I agree with Clyburn. There needs to be a 9/11-like commission on Covid-19. More the purview of Congress, but I hope Biden pushes for one.
I don’t think there can be evidence that proves Trump tried to ignore the virus, due to the impact it had on Trump Corporation’s hospitality industry.

Hey, if these are the nontroversies that we have to look forward to for the next four years, I'm totally here for this.

There are better ways for conservatives to get a Female Lives Matter movement going. Not many.

This completely undermines their contention that discrimination against females is a thing of the past.

And Biden is trolling them masterfully by appointing so many minorities to positions of high importance in his administration.

This is good from a trolling standpoint. And it's about time this was done (if anything it is way overdue).

I would not call Biden's cabinet nominee rollout "masterful" by any metric.

So many people are yelling at him about so many things from so many different directions that the fact that he is moving forward on all of this at all deserves some credit right there.

I was hoping for some lefty things to happen between now and 2022. But now, the best that could happen in the best possible circumstances would be a few executive orders. That's it. Sanders as President and AOC as Speaker of the House would not be enough to change this.

If democrats go 2 for 2 in the Georgia runoffs, then a FEW things could happen. But even then there is too much anti-socialism inertia that will take a while to overcome, and the business community would only have to peel off *1* democratic Senator to block any bill from being passed. The business community is going full blast on keeping any benefits from going to non-billionaires, and at this point they seem to have enough power to win their battles.

So overall I'm pretty pleased with what Biden is doing at this point. And from a trolling standpoint, I will stand by my use of the word Masterful. And Dr Jill Biden has been AWESOME

Once again, I sincerely wish I too could be a mediocre white man so I could get credit for doing the bare fucking minimum.

Every incoming administration has a huge amount of pressure, and it is not like the Biden team hasn't had time to get its house in order regarding these appointments rather than second guessing because "Oops, All White Cabinet Picks" and then doing exactly what Republicans accuse us of by passing over competence (Michele Flournoy) in favor of a token appointment to try and control the damage.

My issue has fuck all to do with a lack of manifest progressivism and everything to do with administrative competence.

I just saw YET ANOTHER political ad for the 2 Georgia Senate runoffs.

It was basically Biden giving a speech praising Ossoff and Warnock and saying why Biden needs them in the Senate.

It is the best ad of the campaign BY FAR. Very positive, very uplifting. WOW AN AD THAT DOES NOT MAKE ME CRINGE.

I know it is not fashionable to say good things about Biden, and he IS too conservative for my tastes, but right now he is walking through a land mine where people are using MICROSCOPES to try to find stuff to complain about, and he is coming through it very well. Eight years of up close and personally experiencing unfair attacks on Obama has taught him what he needs to know to navigate these waters. And hopefully Vice President Harris is taking notes.

On the push we've seen from some folks for Biden to embrace the Unitary Executive theory and continue Trump's gross executive overreach to address issues due to legislative gridlock -

Maria Cardona, a veteran Democratic strategist close to the Biden team, said fixing the immigration system has to happen through legislative action.

"Executive orders are not the end all, be all," she said. "People point to Trump, but he was a failed president. Let's not use him as a model for how things should be done."
Because executive orders can be easily undone by the next president, they're not fixes for anything. And emulating the strategy of the guy that folks have decried for the past four years ain't exactly the best thing, either. I'm all for use use of executive EO's where they make sense, and in reversing most of Trump's awful EO's, but issues like climate change, immigration, civil rights etc. need to be tackled in Congress where they can actually address the issues in ways that can't easily be undone with the Power of the Pen.

It is, however, a perfectly acceptable precedent for purging the executive branch of any and all Trump appointees and pointing to unitary executive when Trump's judges complain about it.

I'm not on board with this. The Unitary Executive theory isn't something you can just turn on and off, you either believe in it or you don't. It would make removing all the folks Trump is planting to shit up the Biden administration much easier, but that's a path to concentrated executive power I'd rather not continue to travel down.

Desperately with Congress would nut the fuck up and rescind the JCPOA and other responsibilities they've pushed off to the Executive branch because they'd rather be able to blame the president rather than have to account for their records when it comes time for reelection.

Amusingly, even the folks at /r/conservative seem pretty annoyed with how utterly pointless this shit is and wish he'd focus on "important issues", though /r/conservative seems to have an odd definition of "important".

Maybe they're realizing that the tan suit, dijon mustard, and Chipotle sneeze guard nontroversies were really as pathetic as we've been telling them for the past decade+

They seem to be gearing up for one last temper tantrum focused on Pence before focusing their fire on Biden. Pence is responding accordingly.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/mike-penc...140043658.html

Title: Mike Pence to confirm Biden then leave the country, says report

    Excerpt:

The vice-president, who is due to confirm the Democrat’s assent to the United States presidency in a session of Congress on January 6, is believed to be planning on an overseas trip straight after those proceedings.

Three close aides told Politico that Mr Pence would leave the United States for around a week after the vote in Congress, in what appeared to be a bid to avoid Republican scrutiny.

“I suspect the timing is anything but coincidental,” one Pence ally said about the rumoured plans.

In doing so, Mr Pence would also avoid any scrutiny over his position as Donald Trump’s vice-president, as well as Republican backlash - amid allegations the election was rigged against Mr Trump, which have been without basis.

Mr Pence has remained largely silent on such matters, while still supporting Mr Trump’s complaints - and thus has avoided backlash from the president’s supporters.

According to a US government document seen by Politico, Mr Pence will travel to Bahrain, Israel and Poland, with the possibility that more stops are added, in the week between Congress’s vote and Mr Biden’s inauguration ceremony on January 20.
Pence will basically be standing up to his boss when he announces Biden/Harris as the winners of the election, and he is appropriately getting out of town until it all blows over. Apparently, "with the possibility that more stops are added" sounds an awful lot like "he is away until it is safe for him to return".

Trump supporters are basically isolating themselves from everyone else. They are destroying themselves. In the meantime, we have to clean up the HUGE mess that they left for everyone else.

Fingers crossed that this corruption leads to jail time for some of the guilty ones. And for Biden, McConnell, and others, it is time to move forward and start the process of digging ourselves out of this.

I can only imagine that having him travel abroad immediately after the vote is intentional, especially given the uh...not so friendly reaction Mitch McConnell received for daring to say, "President-elect Biden"

A lot of countries should study their actions after the pandemic, determine which decision processes did right, which did wrong

Granted some countries also have crimes to ponder but a lot should look into it so how we decide is improved a bit from panic (that includes panic over the economy causing relaxing restrictions possibly too early) to reason next time

Huh, surprisingly the Biden team said they in no way, shape, or form mutually agreed to a pause in transition cooperation.

Once more, the Trump administration is doing everything they can to ratfuck this government and the incoming administration. Would love it if there was some tool to punish these fucks.

As former Republican National Committee spokesman Doug Heye dryly observed on Twitter, this — coupled with faux outrage over a Biden aide’s profanity in a profile — only matters to a handful of people in Washington: “3600 Americans died yesterday and we’re supposed to be worried about a staffer using a bad word or someone’s doctorate?”
The nontroversies of this past week that have nearly completely consumed conservative media, despite having a 9/11's worth of Americans die nearly every single day due to the administrations lack of leadership through a pandemic, are just a taste of how pathetic and banal the nontroversies of the next 4 years will be.
