and 5 women.

Netanyahu pledges to reduce carbon footprint by 2050

The US State Department has urged “calm” and “de-escalation on all sides.”

Serious fighting between Israel and militants in Gaza began on Monday, but tensions had been building for days and decades beforehand.

One is the ongoing effort to evict Palestinians from the East Jerusalem district of Sheikh Jarrah, a contested part of the city Israel annexed during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, which is home to the descendants of Palestinian refugees who were expelled from the area during 1948 “Nakba” (catastrophe), the Palestinian name for the civil war which established the modern state of Israel. Most of the international community has not recognized Israel’s claim over East Jerusalem as legitimate.

Right to self-defense? What the fuck? I also love the bolded part of the article where the writer lumps in the 2 Israelis who died from the Hamas rockets with the rest of the dead and injured Palestinians as if to say the aggression and death tolls are somehow equal. This is Israel going full fascist and there's no way to defend this (people certainly will though).

    Absolutely sickening.

And how will they do that, without tax revenue which they willingly gave away and refuse to get back?

Selling these items off, and handing the money to their friends.

Hey - did you see the part where the Palestines were sending hundreds of rockets over to Israel? Or should a country just not respond to rocket attacks unless those attacks kill more than 2 people?

I appreciate you only want to see one side of this conflict, but at least don't be so blatant about your bias.

I believe something similar did become a thread a long while back. It didn't end well before the lock.

Maybe, but it's an issue with an entirely different country. The only way it could conceivably have anything to do with Biden is the expectation of a response.

this has been going on for decades now and you're acting as if Israel is completely innocent? I can sure see a bias here.

Without getting too far off topic like...they're not shooting rockets out of the blue or anything. The entire situation is fucked up and complicated, but the Israeli's are not some poor innocent victims.

What do you think the rockets were in response to? Get your head out of the sand, bud.

*edit - And yes, I do have a bias against fascism and war crimes, not gunna lie.

i mean the people getting killed by Hamas rockets and the people getting killed by the Israeli strikes are probably innocent victims.

That video of the right wing Zionist mob smashing up an ice cream parlor and lynching a guy on a motorbike is pretty sickening. looks like football hooligans to me.
