Food can be delivered as well, negating the need for local markets.
Thank you for agreeing a car isn't necessary.

Only if you are buying more than you will consume in a given time period.
Which is far easier to gauge with smaller, more frequent trips. Again; you're not demonstrating that cars are superior or more flexible.

It's not loan forgiveness, but the DoEd has extended the moratorium on student loan payments until January. I'm kinda hoping that it keeps pushing further and further out until there's just no interest in starting them back up again and the loans are just forgiven.

Note: I have no student debt, I don't benefit from this at all. I'm happy for part of my taxes to pay for this, even if it means I pay a bit more.

Yep. I've had my student loans paid off for a couple decades now, but I'm happy if the current crop of college kids can crawl out from under this particular anchor. College debt kept me in a bad job for far longer than I should have been--basically kept me from moving on with my life until I could get it under control.

I really wish they would just cancel the debt outright rather than playing these games, but it'll do for now.

Little more concerned over the eviction moratorium situation. Fun fact, did you know the federal government actually doesn't know which or how many people are renting?

Good luck getting cities in the US rebuilt into perfect uninterrupted square grids....

Throw enough money at things and very little is necessary.

If you don't understand your own eating habits in short order, you are pretty hopeless.

It takes a very tight requirement set for cars to be inferior and/or less flexible, and you are not going to see that happen large scale in the US.

And now we've entered the "neener neener what are you going to do about it" phase of the argument, which is an implicit admission you know your argument isn't a defensible one.

Anything made by human hands can be unmade by human hands, don't confuse your desire to maintain the status quo with feasibility. If it weren't a possibility you wouldn't be so vehemently trying to oppose it.

A racist system? Maybe after Nixon. Before his time it was a strictly mixed bag.
After they tossed the rules, nobody wanted to live there.

There is technical feasibility and practical feasibility. Rebuilding the US into a mass transit paradise is not practically feasible.

The only thing I would oppose is making me live in such an area. If people want to do it, they can.

Texas is a good example of what not to do.

"There are a lot of vested interests in the status quo" is not the same thing as "it is practically unfeasible".

You've never lived in one and don't know what it's like, sooo... This is just a symptom of "fire is bad, change is scary, and Thomas Edison was a witch".

"You are not going to get people to support destroying all of the major US cities and rebuilding them just to make public transport practical" is the same as practically unfeasible.

I have lived in large cities, and I have lived in apartments. I would quite literally rather be dead then stuck in either again, because that is what I would practically be anyway.

This coming from someone who wants to build and man a wall across the entirety of the southern border.

No one said anything about "destroying" cities. Urban renewal is a thing.

I have lived in large cities, and I have lived in apartments.
No, you've lived in the American analogue to those which are kept shitty by the same policies you support.

Maybe actually listen to the people who have lived in the parts of the world that aren't America where well designed urban infrastructure is a thing.

I may want it, but that doesn't mean I think it is practical.

To renew, you must first destroy.

I have talked to people that live in "urban paradise". To me it would still make for a very shitty life that would suck the very essence of my soul out.

If this is hyperbole, it's incredibly dismissive of actual mental health issues.

If it isn't, you're in a crisis state already and I hope you're seeing someone to help with that.

Very telling as to one's level of privilege that they insist they'll literally die if they can't drive a Ford F150 out of their McMansion. Lol.

Once again, one of the few upsides of climate change is that it's making this sort of bullshit massively unsustainable, to say nothing of wealth inequality.

Its not actually. You have ZERO idea of what make life enjoyable and worth living. Just because you enjoy it does not mean others do.

I am not in crisis because I do not live in urban hell.

    Statistically speaking, that's not true.

Being forced to live in a big city would require me to give up almost everything I enjoy in life, and offer me nothing in return.

How would you know if the only cities you've ever lived in are badly designed American ones? Lol.

If I had my druthers, I'd be living in a condo in the city, where I could walk to local shops. It's just way out of our price range right now (which isn't exactly low, we were looking at prices around a half a million).

It's not so bad here, since it's a little residential area attached to a small town, so the houses are mostly all unique and there's decent amounts of space, you don't get the ticky-tacky little carbon-stamped houses you see in big developments these days, which are just soul-crushing garbage for the most part.

Would I die if I lived in one of those, though? Nope. That's ridiculous, and if it's not hyperbole, it's either a cry for help or for attention.
